  • "All was pretty good BUT we contacted you to find out how to open the key lock box to allow us access to the courtyard at the back of the house to store bikes and no one replied."

So that was disappointing. But otherwise ok.

Thank you for your feedback. I’ve checked with the housekeeper and Best of Suffolk, who can’t see any contact from you during your stay. Best of Suffolk is going to contact you to find out where you sent your message - they are usually very good at replying quickly. Best wishes. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was really lovely, and thank you to the owners for letting us stay and extending by a day."

However, there were a few issues that made our stay challenging - the rooms were extremely light and we had to buy additional blackout blinds; there were only 4 bath towels provided for an 8 day stay and no washing machine (we had to use our beach towels and ask family who live nearby to please wash our clothes and towels for us to last the stay); the carpet on the stairs has sharp tacks pointing out of it on every step and our children cut their feet on them 4 times!; under the sink was leaking and smells bad; the welcome pack was appreciated but lack of tea bags, no salt/pepper grinders, only providing one bin bag and 4 toilet rolls for an 8 day stay again just felt unnecessarily stingy and made the start of the holiday difficult rather than comfortable and homely. We usually stay in air bnbs and this stuff is basic provision along with towels/washing machine so it was quite off-putting unfortunately despite it being a really lovely place and perfect location and the bath, TV and living room suite are fabulous. Fortunately we have family who live in the area who were able to help us out to make our stay more comfortable, but without this it would have been upsetting and wastes a lot of time for people who have paid to come on holiday then find they have to go shopping for basic stuff they have at home and could have brought had they known (yes you pre warned us there 'might' not be many bin bags - but we weren't at all expecting ONE bag for an 8 day stay for a family of 4 who also recycle everything they can - as I say it gave an impression of being purposely awkward for those coming on holiday as it would have cost pennies to provide 3 bin bags and salt/pepper grinders and a spare 4 pack of loo roll we would not have used them all, but it would have felt more comfortable and welcoming than crisps). The worst part was just how impossible it is to get any information from or communicate with best of suffolk/sykes cottages. This we would describe as 'extremely poor' and wouldn't give one star. Your app doesn't work, your numbers are hidden, the emails are no reply, the online chat doesn't ever work, it takes over a week for anyone to answer a simple question by WhatsApp- a route which took me 3 days to discover was even an option of contacting you. We won't be using this company again or recommending it.

Thank you for your feedback, it's much appreciated. I have made a lot of improvements to the cottage this year, and I'm glad you thought it was lovely, and it's also very helpful to know what to focus on next to make it even more comfortable. I'm currently exploring whether I can find space for a washing machine. The house does have black out blinds in the bedrooms, but at this time of year the light is particularly bright and rises early on the East Coast. I recently had new carpet fitted to make the stairs more comfortable under foot, and so I will have this checked. The missing salt and pepper pots are being replaced and I'll speak to my housekeeper about supplying more bin bags. Best wishes. Property Owner

  • "This is a beautiful cottage and we enjoyed our stay there."

However there were a few things which were a bit problematic. We found the fan oven far too complicated and just couldn’t get to grips with it.. We couldn’t get several channels on the television including BBC 1 and 2. The bins were full when we arrived and there was no key for the back gate so couldn’t put them out.

Thank you for your feedback, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. I had installed a new smart TV before you arrived, and it has full access to live and iPlayer BBC channels, but I think maybe it wasn't obvious how to find them. I've now left clearer instructions. The bins are emptied directly from the back yard by the council, so guests shouldn't need to move them. I will keep an eye on them to ensure this is happening. Thank you again for your feedback. The bath and en-suite is very slippery also shower in en-suite didn’t work properly maintenance came out 1st time and mended it but it broke again on first use afterwards so definitely needs looking into

Thank you for your feedback. I have recently replaced the shower fixings in both bathrooms, so both should be working well now. Property Owner

  • "Delightful cottage, comfortable and well equipped."

Clean and tastefully decorated and in a good position for the lovely town and beach. We would definitely consider returning, so many great places to visit. One problem was the blinds in the two bay windows which needs sorting, mainly the side panels ,but easily fixed. Thank you for a lovely few days break.

Thank you for your feedback, we're so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your comment about the blinds, I'm in the process of choosing new fabrics to replace them. Property Owner

  • "The stairs are steep and would benefit from having a carpet rather than bare boards."

Thank you for your feedback, I have been making lot of upgrades to the cottage recently, including new sofas, full interior decoration, and next on my list is carpet for the stairs. So it's good to hear that you think this would be helpful. Property Owner

  • "Kitchen overflow blocked and bit smelly."

Kitchen hot tap very stiff. En suite shower low power, needs grouting cleaning etc Daylight blinds would be nice downstairs esp kitchen. Dinner plates and bowls too big for dishwasher, too chunky.

Thank you for your online review and for the lovely message you left in the visitors book saying the house was well-kept. It has very recently been redecorated inside and has new sofas, and I am planning more upgrades. I’ll look at the points you’ve raised, which are very helpful to know about. Property Owner

  • "What a wonderful cottage!"

Perfect for long walks on the beach and along the bougie High Street. Recommend the Cross Keys for simple but delicious pub grub, and the beachfront shacks for seafood that is so fresh, if it was any fresher, it would still be swimming. Both fish and chip shops have queues going down the high street, and a pint of Southwold is to die for. Hope future guests enjoy their time here as much as we did!
