On arrival there was a lovely welcome box and even something for our dogs. Super comfy home, stocked with absolutely everything we needed including dog bowls, dog beds and a dog towel. We loved the massive TV projector and the automatic vacuum cleaner Meryl Sweep. No recycling facilities but I took our recycling to car parks where they have lots of recycling bins. Thank you for the voucher and the welcome box - these were much appreciated. Our 3 children (now young adults) loved it to. We will be back next year and have already booked a week in September. It is such an amazing place with a very special peace about it. Thank you again.

  • "The property was very peaceful and everything you need, including extra treats for us and the dogs!"

The downstairs is a great space to relax with lovely sofas and movie projector. The bedrooms are quite small with lack of air circulation, not a lover of velux windows which made the bedroom room feel claustrophobic. The cleanliness was ok on the surface but could do with regular deep cleans, lots of cobwebs and gruby skirting, lamps, lampshades, floor and shelves, especially around the radiators. The oven didn’t heat up properly, this had been noted before in maintenance book. A very relaxing place for us and our fur babies, we would definitely come back!

Thanks so much for your kind words, I'm delighted to hear you would like to return to Thorne Chapel. Thank you also for your feedback on the cleaning, which is relatively unusual because we usually receive perfect scores. Deep cleaning is always tricky mid season because the cleaners only have a few hours to carry out changeover cleans before the next guests arrive and it's a big property. But I have mentioned the dusty areas you highlight to them for their specific attention. Thank you also for mentioning the range cooker. The element was replaced following the comment you mention in the maintenance book and seemed to work fine as there have been no further comments since, but perhaps there is another issue. The cooker will be replaced as part of the winter season closure plans. Property Owner

It is extremely well equipped, it is in an idyllic location, and it is ideal for people like us who have dogs. Can we just suggest that the owners provide an iron - a small thing but important. The beds are comfortable (with a selection for the dog too), the kitchen and living areas are spacious and well equipped and everywhere very clean and well laid out. It was lovely to sit outside of a night time to look at the clear night sky. The whole area is beautiful. There is a short walk down the lane which was overflowing with blackberries and easy access (4 miles) to nearby Pembroke for shops. The many (dog friendly) beaches nearby are some of the best in the UK - clean, beautiful soft sand and dunes and not crowded at all. The cliff walks are spectacular and Bosherston Lily Ponds just a few minutes down the road was such a beautiful spot we went three times and could have gone more. Thank you.

The bangs from the army camp, whilst expected, were far louder than anticipated and sometimes took place well into the early hours, again something of a surprise. Having said that it did not detract from our enjoyment of staying in a converted Chapel. Hearing the dawn chorus was a real treat, apart from the army it was a very peaceful setting.

Thanks so much for your lovely comments, I appreciate them even more given the army were extra loud (and late) during your stay. I've asked around and I understand they were taking part in an exceptional NATO exercise that affected the whole peninsula, but has now finished. Nevertheless, I'm sorry you experienced the disruption and will be happy to arrange a discount should you decide to stay again. Property Owner

Fortunately they left on the Monday

Hello Sarah, thank you for your kind words about the chapel and its location. I’m sorry to hear you were disturbed by noise from the cottage next door. We would have been able to contact the owners over the weekend to raise it with them if you had spoken to Sykes at the time, but I appreciate that you shouldn’t need to. This is the first time it has ever been a problem, so it was entirely unanticipated. I have now talked to the owners, who are lovely people and had lent the cottage to relatives for the weekend. They explained their relatives were staying for a birthday event and, in response to your feedback, that they will ensure it won't happen again. Thank you for letting us know. Property Owner

We were so lucky with the weather. Everything you could possibly need in the chapel. Even did some baking. Lots of movement on the tank base and firing. This did not bother our dogs. Schedules can be googled and the spectators towers can be accessed. 5 minutes away by car. The path by the Chapel takes you alongside one of fields where you can see the tanks sometimes. Lots of walks. Can recommend the Walked Gardens. Spent a good 1.5 hours wandering around. Dogs on leads within the garden off lead outside towards outer walls. Lovely walk from Stackpole carpark to Barafundle. Dogs loved the swimming at Stackpole Quay. So much to do, so many different walks. Stayed 2 weeks and didn't want to go home. This place is a real gem that accepts our 3 dogs. A real home from home. We love it.

Hi Susan, thanks so much for your lovely feedback, it's much appreciated. I do take your point about the food waste and I understand your concern. Unfortunately the collection of food waste isn't a service offered by the otherwise excellent cleaners and I'm too far away to handle this myself. Beautiful Chapel, comfortable sleeping and living. Everything you could possibly need. The projector with surround sound makes movie nights the best. The welcome basket was perfect after a 3 hour drive on our arrival day. This was our 4th or 5th stay needless to say we will return. It is close to the tank base where you can be a spectator for some of their manoeuvres, just look up their schedules. You can see and hear them if you walk down the path by the Chapel. Stand on the bank and be nosy. We picked heaps of sloe berries this time, gin I think will be added to those, and an abundance of blackberries. Great location for Freshwater West and East. Picked up lovely drift wood at West where you will find Cafe Mor!! Lovely walks in the Stackpole Estate forest. Lots of chestnuts at this time of year. We chose it because of its location near to dog friendly beaches of Freshwater West and East, Manorbier and walks around Bosherston, Stackpole and St Govan. As it is close to Castle Martin army base, you need to check when firing is happening as St Govan walk is restricted during those times. Seems as if firing stops at weekends, but goes on in weekdays. You can't actually hearing any firing. The beaches were out of this world and the dogs loved them. We took a trip into nearby Pembroke town which was beautiful with a huge castle in the centre, by the river. Thorne Chapel is a beautiful old chapel and retains original features, including front door and lecturn. I can't over state what a building building it is and the conversion is superb. It was a really peaceful place to stay. The owners provided everything you need and more, with excellent small thoughtful touches for humans and dogs! The cinema and surround system was a bit complicated at first and I think previous occupants had messed up the system. I was able to contact Sykes who let the owner know. He rang me immediately and we spent about an hour on the phone talking through the system, so that it worked. This resolved the problem and was able to enjoy the media system. If you want to make mobile phone calls or texts, you will need to walk out/ drive out to find a signal. Wifi was perfectly adequate, so we tended to use Whatsapp for texts and calls. All in all, a highly recommend place to stay and we will definitely be returning.
