  • "Stayed early September."

The property was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The grounds were immaculate. A lovely enclosed garden for ourselves and the dog. The owners were lovely, close at hand to deal with any issues we had and very quick to put things right. We arrived late in the dark and the outside lights had attracted a fair few hornets who got into the house. They came immediately to get rid of them, even though they had been asleep when we messaged them! Would highly recommended, despite everything the Welsh weather threw at us whilst we were there … and we got thrown a lot, rain, wind. Only thing we didn’t get was snow!

Hi Julie, thanks you for your five star review - it really is much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your week here, despite the wet weather you had! It really is luck of the draw I'm afraid. This weeks guests have 6 days of bright blue skies; I only wish we could promise that for all our visitors. Still, a little rain keeps the fields green and the rivers flowing. Our neighbouring farmer found the hornets nest two fields away, in an old Ash tree, so we gave it a good dose of powder this afternoon, which should sort them out!! Having lived here for 50 years, he says it's the first nest he's seen - and hopefully the last! The two that I sucked up with the hoover are now buried, care of the council tip! Thanks again for staying in our cottage, and please do drop in for a cuppa if you're in this part of the country again. All the best, Digby & Penny Property Owner

Everything we needed in the cottage, a great enclosed garden for the dogs to play in and then the wonderful enclosed fields for them to walk and play in too. Penny and Digby are superb hosts and a great source of local places to visit as well as providing us with lovely home grown tomatoes and homemade shortbread. We will definitely be returning to this rural idyll.

The cottage as like last year was so clean and tidy with everything you need inside. Our 2 dogs Dave and Larry just loved the field we spent hours in that field. It is just so peaceful and quiet where you can slow down and relax. Penny and Digby are great and on hand if you need anything. If any of you can remember the Smurfs, look out for them they just seem to pop up around the grounds. We look forward to going back next year. Tony , Helen , Charlotte ,

Fantastic holiday cottage, very clean and comfortable and a very nice little welcome pack. Has everything you need, felt like being at home. Very peaceful and quiet. Great area of 2 fields for taking our dog Bronson for a quick walk before heading out for the day. The owners Penny and Digby are a really lovely couple, gave us lots of information on where to go. Nothing was too much trouble for them, even being able to supply a bottle of wine on our last night (which I had forgotten to pick up). We would highly recommend this beautiful this cottage.

The property is very well equipped and immaculate. There are even books and games for those not so nice days. The whole site is very well cared for by the owners, Penny and Digby. Who are a lovely couple who do everything they can to make your stay as special as they can. When you arrive there is a lovely welcome pack with even treats for your dog. Plenty of information leaflets and if you want to know more about the area they will help with more local knowledge. This is by far one of the best cottages you could wish to stay in. If you have a dog the enclosed field is a definite added bonus. We had the worse weather of the summer but the cottage was so lovely with a log burning fire we could still enjoy our stay. Will definitely be back.

A cottage but with modern facilities. Lovely comfortable beds, the garden so peaceful and pretty with an abundance of birds visiting the feeder, so nice to sit in the morning sun with just birdsong to listen to. The field just across the drive is great to let the dog off for a good old mooch around, the views of the hills lovely from here. Penny and Digby are a very nice friendly couple, available but not intrusive. We ate out in Lampeter, a town a 10 minute drive away, would highly recommend ‘The Black Lion’ a very nice reasonably priced pub with parking at the back. The Elan Valley a great place for walks or you can drive up to see the dams, very impressive! Just head to the visitor centre, info available there. We had a wonderful holiday in a wonderful cottage, would definitely recommend.

  • "Very soon after booking the cottage, I had contact from Digby and Penny, the hosts, with valuable information and directions to assist in finding them."

