The owners were next door, although I never saw them during the week. Wifi was okay (about 5MB download). There is a smart meter to remind you how much electricity you are using. Great area for walking, especially the Speyside Way, and the locals very friendly. The property is, apparently, up for sale.

Only downside was that the beds were a bit on the hard side & they creaked when either of us had to get up to use the toilet in the night so the one that was left sleeping got disturbed lol. I booked the kilt because it had a wet room and was all on one level because my daughter uses a powered wheelchair, and we accept that no two wheelchair users are the same so it is almost impossible to find properties which are perfect, the biggest problem was transferring from wheelchair into bed but as usual we adapted and managed, apart from that we were comfortable and enjoyed our holiday and we wouldn’t hesitate to use the kilt again, thank you

The cottage was lovely and mostly as described, the hosts were friendly and welcoming. The area was beautiful. The only slight criticism would be that the cottage was described as having an enclosed garden, which was one of our priorities as we have two lively dogs, but there was open access to a road on the site, so we couldn't let our dogs off their leads. But over all it was charming with modern facilities.

The cottage is in a lovely secluded location near to a beautiful caravan site but only a short walk to the Villages of Aberlour & Craigallacie and only short drive to Dufftown and countless other sights. The cottage was lovely and we found it more the comfortable for me, my partner and our two Labradors. There isn't an enclosed garden but this didn't both us too much as our dogs just sat tied to the picnic bench. Overall I can't really fault the property or the holiday and we can't wait to come back!

  • "A negative review from me."

Property NOT dog friendly, not suitable for a dog. 2 sliding patio doors in main room had to be kept shut so it is hot and airless, if open dog can go straight outside to road and caravan park. I was on edge all the time as I had to keep the dog at my side. NO enclosed garden, piles of gravel - it looks like a building site. Bedroom is tiny, 2 single beds separated by a 2’ table. The best room is the wet room. I assume the apartment to have been a 1 person granny flat & it should have been promoted as such. I stayed 1 night and then left, I couldn’t stay there because it is completely unsuitable for a dog. Maybe ok for a lapdog that is used to being carried?

An idea that may be useful would be putting a small fence with gate around the concrete patio area so customers could leave French doors open and they would know that their dog would be safe. Also the heat generated through these two sets of french doors made the sitting area too hot could not leave doors open as very windy but also very sunny. Not very dog friendly.

Aberlour proved to be a central location and we enjoyed the Moray coast, Aberdeen, the Cairngorms and everything inbetween. The small town has a good Co-op, butchers, take-away, chemist etc and we had some lovely walks along the Speyside Way. The camp site is just across the road and people walk past, but the vertical blinds give absolute privacy.

We chose not to use it as it was next to the bins but we felt as if we were on display to everyone using the campsite next door and with it being so open the dogs would have to be kept on a lead. Apart from that the cottage has everything you would need.

  • "The location was ideal and the size of the cottage was ideal but, it was dirty."

The hob top was smeared with grease and the cooker had never been cleaned. The hard floor had not been washed and the large rug covering most of the seating area was absolutely filthy, never been hoovered and stained. Dishes in the cupboard were dirty with baked on food and we had very limited amount of pans .Food from previous occupants was left in the cupboards The non stick frying pan had lost most of its coating and was not fit to use. When we arrived there was no heating on and no instructions as to how to put the radiators on we had to call someone round and even then there were no clear instructions .The shower was very poor. The bread bin had so much dust on top you could have written your name in it. The bedding was clean and we were left a pint of milk ! As someone who cleans holiday lets this was way below par, and in the light of the current pandemic this was totally unacceptable. I think we should be given some of our money back. Your advertising states that extra measures are being taken due to Covid but, this was not the case. The holiday let I clean is deep cleaned between each occupancy and then all touch points treated with antiviral spray , this place was filthy. Marie Louise Rushton

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad that you found the bedding clean. We’re sorry you were disappointed as we take great pride in our property and usually receive excellent scores and feedback as can be seen on previous reviews, including how helpful we are. We contact guests ahead of arrival and also let them have our contact number for any issues which we will always help with. We will certainly check the frying pan and replace if necessary, the oven is cleaned regularly and apologies if some small crumbs were in the metal groove, this was an oversight. The heating instructions are in the green folder at the property and my husband also attended to show you how to operate it as there are individual thermostat remote controls for the heaters. I’m sorry you didn’t let him know at the time of any other concerns at the time. Sykes also had a dedicated phone line for customers at properties and I’m sorry that neither they nor us were given chance to investigate any issues you had at the time. We have not had any negative feedback about the shower before and it has been checked and is fully operational. The condiments are left in the cupboard for guest use but we will remove them, along with the bread bin. All floors were disinfected, the rug was cleaned and hoovered pre arrival and all high density touch points such as remote controls, light switches etc are cleaned with products that can be used in a property that has a septic tank. Regrettably bleach cannot be used due to the property having a septic tank but all cleaning products used are left at the property so guests can be reassured that the property has been cleaned. • "This is a lovely place, really modern and nicely decorated."

Everything was really clean and tidy and whilst it was compact it was light and airy due to the patio doors letting in loads of light. Everything you could want for a weeks stay was provided, along with milk. tea. coffee and a lovely packet of local shortbread. The owners were not there when we arrived and I eventually got instructions to use the key out of the "lockbox", the owners it transpired were away themselves and arrived home a few days later, they made us aware of their presence but left us alone and were not intrusive whatsoever. I had read a review that said someone didn't like being "on show" and I can see why that would be as this property is at the entrance to a caravan park and there were lots of people walking past due to taking their dogs a walk from the site and there are two big patio doors on the front of the property, however, we did get over this by parking our (large) car across the front of the property which meant that we still got the light but not the people staring, I consider this was an easy option so not something that would put us off staying here again. If I had one problem it was that the beds were rather flimsy, ok for someone who is slight and under average weight but unfortunately we are not and we were concerned enough about this that we "made alternative" arrangements for sleeping in the property. That said, I would not hesitate to return to the property in the future.

  • "Your wide angle pictures give an exaggerated impression of the space inside this semi detached property, which is actually an annex to the owner's own house."

Previous feedback has described it as "compact" - we would go as far as to describe it as "cramped". It is indeed clean and has everything you need, but there is very little room to move around. How four people with all their luggage and even pets could stay here in any degree of comfort is a mystery! If you value privacy, the double sets of French doors across the whole of the front means that you have to keep the blinds and curtains permanently closed to avoid being looked at by everyone going into and out of the busy caravan park just yards away.

It will not be our last. I found the cottage online and picked up the phone to book. The whole process was handled extremely well by the young man I spoke to. The cottage itself was extremely well appointed and the owners (who live next door) had left us the makings of a wonderfull Scottish breakfast. We have always had self catering holidays and this was the best equipped cottage I think we have ever had. The owners have thought of everything. The decor was modern and attractive and I cannot think of anything that the cottage lacked. There was plenty to do in the surrounding area and the countryside was beautiful. Aberlour had a small Co op, butchers etc and for a larger shop Elgin is a short drive. I would certainly recommended The Kilt Room and Sykes And I am sure we will be booking again.
