  • "We stayed in the Easter Duthill cottage from the 12th to 16th October and absolutely loved our stay."

We were a family of 5 and found there to be plenty of space for everyone. When we arrived the first thing we noticed was how meticulously clean and well presented the cottage was. The Kitchen/Dining room was a good size and very well equipped. The beds were all very comfortable and there was lots of built in storage for clothes, particularly in the upstairs rooms. During the day we were out and about enjoying the delights of the region and the unseasonably good weather. In the late afternoon the children loved playing outside in the large garden. There were lots of toys available at the property to keep them busy. They also enjoyed getting to see all of the farm animals up close in the surrounding fields as well as the frequent morning visits of the wild deer. In the evening we enjoyed nothing better than spending time together as a family in the lounge area around the wood burning stove. We enjoy visiting the Aviemore region every few years and will definitely try to come back to stay at Easter Duthill Cottage again in future. I would like to say thank you so much to the owners for helping to make our stay so memorable.

When looking for an alternative we came across the rave reviews for Easter Duthil. Could it really be that good? It wasn't . . . . . it was better than that!! An outstanding property for the two of us with virtually nothing overlooked. It is situated on a working livestock farm and we soon got used to the bovine morning calls! The living room is warm and cosy and the two sofas are gorgeous. The kitchen has almost everything you could ask for though the fridge has just a small ice box. Perfectly adequate for keeping your ice for your G&T's and a small ready meal though. We used the huge bed on the first floor. Exceptionally comfortable and we soon got used to the restricted headroom. Would we recommend Easter Duthil? Without a doubt, and we're already looking ahead to next year.

  • "Loved our stay here, was incredibly quiet, had the most amazing views across the valley and was situated conveniently to the nearest towns, Aviemore & Grantown on Spey, both about fifteen-minute drive."

The layout was perfect and the beds extremely comfortable. The little utility room was just so cute and loved the vestibule, so convenient for hanging coats and keeping shoes. We managed to see lots of wildlife, including deer so that was a bonus. All in all a wonderful stay. However, we did have a few issues we weren't too happy about. Emma did try her best to rectify a couple of things we brought to her attention, thankfully. We arrived in terrible weather and although the drive to the actual cottage was okay the drive up from the road through the farm had lots of potholes that needed to be attended too particularly if you have a normal car as some dipped down quite extensively, but the weather did clear, and it seemed better. The cottage itself was comfortable enough although as we both have back issues; we found the sofas in the sitting room uncomfortable as they tended to sink very easily. Needed lots of TLC. The outdoor furniture supplied was okay but would have liked to have had two more recliners, only two supplied for a cottage that sleep six. Also, found the internet kept dropping when watching the TV, most annoying, and tended to do the same when using my laptop. Was hoping to do some work whilst there but tended not too due to this happening over and over. Just a couple of niggly things really. The kitchen was amazing (great layout) but would have liked to have had more dishes & a better choice of ovenware, the oven trays supplied were really of no use, needed something with more of a grip to it. Also, as the cottage sleeps six, they gave you six of everything but when there are four adults staying you soon run out of stuff ...... maybe a few more would help. The dishwasher worked overtime. Also had to go out and buy a small jug as the one provided was way too big to put in the microwave and the milk jug supplied for tea was too small. Having booked this for a two week stay it would have been nice to have had the bed linen/towels changed after one week .... yes, know there was a washer/dryer but being on holiday you don't want to have to do what you have to do at home, change beds. It's a holiday! Did wash the towels to freshen them up. Other than the few issues we found we had a great holiday, found the owners genuinely nice and helpful when asked and would stay there again should we travel once more to the Cairngorms. Fantastic location & as there was only the two of us most of the time it was perfect.

We are a family of 5 and this cottage gave us space to spread out. The beds were wonderful and the kitchen well stocked. There is a nice grassy area and a separate patio at the back of the property. The location is prime, if you are wanting to day trips around central Scotland. We even drove up to the northern shore and played in the ocean with only about an hour and a half drive back to the cottage. I am certainly telling my friends about it! The only thing I would mention is that the plumbing can be loud. It didn't bother us. I would love for the owners to make a book about the history of the cottage and the local area. I found myself wanting to know it's history.

There is lots of space and the house has everything you could need! There were lots of personal touches such as it was decorated for Christmas and the owners left a box of chocolates and biscuits for our arrival- so very thoughtful and much appreciated. The location of the house is perfect for exploring the area, it feels remote but is very close by to all amenities. The house is really lovely and warm with a great big woodburner, loads of parking and check in/out was really easy. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we could have taken our dog, this property is not pet friendly. Overall a really great experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

The bedrooms were were immaculate with lovely white bedding. Two spotless bathrooms and a massive kitchen with all amenities. There was also a washer dryer which was great as we were able to wash and dry all our clothes which saved having to do a large wash on returning home. Lovely open fire in living room which we used on several occasions. We actually had to turn off the central heating a couple of evenings as we were too warm. Lovely views outside the cottage and the area outside the cottage beautifully maintained. Cottage about 15 to 20 minutes from Aviemore and 30 to 40 mins from Inverness. Local pub served delicious food and staff very friendly. I highly recommend this cottage and will definitely be back.

We were welcomed by friendly owner Emma. She brought us an extra blanket for the toddler and a box of Duplo, which was so appreciated! Wonderfully stylish and comfortable cottage. Loved the cute wallpapers, esp. in the downstairs bedroom. Very, very clean, which was a blessing with two children and allergies. Safe garden, with gate and nowhere near any road. Only recommendation that we would make is for a slightly greater range of cooking ware. All the basics are there, really, but if you wish to release your inner Jamie Oliver you might want to bring your own mixer. :) All in all, we had a great holiday at Easter Duthil cottage! We'd love to come back one day. Location: The location is great for many different attractions in the Cairngorms, and to the West and the North. When visting with kids we recommend the Highland Folk museum in Newtonmore. For Gourmands, we recommend Rothiemurchus farm shop/butcher.

Although the cottage is on a working farm, it is set back in a secluded setting making it a relaxing and quiet base to explore the Cairngorms. Emma the owner greeted us when we arrived, which I felt gave it a personal touch and her Husband Rory always acknowledged us as we were coming and going in the car up and down the farm track. The owner had really thought about everything with the facilities available and extras like hand soaps, washing up liquid, soap powder not to mention the traditional edible scottish goodies that were a welcome treat after a long drive when we first arrived. The cottage is ideally located for accessing the A9, near to Carrbridge, Aviemore and Grantown-on-spey.
