  • "Neptune is well placed for easily accessing the sea front and the lovely town of Aldeburgh and it has the potential to be a great holiday home for large groups."

However it is showing signs of wear and tear and neglectful management. As mentioned previously by other guests the standard of housekeeping and maintenance is poor. The kitchen pots and pans were extremely worn and and not fit for use, the kettle was so scaled up that it was impossible to make a drink without scum on it, there were several chipped and cracked cups and the vacuum cleaner was so clogged up with hair and other detritus that it did not pick up. The water softening system in the garage had not been topped up with any salt. We had to buy a frying pan and de-scaler to be able to make a hot drink and cook some breakfast. Several calls were made to Sykes which eventually resulted in a delivery from Amazon of only 2 new frying pans. A housekeeper was sent to the house with 2 sachets of de-scaler for the kettle, instead of replacing it with a new one. Not what you expect for a house of this standard and cost.

Sykes messaging service is appalling takes days for a response . Only one front door key .

  • "Neptune is comfortable and well located, a quiet position very close to the beach and a short walk into Aldeburgh, a great holiday base."

In order to maintain the ‘outstanding’ listing, some things should be addressed such as tired, chipped crockery and very worn saucepans, and the outdoor seating under the arbor needs cleaning to look like the photos - it was not inviting. Fans in bathrooms/cloakroom did not work (mentioned in previous reviews) and only one front door key was tricky in a party of adults doing different things throughout a day. Cleanliness was good over all, even better if a deeper clean could be carried out more frequently to really keep on top of details not done on changeover. On our first attempt at using the hoover, it took ages to sort because the cylinder had not been emptied for a loooong time and the dust/fluff was so compacted it had to be worked out with a stick! Surely this should be done at each change over by cleaners?!

  • "A beautiful house in a great location, very comfortable and nicely furnished."

However there needs to be some TLC and maintenance done to it considering the cost. I did call for help on some issues and the response was excellent but.. It shouldn’t have been necessary to do this. Small simple things like jammed window catch and stuck blinds in bedroom. I was worried about being heavy handed and breaking them, then being charged for damage, however the nice guy from maintenance sorted it very quickly. The problem was the housekeeping. I had bought some lovely fresh and expensive ingredients to cook then serve in the large cast iron casserole… Only to find it full of mouldy pasta and meat from last guests, really disgusting and put me off what I had prepared… £90 worth of seafood wasted and roughly the same spent at the fish and chip shop. Opening the kitchen windows the seals are full of dead flies and that’s not nice to see. The sash window in the right hand corner did fall out( as mentioned in a previous review) I didn’t want to constantly call customer service as I was on a well earned holiday with my family but the issues have taken the cream off the top of a beautiful stay in Aldeburgh. Broken Toilet roll holder in main en suite Broken catch on kitchen door Small cafetière has a broken spout Filthy parasol/ slimy green outdoor table No cushions for the pergola seats at top of garden as in photos also dirty . Both wheelie bins full with kitchen waste and stinking , the recycling bin too ( due on our week) we had to take waste to a large bin in town for two days . Until emptied after an email to customer services.

Thank you. Beds very comfortable and everything was very clean and welcoming. Just a note, as I don’t know how you would get to know otherwise - the toaster - one side broken, we held down the lever. Did us know harm, but thought we would let you know. Met the new neighbour, who is very nice indeed.

We were 3 couples and the 3 large bedrooms were very comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and the garden lovely. Location was great with easy walk to beach and Aldeburgh. Aldeburgh has lots of lovely places to eat. A welcome addition would be an overhead shower in main bathroom as currently only a hand held shower but otherwise a perfect stay

  • "Neptune house had a wow factor for us."

It’s is a superb house just 2 minutes walk from the beach located in a very well designed small cup de sac. On entering the property you can see it was very well maintained and clean. It was a very comfortable house and had everything we needed especially in terms of kitchen equipment. We occupied 3 bedrooms-all of which were very comfortable and clean. The bathroom on the first floor needs a shower curtain of some sort to stop water splashing onto the floor. We all left a day early ( just for personal reasons) and one of our group ( who has early on set dementia ) left a pair of binoculars, a pair of trousers and a cake tin- and I’ve left this with someone to hopefully look into and get back to me. I haven’t heard anything as yet so I hope to hear back soon from the Sykes team. What a wonderful property-we will be telling our friends about it very soon!

The flush on middle floor en-suite was not working properly. We could not get the extractor fans to work in the bathrooms. Parking is enough for 1.5 cars in reality. All in all a lovely house.

  • "I did send an email while on holiday to Sykes and it reads as follows: I just wanted to forward a message onto the owner to advise them of an incident that occurred on Sunday where upon opening one of the kitchen Sach windows it actually fell out of the frame hitting me on the head."

Not only was this extremely painful at the time knocking me to the floor but I have since had concussion now for over 48 hours with dizziness and being sick. Fortunately one of my grandchildren was not near at the time or things could have been much worse. I didn't even realise Sach windows had clips within them allowing the window to fully come backwards but can only assume these are for cleaning external glass from the inside but in this case I assume the clips had not been replaced. Like I say fortunately it was me and not one of my grandchildren opening the window but it had absolutely ruined my holiday with me still being sick last night and too dizzy to drive. I'm hoping I will be better before leaving Friday morning. I do have pictures of the window and how it comes backward for ref.

  • "We had a wonderful few days at Neptune House- and really enjoyed the house and it’s proximity to Aldeburgh."

Just a few suggestions that would have made it an even better stay: - the hoover had very poor suction- so the daily hoovering up after the dog (as requested in the House Manual) made this a very difficult task. - the towel rail in the 1st floor en-suite bathroom was very hot- and could be dangerous for children. - no tea towels were provided- which we had expected. - no hair dryers were provided - despite saying they were in the House Manual. These issues did not detract from us having a lovely time- but you might wish to consider them for future guests.

  • "Only one key was a problem with three/four couples."

Top floor bed small and uncomfortable on one side. Top floor radiator’s do not get hot and bathroom radiator needed bleeding as only hot at the bottom. Top floor toilet is constantly running. Cisterns take to long to refill. Extractor in top floor bathroom not working. Kitchen well equipped. Lounge comfortable and cosy. Garden area safe and secure for dogs. Property easy walking distance to town.

Thank you for your feedback, and we are delighted to hear that you found the property to be well equipped, comfortable and welcoming, and that you had a lovely holiday at Neptune. We will organise for our handyman to attend the running cistern and check the radiators to ensure all are working as they should. Property Owner
