  • "We had a great week at Oak tree cottage."

A good base. Everything you need for a self catering holiday. Only downside for us, we generally like to park the car up and walk to as much as we can , but not possible from the cottage, as no footpath on a large section of the road into Aberporth, and a very steep walk back.

  • "First time booking through Sykes Cottages and wouldn’t use again based on Oak Tree Cottage."

Prefer accommodation where owner lives on site and not remotely as Oak Tree Cottage owner does. Our experience is on site owners look after their properties to a much higher standard. Owner fully aware of issues we had.

  • "The cleanliness was not good had to bleach the sink on arrival it was stained brown (probably from tea) it smelt musty, the TV stand was thick with dust so was the cooker hood, stains on the kitchen doors and the toilet itself was clean but the shelf around the back of the toilet wasn't."

There was dust generally and cobwebs. These issues were reported to the owner who apologised profusely and was contacting the cleaning company to raise the issues. The cottage itself was in a great location for Aberporth and very quiet it had everything you could possibly need and the beds were very comfortable, we all slept very well.

  • "I arrived on a Saturday evening and the first thing I noticed upon arrival was a musty damp smell."

Checked the feedback book and it appeared the property had been empty the week before so switched the heating on and hoped for the best. The best did not come. There was black mould on the walls of the lounge and dining area. The smell of damp lingered. Then I found cutlery with food on in the drawer. The property hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed properly and the dining room table sticky. In the bedroom on Sunday morning I discovered the pattern of the brickwork visible in damp and more black mould behind the headboard and on the inside of the front wall of the property. I left early and reported the issues to Sykes. Sykes have been very non committal in their remarks about the photographs I provided showing the damp and mould. The owner has offered a 10% discount which has been refused and I have suggested that he uses the money to help put this property back into a fit condition.

I am obviously very disappointed, concerned and surprised to receive this feedback. The guest directly messaged me twice during his stay and did not raise any issues at all on either occasion. There were in fact guests in the property the week before who thoroughly enjoyed their stay which was their third of the season. The cottage has been fully booked from Easter onwards and has received very positive reviews. In response to the issues raised, the cleaning company state that the cottage was cleaned appropriately prior to the guest’s arrival. The guest found a single knife with a speck of food on it in the draw. I am addressing the points made about damp with my builder and will certainly ensure that any potential recommendations are actioned as soon as possible. Property Owner

  • "We found the cottage beautiful , all cooking facilities were catered for it was easy to cook some meals there for a cosy night in ,one little niggle ."

.you could do with a pair of kitchen scissors !! We did found the bed a little soft but we like a firm mattress so maybe it was just us ! and also I found it strange not to supply a hair dryer ! Other than that we would certainly return if we return to that part of Wales ,the surrounding areas' are beautiful.

We found the cottage fully kitted out with all that we needed. The cottage was very clean , tidy and well presented. It helped to have book of instructions /manual and a guide of places to visit. It was nice have a patio area at the back to have our breakfast and meals. Nice and quiet at nights!

Thank you for the milk and the lovely Welsh cakes that went down a treat. There was a wide selection of DVD's if weather was bad however , weather was so good we were able to explore the beautiful beaches and surrounding villages. • "We loved the property, it was very well equipped and comfortable."

If we had any criticism it would be that an extension lead or additional socket would be handy in both the main living area and the main bedroom but these can be worked around. We also noted that the Velux windows could do with a good clean. Neither of these things affected our stay. Personally, I found the switch for the upstairs water tank a little confusing and although we expected it to be off, which it was, the positioning wasn't very clear. This was resolved for me via a YouTube video. Being only our 2nd holiday in Wales, we found Oak Tree Cottage to be a great base for the area and were able to visit a number of attractions during the week, including a dolphin watching trip, the honey farm at New Quay, the Gwili railway and the Welsh Wildlife Centre to name a few. We were also able to make use of the garden area most evenings as the sun went down. Having used both New Golden Dragon and Caffi Sgadan we would certainly recommend the latter which does great fish and chips amongst other things. Personally, I found the food from New Golden Dragon to be perfectly fine but my wife less so. Although we did not make great use of it, we did visit the general store and found that to be well stocked. We would certainly stay here again.

The property

Oak Tree Cottage is a family-friendly, end-terrace cottage resting on the outskirts of Aberporth, within easy reach of the renowned south coast of Wales.

Welcoming a family of four, the cottage features open plan living and excellent amenities for a self-catering stay with your loved ones.

Park up in the off-road parking to quickly unload your luggage and start your holiday.

Leave your shoes in the porch area and step inside a homely, open-plan living space; set the dining table for four and rustle up your favourite meals in the contemporary kitchen area, complete with an electric oven and hob, microwave, and fridge with ice box.

Let the dishwasher do all the cleaning, whilst you settle into the sofa by the gentle warmth of the electric fire and watch the Freeview TV.

A back door brings in plenty of light and leads out onto a private patio with access to a shared lawn area, so why not throw down a blanket in the sunshine and enjoy a family picnic?

As the day draws to a close, climb the stairs to find two beautifully appointed bedrooms with sloped ceilings and Velux windows for a snug space to curl under the sheets; a king-size and a twin provide ample storage space for your holiday essentials.

Get ready in the bathroom with smart, white tiling and a large bath with shower over for longer, relaxing bubble baths or speedy rinses.

When it's time to venture out, pack your beach towels and take a short journey into the centre of Aberporth for small seaside cafés, fish and chip shop and a welcoming pub serving traditional meals, alongside a range of shops to pick up the essentials.

The Wales Coast Path passes through the thriving little village and guides guests along fabulous walks to idyllic sandy beaches, such as the National Trust's Penbryn, the rocky coves of Llangrannog and the local fishing village of Tresaith.

Cardigan is a popular town home to a 12th-century castle steeped in Welsh history, with the Welsh Wildlife Centre just outside the centre, with a glasshouse café, play area and wonderful trails to escape in nature.

Head further north along the coast to visit Aberaeron, a bustling harbour town with plenty of shops, eateries and a public swimming pool, whilst the National Trust's Llanerchaeron is an 18th-century estate and traditional working farm well-worth a visit.

Set close to the coast with easy access to local amenities, Oak Tree Cottage is a family-friendly holiday home all year round.

About the location

ABERPORTH

Tresaith 1 mile; Penbryn 3 miles; Llangrannog 5.5 miles; Cardigan 7 miles; Poppit Sands 8.5 miles; New Quay 15 miles.

Aberporth is a small town that sits on the southern edge of Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion, renowned for it's fabulous beaches that attract visitors, all year round. There are two beaches that sit between the rocky headlands of Trecregyn and Fathgarreg, separated by a smaller rocky outcrop. Uniquely, at low tide they interlink, but at high tide, they create individual beaches and create great rock pools for the children to play in and explore. Small boats, canoes, and kayaks can easily be launched from the north beach, while the south beach lends itself beautifully for a spot of sunbathing. Close to the beaches, there is a small seaside café, fish and chip shop, and a friendly pub serving good food and drinks. In the village itself, there is a range of shops and takeaway stores. Nestled directly on the famous Wales Coast Path, between the towns of Cardigan in the south, and Llangrannog and New Quay to the north, it is a great base for exploring this glorious stretch of coastline. Venture to Cardigan and discover the town’s many shops, tea rooms, restaurants, pubs, and bustling markets. Visit the nearby themed farm park, spot dolphins from the coastal path, or take a boat trip for the chance to see them up close! Aberporth is a great base for exploring this wonderful part of West Wales, with something to do for all the family.
