  • "Thank you so much for letting us stay in your property."

We have had a fantastic holiday. The cottage is in a great location, near to our points of interest; Nevern and Fishguard. It is a 15 minute walk to the beach and has a few local shops and pubs (but most don't serve alcohol until 4pm). The facilities were good, plenty of pans, cups, cutlery, dishwasher, washing machine, freezer, etc. But the fridge didn't seem cold enough, even when turned up all the way. So unfortunately our meat turned bad and needed to be thrown in the bin. Also the scissors were broken and the knifes were blunt, which was abit of an inconvenience when cooking. Thank you for the welcome back. The local walks, recipes and Welsh language was a nice touch. It was great to have a contact book of health care facilities, vets, etc for if we needed them. The only negative really is that the Internet is really slow. Most of the time we struggled to use it. Because of this, the property could really do with a smart TV with access to more TV channels or a Netflix account. As we were quite bored in the evenings and wanted to relax in the property.

  • "I have to confess that on reading the previous bad review the week before we arrived, I was very concerned."

However, Y Bwthyn was very clean and comfortable. We have stayed here many times and absolutely love it. We were blessed with good weather and made use of the lovely garden. With reference to the smell mentioned in the previous review, there was an unusual aroma at first but seemed to disappear as the week went on. I would agree that the Internet is pretty dire and we were without it for most of the week. We are already planning next year's holiday at Y Bwthyn as we love staying there!

  • "Were to begin?"

As reported back in June 2023, the kitchen cupboard under the sink absolutely stank and the smell permeated through the house unless you kept the lounge door closed all the time. We had to leave both outside door in the kitchen area open to actually go into the kitchen to do anything. There were cobwebs on top of the kitchen units (which we removed), but the actual unit tops are filthy dirty with grease and grim. The oven is filthy and can not be used in that condition. The shower was black with mould all along the door bottom runners and in the corners and again had to be cleaned thoroughly before use. To the main bedroom, there is bedding stored in the clothes hanging area. Whether this was clean or dirty is anybodies guess. As for the cleaning equipment stored in the utility/cloakroom, well the vacuum cleaner looked like it had never been empted, so not really useable. The garden table and chairs are so rusty you would stain your clothing if you sat down and used them, so were useless. The internet was practically useless as connection was intermittent and for the most part not connected. We took our first day and and a half giving the house a clean, but still could not get rid of the smell/stench in the kitchen cupboard under the sink Its a shame as the house could be very nice if it was thoroughly cleaned and maintained. It was in a nice area with shops and eating places nearby.

Literally a stones throw from the Main Street of Newport with its many pubs/restaurants and shops. It was clean, warm and tidy. Plenty of utensils and pots and pans. The driveway is steep and you need to reverse in to it which can be a little precarious as it’s on an almost blind bend, but a perfect little getaway. Ideal for the two of us and the dog. The 2nd bedroom is a twin more suited to children I would say but that didn’t affect us. we would definitely stay here again

  • "An ideal location from which to explore the local area, with plenty of lovely walks without having to use the car first."

The cottage is well equipped and comfortable, with four pubs within a short walk, three of which offer good food. Shops nearby provide everything you need and more, including an amazing place selling all kinds of railway relics as well as loads of other old things. Be sure to visit Havards (old school hardware and much more) and the deli on the other side of the road. Parking is a bit tricky because you have to back into quite a steep (and short…) drive. Overall, we had a great stay in Newport.

Pubs, shops all dog friendly and in walking distance, enjoyed so much booked again for next year. The only downside was no instructions when the rubbish would be collected, but the amount of information on Newport and surrounding area was so informative. Would highly recommend

Under sink kitchen cupboard smelt of damp. Bathroom tap stiff so either full on or off. Bathroom sink extremely slow to drain away with leak in u bend which owner obviously knows about as replacement pipe on shelf in sink cupboard. Also dirty scourer left and oven mats burnt and dirty. I reported this on the fist day to be told the owner would be advised but heard nothing back. Building work next door started at 08.45 until 16.30 loud at times. Builders only asked me on last day when we would be out so they could use the drill would have been better if they had spoken to me earlier in the week. It is comfortable, warm and convenient place with parking (difficult in Newport). It is opposite the best (dog friendly) restaurant in the area and close to everything else that Newport has to offer. It has a great garden which is very safe for a small dog, the kitchen is very well equipped and the owners are very generous with things like dishwasher tablets and toilet rolls - which most aren't! I would recommend it highly and we will definitely be visiting again for our annual Newport fix. However there is one very annoying ongoing problem: the oven is completely unuseable because everytime you open the door it sets off the fire alarm. The only time we managed to get a pizza out without setting it off we had both the front and back doors open and my husband flapped a towel around to deflect the heat, This does not make for a peaceful dinner time!! Otherwise it is wonderful.

This is the third time we have stayed there. The property is in a very convenient location, is very comfortable and the lovely garden is a real bonus. After our visit in July I commented on the doggy smells but this time the property smelled really fresh and we felt the cleaners had really upped their game. No doggy smells at all!! We have had a lovely week and are already planning to rebook for next year. My only observations this time is that the floor in the main bedroom feels a bit unsafe in places and there was some late night noise on the weekend from the hotel close by. But we love Y Bwthyn and we will definitely return next year, all being well.

Under the sofa there was balls of animal fur, and as the property charges for ‘pets’ extra cleaning, this was disappointing. All downstairs windows are dirty inside and especially outside, the property lacks some love. As previous reviews have mentioned the living room needs an extra chair if 4 people stay, as there are only 3 comfortable seats. Would not stay at this property again.

