  • "It's a lovely unusual place to stay, nice area & scenery but a bit expensive for what you get."

Comfort is fine, obviously wear & tear on the outside but there improvements are needed for inside. We had no gas left to use the oven, this should of been checked before the next guests arrive. We waited over the weekend until a replacement gas bottle was brought over. Communications with Sykes was good & prompt. Cleaning was not great, dirty greasy hob, dusty, massive cobwebs & a dirty toilet. So we had to clean as soon as we got there. The welcome information file was not detailed enough & inaccurate. It needs updating. We had a power cut & finding the 2nd fuse box was difficult! It's in the kitchen, behind the bin, on the floor. Also the house keeper (who's details are in the file) hasn't worked there for 6 months, as I contacted her about helping with the power outage! The shower isn't great as you have to plunge the plug hole as you shower to get the water to drain, that's a complete nuisance.

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay and have rebooked to return before the end of the year. We are printing new housekeeping instructions so that should be updated and we are investigating the shower issue and we’ll organise a deep clean. Looking forward to welcoming you back. • "Overall we had a lovely stay at The Old Fisherman's Hut."

The position of the hut is amazing. Although the bedroom is small it is very comfortable and the other facilities were good, with the exception of the shower as the water drainage wasn't very effective and a little plunge was necessary. We had an issue with a loss of power on the first evening, the information folder was not up to date regarding a second fuse box which was frustrating. When Rob and his colleague from the maintenance team arrived the next morning they took a photo of the second fuse box which was not visible behind a bin and blocked from view. The updated info should prevent future guests from having a problem. We would stay again and will recommend this little gem.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

Great walks and pub nearby too. The hut was as expected basic but comfortable. The only setback was that the garden was not secure for the dog ( had to be kept on a lead Also a note to inform guests that no firewood is supplied. We enjoyed our weekend very much and would love to return

We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. So sorry you couldn’t find the logs, we will make the instructions of the log store location clearer but it’s always fully stocked so hopefully you can make use of it on your next stay. Property Owner

  • "The fisherman’s hut was in a lovely location surrounded by walks and nature."

Perfectly positioned for lovely sunrises and sunsets. We was concerned that visiting in October, how warm would “the hut” be ? , it was warm and toasty and the small electric heaters kept it surprisingly warm. There were no logs or kindle supplied for the log burner, and didn’t know if there would be a starter pack supplied or not, so we did take our own. After several days we discovered a log store, but not sure if it is for our use as it’s not mentioned . The shower tray did not drain properly, but we did find a plunger. The kitchen was small but had everything we needed . Storage for clothing is very limited, there’s a locked trunk so unusable, and a large chest of drawers but opens onto the sofa , so unable to access them . Having said all this , we had a lovely stay , very unique and located in a tranquil position . The local pub food is really lovely and the staff friendly.I would recommend this to friends and family .

Thank you for your feedback, we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "This hut needs attention and more up to date photographs on the website."

It has such potential but any work carried out is shoddy and ugly ie, chair repair in living room. We stayed in September and I notice (19/11/24) that people are still commenting on the cleanliness (poor), poor instructions (wood store), poor/no draining shower and gurgling plumbing. We too had a power cut and no instructions as to what to do! It doesn't look like any of the 'promises' by the owner in reply to comments are ever carried out to me. To be fair the location was good and the sofa comfortable. Definitely would not stay here again. Sykes could do with reading all the reviews and getting the landlord to take action. We expected it to be basic but this takes the biscuit!

  • "A beautifully situated and well equipped property which had everything we needed for a lovely stay."

Cleanliness was rather superficial. I had to wipe down all the very dusty surfaces in the lounge and the bathroom floor was really dirty behind the door and along the edges. A shame as otherwise it is a fantastic place. Your information stated we needed to bring teatowels but these were supplied. The cottage info states that there is no glass recycling but there is a bin which clearly says glass so that also needs updating.

Thank you so much for your feedback, we will talk to the cleaners and organise a deep clean. We will update all the information too. Hope to welcome you back and pleased the rest of your stay was enjoyable. Property Owner

  • "The best thing about this property is the location, absolutely idyllic, so beautiful and peaceful."

The views from every window were spectacular. The bed was very comfortable but bedroom freezing cold (in August). Unfortunately the exterior was covered with cobwebs, lichen, bird poo etc - a little too far past 'rustic' for us but nothing a good clean wouldn't fix. Being so close to the river was v special but we didn't feel it entirely justified the price per night. We did enjoy our stay though and will be coming back to the area as a result.

Thank you so much for your feedback. The gardeners have been here yesterday and have got rid of all the cobwebs and have given the external area a good clean. There is a little heater in the bedroom which you can use to warm the room up as and when required. We are pleased you enjoyed the location and look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

Nice to have a bottle of wine on arrival, a bottle of milk would have been good. The property requires a good clean, particularly outside with windows covered in cobwebs etc.

