  • "Lovely property in a very quiet and peaceful location."

Sleeps 6 easily and has everything you need for a week away exploring the wonderful Pembrokeshire beaches and walking trails. Arrived to find the cottage clean and ready for us, as well as a home made Bara Brith! Nesta lives on the house next door and came to check everything was ok, explained where everything was and recommended a few places to visit and where to eat. Thoroughly enjoyable holiday, excellent facilities and value for money.

Nesta, the owner, is a lovely lady and greeted us with delicious Welsh Cakes. As it’s a farm location, it’s lovely and peaceful and just what’s is needed for a relaxing break. The cottage is comfortable and has everything you need. It’s in a great location for exploring Pembrokeshire, and Haverfordwest is just down the road if you want the amenities a town can provide.

The landlady, Nesta, was very nice and had made some cake for our arrival. The cottage itself was immaculate throughout and very comfortable. There was pretty much every appliance you might want. The bedrooms were a good size with wash basins, there was a bathroom with a bath upstairs and one with a shower downstairs. There are a couple of low beams/doorways that you need to look out for, but that is just the nature of the building. We loved it and would definitely stay again if we returned to Pembrokeshire

  • "Very pleasant stay and Barn Cottage is centrally positioned for touring north, west and south Pembrokeshire."

The host is a very friendly and amenable lady, and left us a welcoming Swiss roll. After a chat with her about the cattle on the farm, she allowed us to take our toddler to meet the calves in the barns at the rear of the cottage. The cost of our week's stay had been pitched at a very competitive and welcome price. We experienced a couple of minor maintenance issues to bring to the attention of the host, which didn't really affect us at all: the shower head holder in the downstairs bathroom was broken and needed replacing, and the ballcock in the downstairs toilet cistern needs looking at as there was a constant seep of water. We were lucky with the weather, and had a great stay.

  • "The twin-bedroom wardrobe was infested with moths and the wardrobe floor was covered in moth larvae."

There was a big cobweb inside on the window. A clock in the kitchen would have been appreciated and also a pair of scissors. On the positive side, the cottage was very cool in the heat and it was central for visiting a wide area. Haverfordwest itself is a nightmare! All roundabouts and nowhere to park. The owner was very friendly and supplied very nice Welsh cakes.

In an idyllic setting, very relaxing and a lovely place to stay. It was extremely cosy with the wood fire and the surroundings were stunning. There was even the extra nice touch of putting bath robes in each of the bedrooms and although we had taken our own it was a lovely extra. Nesta was a wonderful hostess. Really lovely and made us feel very welcome. We were treated to some delicious waffles on our last day which was really thoughtful. A wonderful place to stay and lots to do in the area. Will definitely be back!

  • "There is no freezer at the house despite this being listed on your website."

My mother in law had saliva gland cancer some years ago & as a result she can only eat certain soft foods. The details listed said that the house had a freezer so she brought frozen food to find no freezer on arrival. Nesta the host said that she had been "meaning to buy a new freezer but had not gotten round to it". There is an open drain in the utility room & a constant smell of sewage. The bedrooms are nice but what really lets the place down is the kitchen. Only 6 knives, 6 forks, 6 mugs for 6 people meant we were constantly washing up. There is a huge dishwasher which we did not use as due to the lack of utensils & lack of pans meant that things were needed without waiting hours for a dishwasher cycle to finish. The ventilator above the cooker is thick with grease & needs to be scrubbed clean. The fridge is not fit for purpose, it had already been taped up & my father in law closed the fridge door & it broke the shelf as he had put bottles on the bottom. It was already previously broken and we told the hosts in advance about the breakage. There is no garden furniture which meant that we had to take chairs from the dining area outside & there are lots of small touches that could make a huge difference to people having an enjoyable stay such as providing a fruit bowl for the kitchen & other simple touches.. Nesta was a nice host & she made some waffles for my husbands birthday which was a lovely surprise & she is obviously very busy with the farm. I think we would not have been so miffed if it was not for the fact that we paid over £1,250 for a cottage that was of low standard.

Thank you for your feedback. I was somewhat surprised to read your recent review as the only issue which you had raised during your stay was the lack of a freezer for which I apologised and offered use of our own personal freezer. I can confirm that a new freezer is now in place. I was not give the opportunity to rectify any of the other issues raised by you in your review as none were mentioned during your stay. I do recall asking you one evening if the cottage supply of dishwasher tablets needed to be replenished by me as I noted that you were washing up by hand. As you stated that you had no dishwasher at home and washed up by hand, I assumed that all was well. I am glad that you enjoyed the fresh fruit and fruit cake provided and hope that you also found the honey and the wine. I hope you enjoyed your stay otherwise. Property Owner

  • "Owner was lovely and friendly, the cottage itself is in a peaceful quiet location - lots of farm noise but we didn’t mind that at all."

Especially loved our daily visit from the friendly farm dog! Great location for exploring Pembrokeshire. Cottage is lovely in places but the kitchen (not pictured on the website) needs updating, would really benefit from new appliances especially the kettle! No oven gloves provided (not sure if this is a covid issue or not) bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. Quite bad patches of possible damp on the downstairs bedroom wall. Our main issue with our stay was the cleaning - due to covid we were under the impression that it was vital that each property is cleaned thoroughly before each new stay - when we arrived there were cobwebs everywhere, dead flies on most surfaces (we understand flies are just part of life on the farm but considering we arrived straight after it should have been cleaned, the amount of dead flies was alarming) and the carpets looked as though they hadn’t been hoovered. When we wiped the kitchen benches, the cloth came away dirty. We spent our first night giving the place a thorough clean to make ourselves feel a bit safer - I think it would benefit the owners and their guests if a deeper clean was undertaken especially given the current climate. Hand sanitizer was provided which was a good touch! Not bad at all for the price which was reasonable but I think a few issues need addressing.

Also, too many items kept in wardrobe space. As a farm I’m sure they have space for storage. No bins in bathroom upstairs and a number of bulbs had blown on arrival. A good spring clean is required. Very dusty. Cottage had damp downstairs and mould growth upstairs. The cottage is on a farm which was known but it backs right onto the milking parlour. The noise was not a problem - it was the flies which were in abundance and which were also finding a way into the cottage despite keeping the windows closed. Skykes should make an announced visit!!! Sweet old lady who owns the farm so we do feel bad stating these matters but it’s the truth. Pembrokeshire is a lovely area which has lovely people.

  • "We had a lovely week and the host was very welcoming."

The location of the cottage was great - very central to the whole of Pembrokeshire - no more than half hour from any of the major towns. Barn cottage was very quaint but a little tired. It could do with a bit of an update throughout. We were a party of 6 and could have done with a few more glasses, cutlery and tea towels. Also needs oven gloves and a baking tray too. However the beds were super comfy and the farm noise was surprisingly quiet given the cottage is sat just in front of the dairy. The gardens are also absolutely beautiful! Thankyou Lower Haythog Farm for your hospitality.

This was my first experience of doing a self catering cottage and it was wonderful! Nesta, the owner, was incredibly friendly and helpful and even had an AMAAAAZING cake ready for us when we arrived which she baked herself. My kids got a tour of the dairy farm and they also very kindly gave us a huge jug of fresh milk to try! Kitchen cupboard doors not closing properly. General cleanliness was not good, there were cobwebs in corners, wall light lampshades were dirty (one missing) and the kitchen needed a complete clean before using (felt greasy everywhere). The bulb in one of the bedside lamps was not working. The brochure folder was mucky and a number of the brochures were out of date. On the plus side, the bedding was good and very clean.
