  • "Lovely property, peaceful and well equipped."

    Reviewed by Robert5.0Nov 2024

  • "Our third visit to this beautifully located house, with a well sized garden (although the upper lawn doesn’t seem to be maintained as shown in the photo anymore)."

The size and layout of the house is excellent and suits us very well when we visit with adult children and their partners. It’s a very social house, and we had a lovely time. We’ll be back again, I’m sure. Nevertheless, we were worried to see the general maintenance is slipping and that it’s been a recurrent theme in the feedback this year: the oven door popped open when in use which can’t be safe; the chain on the plug in the en-suite bathroom was broken last time we stayed and was there even less of it this time making it hard to remove; the roof of the wood burner fell into the logs although I think I managed to get it back onto its retaining tracks well enough; and the general decor as mentioned by others is in desperate need of touching up. The hallway ceiling looks a little ominous on arrival, and sets the tone - one then starts noticing other scuffs and scrapes. External paintwork is peeling and possibly rotting too. One last point whilst writing - I’m not entirely sold on the idea that both having to be out by 10am AND requesting guest to strip beds into the sacks provided creates the right impression. We generally strip beds in order to be helpful but feeling obligated to do so is - somehow - emotionally different. We did manage to do it, but felt rushed as we left which is a negative way to leave an otherwise very restful few days.

Thank you for your feedback which I take seriously. I will follow up with housekeeping the issue of the bedding on the last day. This was introduced post lockdown and was never stopped. I take your point and will see if this is something I can change. Seadrift is closing for Jan/Feb in order for us to refurbish including a paint/decorate throughout. We hope to see you again and thank you for choosing Seadrift. Property Owner

  • "On the whole the property is very good, it could definitely do with some re-decorating in places particularly the entrance hall where there's been a leak and some items of furniture are a little tired but overall would not let that detract from the stay."

Was well equipped, super clean, brilliant location with fabulous views. The listing needs to make it clear that the utility is outside of the house in the garage. Also none of the ceiling lights worked in the lounge, we did ring the housekeeper to report this but didn't hear back.On balance would definitely book again

Thank you for your feedback. The ceiling lights have a separate switch in the kitchen which you may have missed. They were in full working order upon inspection when we found out you had an issue after you left. Sorry you experienced this. We are closing in Jan/feb for a refurb. So we do hope to see you again. • "I had such high hopes for Seadrift after seeing the beautiful photos of it on the website."

Upon arrival it was clear that the photos had been taken several years before. It is a very tired house that's in need of repair and a repaint. The entrance lobby has paint peeling on the ceiling following a leak from the shower above which was a shock to see. One toilet seat was broken and another one was very loose. Only one bedroom had a decent wardrobe. Two small cupboards on the landing were the only storage space for the two bedrooms upstairs. The BBQ that I was planning to use was old, filthy and not usable. The saucepans were not compatible with the induction hob, although the owner was very quick to replace them once she became aware of the problem. Views from the garden were stunning and being so close to the beach was such a treat. As a family we've had a tough year and I wanted to spoil everyone with a holiday in a beautiful house - unfortunately I was very disappointed.

  • "Great location, beautiful view from the back of the house."

Beds very comfy, limited space to hang clothes in upstairs bedrooms. Well equipped kitchen, although the saucepans are not compatible with the induction hob, plenty of cutlery, cutlery and glasses. Outdoor area only has seating for six, so more chairs would be good. We would definitely stay at Seadrift again.

  • "We enjoyed Seadrift as it’s in an excellent position and the mistaken delivery of Sainsbury’s shopping did not spoil our visit."

However although it is stated the kitchen facilities are great we found a lack of saucepans that could be used on the induction hob an issue. There are three stored that could not be used which only left two others which were insufficient for our party. Also some pillows provided on the beds were uncomfortable and lumpy.

Excellent outside space - every meal taken outside on the decking. Plenty of good local walks. Might be a completely different experience if poor weather. House contents provied every thing we needed.

Not enough mugs for eight of us. One was already broken. Garden rather neglected.

  • "In general this was an attractive and comfortable property in a wonderful location and the view across the marshes towards Southwold were stunning."

