  • "The Bothy is a very light and spacious property in a quiet hillside location with lovely rural views and private garden."

It is well equipped with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay and conveniently situated for getting out and about with good pubs nearby. As other reviewers have already stated, there are a few shortcomings, most of which did not affect our enjoyment and could be remedied easily and cheaply (please sort out the curtain headings!!) However, a significant disappointment, for us at least, was the bed which was not very comfortable. Such a shame that the super roomy bedroom had only a 4'6" bed. Overall, The Bothy represents very good value for money in a perfect spot to enjoy total peace and quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there.

Lots of information available in well organised folders. It had everything you would need to cater for yourselves - just as well since Eye was a little further than we imagined! With a car though it was not a problem. A lovely spot for a relaxing break or to explore beautiful Suffolk The only problem we had was with the tv remote control which needs some attention

The bath and shower not easy to use, I also found the bed a bit to firm. On the plus side, large lounge and kitchen, garden and quiet location.

  • "I am working in Eye on a Power Plant."

My job takes me all over the country so I have to find 'digs'. I try to book self contained accommodation because I like to cook my own healthy food. And I like my own space. I also love the countryside. So when my wife found this location It ticked all the boxes. The downside is because it is a holiday let, I am limited for my stay. My contracts often last between 3mth to 18mths. That is why I I often choose long term accommodation. FOR THE DURATION OF MY CONTRACT. However the contract that I am currently on is only for 2 mths, so I don't mind the inconvenience of moving around. I have stayed in the bothy twice in 3wks. It has been so tranquil, peaceful, and relaxing after work, the country side surroundings and wild life has been fantastic. Sitting out in the garden with a love glass of wine completes my wonderful experience. If it is available in July I will most certainly book it again.

A freezer is now fitted instead of a dish washer. The bed mattress is a little hard, would benefit from a mattress topper .Overall,a lovely cottage for the price. Would stay again.

This property is very under advertised in fact the facilities listed are superb and the property is very up to date even a downstairs wash room which is not listed in all honesty the pictures should be updated and a proper listing of facilities this property could easily sleep 4 but advertised only sleeping 2

  • "Mixed review really: The property is very dated."

Initially looked clean but underside of loo seats brown; walls covered in dusty cobwebs; ledges dusty. Shower under eaves so constantly banged our heads. Windows not clean and some still had stickers from when double glazing installed; used vacuum cleaner and the smell from it was terrible needs a good cean out; bathroom light constantly flashing and went out totally at times. (Left note about this). BUT, lounge was large and comfortable; bed was comfy; plenty of wardrobe space; lots of pleasant finishing touches; plenty of crockery, cutlery, etc; large kitchen diner; peaceful, quiet setting; view from back windows pleasant and we saw some interesting wild life.

The garden had very long grass and if the weather had been good enough it wouldn't have been pleasant to sit in. As visitors from overseas the Internet was very important for us to book meals etc throughout our visit it was very weak and during the first day and a half non existent. At no time was it strong enough to appear on my iPad therefore I did not receive your instructions for how to leave the rubbish! Feeling guilty about this now but was the fault of the owners internet connection not ours.

  • "I relate the term “Bothy” to pokey wooden huts, very basic living and isolation."

It’s not like that. The accommodation is spacious and very cosy and comfortable. There is the luxury of a loo on each floor, a walk in pantry and a fridge and separate freezer. All facilities we wanted were there. Heating is excellent. Any problems and the owner is next door and has community contacts to solve problems that arise. A previous review bemoaned the lack of wine glasses- When we were there there were three types of wine glass. This is an owner that cares! You should know however that it is a bit isolated by many people’s standards at the end of a half mile farm track from the hamlet/village of Stoke Ash. The pub (The White Horse -5star in my book) is 1.2 miles and shopping is 3miles+ in Eye. It is of course an excellent centre for exploring that part of East Anglia. If you want to walk public footpaths take a good OS map and/or ask directions. Car access is not a problem. Although it is a working farm in some respects work does not centre on the farmyard where the cottage is and it is very quiet. If you want a silent retreat: A fortnight’s total escape to finish writing that novel - this is it.

  • "The house was very clean and spacious and although we didn't take our dogs, the garden would have been dog proof for our spaniels, which is good to know for future as many dog friendly cottages don't have this."

The New owners are lovely and very helpful, the wifi hub in the house had the code scratched off so I couldn't connect but she gave me her code so I could connect and check out local stuff and current restrictions. It would be good if the hub in the Bothy just worked though. The location served us well as we were birdwatching and there are good RSPB and other sites close by. Could have done with some wine glasses , we asked for a tea strainer and got one and a breadboard would have been nice as well as waste bin in the bathroom, there was one downstairs in the WC . We brought our own bin bags and paper kitchen towels as advised as these were not provided. Overall we had a lovely time and the property worked well for us.

The cottage was very warm for anyone who wishes to visit during the winter months. The only problem were the lights in the lounge. There are also glamping tents on an adjoining field which cannot be seen from the Bothy. The Bothy is located down a track away from the road which makes it a quiet and peaceful location. There are several pubs and restaurants within easy reach although a car is needed to access these. Shops are a few miles away. We stayed at the Bothy for a week with our 2 little dogs. The accommodation was clean and had adequate facilities for our needs. The garden was safe and secure for the dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The owner is very helpful and happy to help with any queries. When we arrived we had tea, coffee, milk and biscuits left for us. Thank you for a lovely week.

Unfortunately it was still slow and patchy but probably to be expected in such a rural area. This also accounted for the very poor television reception. However it gave us plenty of time for reading our books. Ideal spot for a quiet, relaxing break. First holiday for our two guide dog puppies and they really enjoyed it.