Thank you for your feedback, we have spoken to our cleaners who have done a deep clean and the window cleaner has dealt with the cobwebs. We are pleased you enjoyed the location and views from the hut. Property Owner

  • "The Hut is in an amazing location with views over the river to Walberswick, very comfy, cosy and warm for the time of the year."

Everything was as expected and we loved our time there. One pice of feedback, the frying pan was old and had lost its non-stick (assuming it had it), also could have done with some more serving bowls to serve food in, this was not a massive issue as we ate out often. Would and have recommended this place to other ands we will definitely consider a return trip. Thank you

The views are magnificent, and you can walk straight out into them. The accommodation was warm cosy and clean. We were well provided for. We enjoyed our stay, and intend to return. 2 things that could do with attention. The toilet flush is ineffective, and the shower drain is blocked.

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased you had a good stay. We have fixed the plumbing issues now, thank you for bringing them to our attention. Property Owner

Lovely property, well equipped and comfortable (and joy of joys, sharp cooks knives in the kitchen). Really enjoyed our stay here as there was always something to see along the river. It was really cosy with the stove lit in the evening. A great place to get away from it all.

  • "Beautifully situated in the Harbour."

Our second stay meant we were more aware of the lack of care given to this little gem. The bedroom is tricky and would be improved easily with a different style of bed so that you could get off and on at the foot. We could put up with this though if the rest was given some tlc. The shower and toilet needed attention. Instructions for cooker inaccurate. Mop broken. Tiles to steps just loosely placed on path. Outside furniture and ambience not attractive. A great shame. It could be a jewel.

  • "We have stayed in the Old Fishermans Hut before so knew what to expect."

The hut was clean and comfortable in the lounge area. The kitchen is well equipped. The shower worked well with lovely big towels provided. Beware when entering the bathroom as a loose floor tile lies underneath the rug in front of the door. The views are wonderful and the location is great for walking. The weather was perfect whilst we were there so we were able to use to outside patio area which is a sun trap in the evenings, cushions are provided for the outdoor furniture. Access to the outdoor area could be improved with a little hedge pruning plus the 'garden' cannot be used as it is very overgrown. The whole of the outside could do with smartening up. The bed is located in a 'shed' attached to the main hut. You have to go through a make shift cold, dark 'corridor' to get to the bed area - not really a room - only enough space for the bed, but the bed itself was comfortable. It is a shame that there are a few maintenance issues that do not seem to get addressed but still we love the location for the peace, views and walks so will be back.

Thank you for your feedback, we have done quite a large amount of maintencance recently on the property - new flooring, new bed, regular gardeners, new shower. We hope you do come back for another stay and are able to enjoy the improvements. Thank you again for your review. Property Owner

  • "Hello, I had been meaning to write to you about my trip."

I very much enjoyed the Fishermans Hut, despite the weather which was atrocious and a nasty bout of food poisoning from Sole Bay Fish Company. There are a few things that I would like to mention that would improve others stays. On the listing it says fuel and heating is included but on arrival there were only a few bits of wood for the log burning stove, most of which did not fit. It was a cold and windy night and it would be better to tell people where they can buy wood as I could not get any until next morning. The door between the kitchen and bedroom burst open in the wind at 3 am in the morning. The bottom latch would not close and this needs to be seen too. The shower is very disappointing , it only works on Eco and the pressure is useless. Also it blocks all the time. A single roll of toilet paper is not enough for a 5 day stay and nor is a single bin liner in the kitchen which was nice to cook in but I had to buy everything from scratch. I am sure people leave things like olive oil and spices but the cupboard was bare, salt and pepper was all. I ended up throwing everything away as requested but it seemed like a waste and I know other people have bookings for this week so it would be nice to have a few extra condiments in the cupboard. We do this in our rental and there is a good supply of things like olive oil and spices all left by visitors for the benefit of other guests. The bedroom is a challenge as its very tight but its quiet and cosy but the bed is broken and needs fixing as there is a big dip in the middle. Apart from this I enjoyed the hut and would stay again and I hope my comments are helpful and not taken as criticism. Regards Mark

Thank you so much for your feedback. I am pleased to say we have updated the shower, and we have changed the bed and mattress. All the other mentioned bits of maintenence have also been looked at and fixed. There is a log cupboard just opposite the hut but perhaps instructions for this aren't clear - we shall improve on that. We hope you do come back again soon for another stay so you can enjoy the improvements. Property Owner

) we consider it to be the best spot in Southwold, it is warm & cosy in the out of season months & light and airy in the warmer ones with of course the best views in town all year round. The facilities in “The Hut” are perfectly adequate for two people & we have never had any problems with the amenities provided. If you are looking for somewhere to escape the noise and rubbish that can consume you on a daily basis in this increasingly mad world we all live in then “The Hut” is the place to go, if however you want silver service, butler service and pretentious nonsense then you will need to look elsewhere, there are establishments that do offer those facilities within the area. It’s so nice to be able to view the river from the lounge, two decks and the garden. The Harbour Inn is really close and serves good food as does Mrs T’s which is our favourite chippy. It’s close to Southwold beach and not too far from Walberswick too. I just wish they would allow pets.