Lots of birdwatching from the house was possible. On the negative side, we never found a light switch to the recess ceiling lights in the lounge/dining area to supplement the wall lights which was puzzling and made reading in the evenings a less comfortable experience for some. The kitchen would benefit from a chopping board. The property decor looked a little tired, esp, the shower room in the downstairs front bedroom (peeling cupboards/clattery fan). There appeared to be a lack of hairdryers though we brought one in anticipation. The online summary of house contents therefore might benefit from updating to be more detailed. The garden whilst in general afforded lovely views, was not representative of the photographs on the Sykes site of an attractively well stocked and maintained garden, and at the far end in particular no obvious structural barrier which caused slight anxiety that our retriever might find a way into the potentially damp marshy area beyond, though thankfully he showed no interest in doing so! However other dog owners might need to be aware of this. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay at Seadrift and would recommend the property to others.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We are slowly returning the garden to local species which require less toxic chemicals to maintain. There is a fence at the end of the garden so it’s secure but we wanted a soft border so it’s blends with the wonderful views. We will ensure the photos are updated to reflect the more natural and less ornamental nature of the garden now. Property Owner

Unfortunately, when stripping our bed we discovered we had been sleeping on a disgustingly filthy mattress - hence the low score for cleanliness.

I’m so sorry that you found this. Every mattress has always had protectors on which are replaced regularly. I will get this replaced immediately. Property Owner

  • "Lovely spacious property with all the facilities needed, and ideally placed for exploring."

it was a warm house with plenty of hot water. The ovens heated up quickly and everything worked! Nice touch to have the welcome biscuits and coffee pods thank you. The negatives are small... The keysafe was small and fiddly to operate, especially in the dark. The bedrooms upstairs seem lacking in furniture (maybe it accommodates camp beds etc) and would have been nice to have hanging space in the room rather than on the landing. The whole house needs some TLC, it could be an absolutely stunning place - it just feels unloved tat the moment. The paintwork is shabby in certain areas, cracks in walls and the showers need a blinking good clean - the grouting is dark in places and the doors and showerheads have quite a lot of limescale. In the downstairs bathroom the bath panel had come away and was just propped against the bath - no information given that they were aware/work in progress. That aside, we would recommend the house and location - and would keep the details for a future visit.

I’m so sorry you had some issues. These have been resolved. Thank you for the useful feedback. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful location with stunning views and short walk to pub and beach."

We were unlucky that arrived during storm Babet and every road in was flooded. So took 9 hours to do a 3 hour journey. As we arrived in pitch darkness it was hard to find the house name. Could do with a light over it for late arrivals. However the house itself is stunning downstairs. Would be gorgeous to sit outside in the summer. Very well equipped kitchen and Nespresso coffee machine and pods were very welcome after a horrendous journey. Beds, duvets and pillows absolutely outstanding. No one wanted to get up! Downstairs is beautifully decorated and furnished. The master bedroom en-suite bathroom is looking a bit tired in places and second upstairs bedroom didn’t feel so well decorated as all the others. But I imagine you have to accept a very popular rental to have some of these small issues. But overall would thoroughly recommend for a family or friends gathering. We would definitely come back.

Second stay here (first in the winter) so great to be able to sit on decking and look out across the marshes this time. Really clean, great quality bedding and towels and well equipt kitchen. Great that each room has own bathroom facilities. Downstairs bedroom and ensuite perfect for elderly mum with mobility issues. Parking for at least 3 cars which really needed in Dunwich especially at weekends. Loved it all! Thank you!

Very comfortable and well presented. Could do with a bread basket and tray(s). Please thank Jacqui the housekeeper for sorting us out on the Monday when the beds had not been separated as requested. Sleeping arrangements make a big difference when you're in your 80's! Small problem with the key safe - the cover is most awkward to fit back into place. Otherwise a great time had by all. Many thanks.

Thank you for the welcome gifts. We found the house very comfortable and sociable for our group. We loved the sofas and the log burner. It was generally very clean although some of the skirting boards and corners could do with a bit of attention (I do have high expectations for cleanliness!). The large baking trays which we needed for our Christmas dinner were well past their best but the foil kindly left for us sorted that out. Were hoping to book again for next year but sadly not available!

Disappointed in the state of the gardens . We had lovely weather but there were only six chairs on the patio and we were eight! Wooden patio was lethal, so slippery and needed cleaning Settees not comfortable and so slippery Shower in upstairs shower room excellentb

There is a regular gardener and pay a retainer to keep him so we will find out what’s happened and why it’s not up to scratch. All decks are slippery when wet but as they age it becomes difficult to maintain. Whilst it’s still usable I’m aware that it’s starting to go over so we have already started the process to replace it with a composite decking that can be regularly jet-washed without damaging it. This will happen jan/feb and couldn’t be managed sooner due to bookings. But it will be done in the off season. The garden table actually seats 10 and the extra chairs/stools are slotted into the 6 that fit round the table. It then all tucks away under the table to keep clean and dry. The settees are leather, very high quality mega expensive sofas. We sorry you didn’t find them comfortable and will look at the slippery sofas Property Owner