Location great with pubs, shops etc all within easy walking distance. The property is situated on a junction of the busy main road so inevitably there is road noise, also be mindful of some late night noise from the pubs close by. Newport is a great base for exploring the fabulous Pembrokeshire coastline and we are looking forward to visiting the area again. We would seriously consider this property again.

The wifi and smart tv were a bonus- don’t forget to sign out of your accounts on the tv apps though!! On the downside it’s a really noisy location from traffic and from the pubs across the road. Wouldn’t stay here in high season again. Bring a fan and ear plugs because you won’t want the windows open at night. Our minor niggles are the same as the other reviews; ridiculously placed smoke alarm that goes off as soon as the oven is on; doggy smells and could be cleaner and fresher. But tbf it’s a dog friendly place and peak season so am sure these will all be sorted in low season.

Disappointingly the inside and back yard were full of dog hair. The floors were furry. I had to hoover and mop throughout as it did not look like it had been done. Other rooms such as the bathroom were really clean. The garden was in a mess, the grass not cut for weeks and once again the slabbed yard area was filthy, with dog hair blowing around in clumps and some litter. I know the property is dog friendly but this was really disappointing.

This property is perfect for us being so close to everything in Newport. We've had fantastic weather so have a lovely spent a lot of time in the lovely enclosed garden. The only observations I can have to make is that it smells a bit doggy and the brush to sweep the floor was clogged with dog hair. I would also request a new toilet brush as the one there leaves a lot to be desired!! These are small issues and we are very much looking forward to returning in October.

Thank you so much for your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at our lovely cottage and enjoyed being so close to everything in the village. Garden well enclosed and a great spot to sit out on a sunny day. Very well equipped, maintained and clean. The only slight negatives were that it is on a very busy junction, especially at silaging time and the sofa was a bit low and soft for a couple of older holiday makers.

Thank you for your feedback. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. I agree it can get a little busy during hay-making season, one of the drawback of living in rural Wales but the fresh sea air more than makes up for it. Hope you visit west Wales again. Bes regards, Huw and Carol Property Owner

It's well positioned for easy access Newports shops and pubs, and is warm, modern and well geared for x4 people and a pet. The secure garden was excellent, allows you to let the dog out with confidence he won't escape onto the road. Parking is a big plus. Only points to raise were the kitchen utensils/pots/pans needed a decent clean before use and the lounge could benefit from an additional armchair. There is only seating for x3 people. • "We’ve just spent a long weekend at Y Bwthyn with our dog."

Perfect location and lovely accommodation- we enjoyed our stay, thank you. We must have picked the weekend with the worst weather and we were soaked on every walk. The washing machine was a godsend and coming back to a lovely warm house and powerful hot shower was brilliant. Our one negative and the reason not top marks for comfort was the sofa and chair in the living room. There is lots of space for a large squashy sofa so seems such a shame just to have a small 2 seater and an uncomfortable arm chair. Summer time, we would be out more so might not be such an issue but after a long, wet day and wanting to chill in the evening, we just couldn’t get comfortable. I see this has been mentioned before and it would make a huge difference. That alone would stop us returning. Big positive for us was the enclosed garden where the dog could safely go out when needed. Additionally, with the proximity to pubs, restaurants and beach, we had great stay overall.

  • "This the third time we have rented this cottage so obviously we think it is great."

People moan it is on a busy corner but we think the fact that is virtually next door to all the places you want to eat/drink/visit make this minor inconvenience worth it. It's warm, well equipped and everything works. My only gripe is the fire alarm works a bit too well and if you open the oven door or even just have the grill on without opening the back door it sets it off. Believe me, you wouldn't sleep through it so at least we are safe!

Thank you so much for your feedback. We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us yet again. We are in the process of making arrangements to move the fire alarm heat sensor to another part of the kitchen. It did seem rather a strange place to position it. • "Great location for village and pubs although as mentioned before, on a very busy junction."

This was Sept so should imagine at the height of season, parking would be very difficult for the less confident, as have to reverse onto drive. House is compact but everything we needed in modern kitchen, lounge, double and single bedroom. Single sleeps two children as one bed is a trundle, but that is stated clearly on description. As previously stated, seating only for three in lounge, ok for us as a couple but for a family of four would be difficult. Generally clean but quite a few cobwebs. Probably the first property we have stayed in (and there have been a few) where there has been no welcoming pack, not even a bottle of milk and very sparse on soap, washing up liquid etc even in current times. Beautiful beach is a two mile drive away, passing the estuary on the way. Parking not a problem, stunning views and very dog friendly. Two or three good pubs a few minutes walk away. Definitely recommend The Castle for its food and friendly staff. Overall a very nice stay and would recommend this place for its location alone

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed our village and its surrounding beaches. I agree that the parking can be a bit awkward but we are so lucky to actually have a private parking space as they are very scarce in the village. A new additional two seater sofa has been ordered for the lounge. Thank you again for your comments and we do hope you visit this lovely part of the country again soon. The location was great for access to beach, which is why we booked this cottage. Unfortunately the hotel opposite had loud music etc 3 nights over each weekend. We were not aware of this and it was disruptive. The master bedroom and shower room were excellent . The second bedroom could just about fit our 13 year old twins. Tiny wardrobe with shelf missing didn't help with storing their clothes. Comfortable seating for 3 people, not four. Another armchair would have made all the difference. Sealing on dishwasher was broken , hoover held together with masking tape, toilet brushes filthy and need replacing. Cobwebs visible. Overall the accommodation lacks any kind of character and was not good value for money, but over priced.