They met us on arrival and proceeded to offer helpful local information - a very friendly couple. On entering the cottage, we were very impressed with the thoughtful welcome pack, and being Easter it was themed accordingly. Ty Barcud was a spotlessly clean, cosy, atmospheric cottage, with a lovely log burner, already laid for us to use on our first night, the radiators were very efficient too. The kitchen was very well equipped with a cooker, microwave, fridge and full size freezer, not to mention all of the utencils, baking equipment and crockery including serving dishes. The beds were lovely and comfy and we all slept well. The bed linen, towels and soft furnishings around the cottage were all good quality. The wifi signal was good, despite the remote location and using the internet was easy. There were reading books and games to use, as well as bincolulars, everything had been thought about. Simply, it was 'home from home'. The cottage has its own safely enclosed dog friendly garden - sitting on the patio was a delight to watch and listen to the many bird species on the feeders, in a tranquil setting, so relaxing. The property grounds are extensive and guests are welcome to walk around at leisure, enjoying the countryside views, besides being able to use a safely enclosed area, with a picnic bench which can be found on a high point in one of the properties fields, a peaceful place to enjoy the views. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the roads are not busy, making travelling to the local towns easy. This entire experience definitely exceeded our expectations, there was nothing that we could fault, or that could have been done better. We will return without hesitation.

The private garden is enclosed and bird feeders were well stocked. The welcome basket was a nice touch, including dog biscuits. We found Ty Barcud to be spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable and cosy. The log burner was a delight! The cottage is in a peaceful, tranquil location, surrounded by beautiful views, the only sounds being birdsong and sheep! There is plenty of local dog walking, including the owners' fields and a wood nearby. Further afield there are Forestry Commission walks and plenty of beaches within a 30-60 minutes drive. What a gem!

The property

Ty Barcud is one of two charming, adjoining, adults only (18+) cottages ideally positioned at the foothills of the rolling Cambrian Mountains and within easy reach of the unspoilt West Wales coast.

Part of a former small farm dating back to the 1600s, Ty Barcud, a converted barn, sits in a tranquil location above the village of Llanfair Clydogau, with far-reaching views down the Teifi Valley to the Cambrians.

The location is ideally suited to those seeking a peaceful, rural location away from the bustle of everyday life, whilst being within easy reach of the coast and many other local attractions.

The cottage has its own south facing garden, enclosed with fences, and hedging for privacy, surrounding the cottage are extensive landscaped grounds, comprising lawns, formal planting and areas set aside for nature to run wild, you'll find some truly wonderful spots to read a book, throw down a picnic rug, or just relax and unwind.

The estate is a haven for a huge amount of wildlife, from hedgehogs to hares, we have wrens nesting in the drystone walls and kites circling overhead, at night the owl's hoot is a comforting reminder that you are somewhere special.

There are two fields which guests and their dogs are welcome to use, the three-acre upper field is enclosed with stock fencing, which provides a relatively secure area for obedient dogs to be exercised off lead, this field is kept with short mown grass for this purpose, escape artists and less obedient dogs are welcome, but on lead please.

Within the upper field is a fenced area with picnic bench, positioned to make the most of the fantastic views from the property, here guests can enjoy alfresco drinks or dining whilst keeping their dogs close by.

During the summer months, guests are also welcome to use the lower field which is left for grass and wild flowers to grow, a meandering footpath is mown around the perimeter of the lower field, which may be used for on-lead walks.

In all, there are just under 8 acres of grounds for guests to enjoy.

The nearby villages of Llanddewi Brefi, Tregaron, and the market town of Lampeter have some great eateries and independent shops for you to discover, for days out to the coast, destinations such as Aberaeron and New Quay are within easy reach, or you may choose to walk a section of the breath-taking coastal path, and find a quiet cove to yourselves.

In the cottage you'll find a good selection of leaflets covering local attractions, with the coast on one side and mountains on the other, there is always a great day out to be enjoyed.

From busy days out, to pure relaxation, this is the perfect cottage for your holiday all-year round.

Blaencyswch Holiday Cottages are in a dark skies area - the absence of night-time light pollution makes for some of the best star gazing around, on a clear night the skyscape is truly awe-inspiring, all of this awaits at Ty Burcud!
