  • "Although the stairs to both levels are incredibly steep ( and it does state in the description they are!"

) the house was very well equipped with just about anything you would need . We did have a problem with the washing machine which leaked all over the floor

  • "Had a lovely family stay but must mention the very steep stairs to first floor and ‘ladder-type steps’ up to loft bedrooms."

These would not be suitable for any older/ restricted mobility/taller guests; we had to put kids in attic rooms as two of our male guests are over 6ft. Overall, though lovely house; well equipped with everything you might need, just felt more attention could be given to cobweb cleaning as they were everywhere and garden could do with a go over

  • "We had a lovely stay at The White House and would be happy to stay here again."

Yes, the stairs are steep but there's a gate at the top so little ones are safe. We loved the property generally and there is everything you need in the way of appliances, crockery and so on. I slept in The Studio where the bed was very comfortable and fitted with quality white Egyptian cotton sheets. Yes there were spiders but there's also a TV, fridge, coffee maker and kettle so you can have a morning cuppa without trekking to the house. The new garden fence means the main garden is secure but be aware that dogs can escape around either side of the house and out of the front drive. In addition to the recommended eateries in the welcome book, the Buck, next to the aviation museum, is worth a visit and not far away.

  • "The house is called the White House but it is actually pink - this might be something to mention in the description, to alleviate confusion when locating the property."

The house was very old and oozed charm. It is not a location if you have mobility issues as the stairs are vertical and the second set is more of a ladder (leading to the attic rooms). We were very happy at the location - as the oldest couple, we chose the 'studio' room in the garden, which suited us perfectly. It was a good location to use as a base and we visited lots of the local towns, which were very pretty (Bungay/Beccles particularly).

  • "We were extremely dissappointed on arrival with the property."

The general level of cleanliness such as cobwebs, spiders and flies was not a welcoming sight. The garden was poorly maintained with dog poo left from previous residents but most importantly for a dog friendly listing, the garden was open in places on to a busy road. As we had bought our dog with us, this was a real concern. Although the Kitchen was well equiped, crockery was dirty and had to be washed before it could be used. The stair case up to the rooms on the top floor was a joke. No handrails and most likely illegal due to lack of headroom, this was not pictured or described in the listing details and made access for the grandparents in our group to this floor impossible. Exposed wiring throughout the property and lack of any fire alarms was a real cause for concern especially for our group with young children and pets. We would not book this property again and feel it was very over priced for the facilities and the state of upkeep of the property.

  • "The photos need updating, as does the entire property."

Most things on the wall were falling off and the bed leg in the double room came away half way through the night. Equally the stairs at the property are not described accurately at all! The cottage is a great place just desperately needs some tlc. Sykes cottage customer service is atrocious.

Wortwell is a picturesque village situated in Norfolk but very close to the Norfolk/Suffolk boundary. It is located on both the River Waveney (which forms the county boundary) and the A143 road, some 13 miles east of Diss and 22 miles west of Lowestoft. The village of Wortwell is one of the few Norfolk villages actually listed in the Domesday Book. Today it is home to an award-winning local pub where you can enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal, and there are plenty of footpaths to wander to soak up the glorious surrounding countryside. The village is situated within easy reach of the Suffolk Heritage Coast and there are endless beautiful towns and villages just a short drive away. Nearby Harleston is a friendly town offering ancient inns, charming individual shops, good restaurants and cafes, an art gallery and local museum, and a weekly market. Bungay is a historic bustling market town where you can enjoy following the local Village Trail or pop into one of the many cafes and shops for a bit of refreshment. Other nearby places include Framlingham Castle, a Norman castle currently looked after by English Heritage and well worth a visit. Wortwell is an ideal location for touring the delights of both Norfolk and Suffolk.
