  • "I feel in love with the cottage and gardens immediately - this is without doubt the most unique and characterful property in a wonderful location."

We had the sort of week you hope will never come to an end - we hope to return soon and often - Thank you

  • "The house, garden and location were perfect for a stay with 2 dogs."

The house was excellent with all the facilities required for a comfortable stay and the main sitting area having ample space for 2 adults and 2 large dogs to cohabitate. The garden was ideal for the dogs to have plenty of space to run around and investigate, with the river sufficiently inaccessible to cause any concerns. There is a nice circular walk from the house in the surrounding woods and fields and Newport nearby, is a lovely village/harbour to visit. Would certainly recommend it to friends and hope to come back one day soon.

Thank you so much for the review. Again, it’s heartening for us to see that others love it as much as we do. We welcome you (and your dogs) back anytime. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely property in a fantastic setting, with lots of walking, stunning scenery and history in the area."

The cottage was perfect for our party of five adults, with comfy beds, great social space, and plenty of table and cookware. Everything was clean and fresh. We appreciated the multiple towels, and thoughtful extras like a welcome pack of milk and Welsh cakes. We had breakfast and lunch in the bright family area and enjoyed board games and DVDs in the evening in the sitting room. Bathrooms were great with plenty of hot water. The garden is very well done and we loved being so close the river.

Thank you for the positive feedback. It has been heartening to know that we scored 5 stars in all categories. We’re so pleased you enjoyed your family stay, and would hope you would choose to visit again one day in the future (and you’re very welcome re welcome pack). Property Owner

  • "This cottage is in two halves."

The newer extension is lovely, large living room, comfortable bedroom, functional shower room. BUT the rest of the cottage is substandard for the money we were charged. The dated kitchen has a dirty, broken sink, the cooker is missing hob dial markings, the window sill grouting is grubby and there is no washing machine. Despite the owner saying there is no space to install one, there are plenty of empty cupboards where one could go. We had to drive to Newport and pay £20 for a laundrette service wash, then go back to collect. In 15 years of booking holiday rental cottages, we have never had one without a washing machine. The rest of the cottage smelt so strongly of damp and mildew my daughter and I got sore throats from it. She had to sleep in the twin room, but none of us could have slept in the older double room. The mould smell was so strong. The older style living room was dimly lit, too dark to sit in at night, smelt of damp and had huge dirty cobwebs all over the place. The stone fireplace was covered in thick cobwebs and home to spiders. It just didn't feel comfortable to spend any time in the room, so we didn't. The main bathroom had a broken skirting board hanging off the wall behind the toilet and cobwebs behind it. There was presumably an oil fired boiler in the locked cupboard in the bathroom as the whole room stank of fuel or oil. I had hoped to have a relaxing bath on holiday, but honestly couldn't have spent more than a few minutes in the room. We kept this door shut too. So for nearly £2,000 my family spent the week in three rooms which I don't feel is good value. The location was lovely and we enjoyed the river bank setting. The facilities offered for outside were on par with what we paid for, but sadly the inside was a real let down and disappointment. The house just isn't clean enough in places and the evident damp problem could be a health hazard for someone with asthma.

Thank you for the feedback although we are totally shocked at your comments. We do not advertise a washing machine, this is evident on booking. The damp is a new comment, we have not been informed of that until now. We stay in there regularly and have not noticed any damp? We will go there and stay and assess. We are changing the cooker and putting in roof lights in the old lounge, but all these changes need time. There is a slight smell from the cupboard in the bathroom, but not enough to stop you having a bath. Again, we will investigate. Property Owner

  • "House is phenomenal on first appearance and does have everything required in terms of facilities, it’s very picturesque and the garden is lovely and well maintained."

It could do with a few improvements, the important parts were clean but lots of cobwebs and mould in the older parts of the house which I am not sure you expect when paying nearly £2k for a week stay. Also some of the windows were difficult to open, remote control difficult to use and had clearly been chewed by a dog. One of the bi-folding doors has issues when closing also. Had to have a handy man out twice due to issues with the toilet that apparently had happened before (although this was rectified very quickly after speaking to Sykes so no complaints with that). We were travelling with a baby so a lack of high chair, travel cot and washing machine wasn’t ideal, albeit my fault for not checking before booking. Overall we had a pleasant stay and would go back. It’s an ideal location for exploring South Wales and had lots of things close by. The house itself just needs a few tweaks, although this may sound petty they were things that impacted on our stay and could be easily rectified.

Thank you for the feedback. The windows in the old part of the cottage are being changed this winter, we appreciate they can be difficult to open at times. The bifolds are brand new so we are very concerned that you have had a problem with them. The toilet hasn’t blocked for many years, and has never been a problem since renting. We are quite shocked that the toilet blocked twice, especially after it was cleared and flowing well. We will discuss with the maintenance man as to the possible cause. We were also unaware of the remote control being damaged by a dog. We apologise for that. It was in perfect condition a few weeks ago. We will change it now we are aware of the problem. Thank you. • "We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful cottage and would definitely recommend it."

It does need some very big cobwebs cleaning away in the lounge areas. The cottage has everything that you need and the area is a beautiful part of the country with long beaches. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Thank you for the feedback. I’m thinking the cobwebs must be high in the ceiling in the rafters? Hopefully everywhere else was clean and cobweb free. We will do our best to reach them and give the lounge a thorough clean. I’m pleased to hear that everything else was 100%. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful property - we reviewed in the visitor’s book My only criticism is with an aspect of the booking process."

I sent a list of items to you to ask if they were provided and you unhelpful replied we should assume none were provided. Surely you can confirm if items as basic as a hairdryer are available

Thank you for the feedback. I wasn’t aware of any questions, I certainly would have answered your queries if I had known. So glad you enjoyed the cottage. I do hope you will return one day. Thank you for the feedback. Property Owner
