  • "A lovely property which is very conveniently located for the beach, mere, pub, and cafes."

Comfortable and characterful with pretty much everything you might need. It has good walking from the door, decent wifi, and a very comfortable bed. Parking outside at this time of year (October) was not a problem. A couple of points, however. The listing could make it clearer that the stairs also have narrow treads which may cause problems for those with balance issues or creaky knees (at the moment this is buried in the detailed text). The lack of cleaning equipment (hoover, floor mop) made it difficult to leave the property as I would usually like (dog hair is hard to remove with a dustpan and brush). Finally, a few more mugs, a colander, and a couple of baking trays would finish the kitchen equipment nicely.

  • "Great location overlooking the beautiful Mere, and if you’re lucky you can park outside the cottage."

This cottage could have been so much better with a few additions to it. We were there for our nieces wedding, so getting dressed up for the wedding is all part of the fun, but no mirror on the dressing table for applying the makeup,no full length mirror on the back of the wardrobe door for a final inspection, need to be extra careful on the very narrow stairs, I know because of the age of the cottage they are narrow, we have friends in the village that have a similar cottage and they have a handrail added…a lot safer. As soon as we opened the front door we could smell pets have been visiting,ok, know we are a nation of dog lovers, but the 2 blankets in the living area need to be washed or changed for new ones. Finally the small patio set in the front needs a parasol to sit under when enjoying the sunshine and the views over the lovely Mere. So, to sum up, we stayed for 9 nights, paid a lot of money for the stay, and have paid less in much nicer cottages, sorry, Ron and Beverley.

  • "Great location and I loved the cottage!"

It was disappointing to only have a choice of 5 TV channels despite there being a Sky box. Will definitely be rebooking though.

  • "We visited at a time of year (6th October 2023) when the nights were drawing in and the temperatures generally were falling back."

The accommodation became rather chilly in the evenings and it proved impossible to turn the heating up as per the instruction in the site folder. I doubt if the central heating boiler was even switched on. Irrespective of the ambient temperature if there is a heating system in the property it should be possible to turn it on as required.

Thank you for letting us know about the heating. There was an unknown problem with the thermostat and it has now been replaced. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is comfortable, well-appointed, and maintained to a high standard."

Always deep cleaned for arrival with a nice welcome pack and useful information/instructions folder. Everything works (with a local contact if anything doesn't, which, we have only needed to use once, for advice about an IT issue, which was quickly resolved). In character with the cottage, the stairs have rather steep risers and shallow treads, which one soon adapts to, and with normal care, and use of the decent handrail, are not really a problem. The corner position, with the two lounge windows, provides a pleasing view across to the Mere and life going by, generally. All in all a very pleasant, restful and comfortable place to stay, to which we have returned severel times before and will continue to do so, hopefully.

  • "Really enjoyed my stay."

Perfect size for myself and dog. I am thinking of booking for next year but would like to know how much extra it is for the annexe. I think some of the instruction manual needs updating particularly for the TV. Instructions for turning it on were wrong and so was the extra note that was left at the cottage during my stay. I knew how it should work as my daughter has the same set up and it's very simple. All in all though cottage was lovely, clean and well equipped. I appreciated being quite close to the beach to enable quick dash to the beach for an early morning and evening swim

  • "It was just perfect."

I arrived very tired and found I settled in really quickly. All instructions were clear, the place was spotless and I had a wonderful time. Hope to be back!

  • "Lovely clean and comfortable little cottage, ideally situated for the beach and walks etc and the perfect spot for sitting in the little front garden and watching the world go by."

We were fortunate to have wall to wall sunshine during our stay and a small garden parasol would have been appreciated as the front garden is a little Sun trap. The welcome pack was appreciated and we will definitely be back for another stay.

  • "A delightful cottage near the beach which was perfect for our holiday."

The cottage was clean, warm and very comfortable. The wine etc was gratefully received-thank you. The proximity to the sea was wonderful and the fine weather a bonus. The only drawback was the very steep and narrow staircase, which was difficult to navigate if carrying any item. Whilst it did not spoil our stay I think it would be helpful to mention this in the description as a warning to older people We did our best to leave the cottage as clean as on arrival but could find no hoover, broom, dusters or cleaning products. This is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in and the best holiday we've had for years!

The property

A charming holiday cottage ideally located in the picture-perfect Suffolk seaside village of Thorpeness.

Ideal for a couple looking to get away from it all in stylish accommodation. Thorpeness is one of Suffolk's best-kept secrets.

Just a mile and a half along the beach from Aldeburgh, this charming holiday village was largely designed by the Scottish playwright and barrister Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie a century ago.

He decided to create an idyllic model seaside village, inspired by the writings of JM Barrie, author of Peter Pan. The village has a meare which can be explored in the summer time by rowing boat.

Plus, there's tennis courts and a games room at the nearby Thorpeness Country Club during the summer months. Keen walkers (either two legs or four paws!) will enjoy the area as it's ideal for walking and cycling, both along the coast and the inland countryside.

You can then relax and put your feet up in your cosy cottage after a day exploring all that Suffolk has to offer.

The views over the meare in the living room and front patio really are rather spectacular.

Picture yourself opening a bottle of something cool and bubbly whilst taking in the magic of Thorpenss meare. Ground Floor A courtyard at the back of this charming cottage gives access to the kitchen, with a second door from the living room opening into the sunny front patio.

There's a door between the two rooms and wooden staircase rising from the kitchen to the first-floor landing. Living Room This has beautiful views across The Meare and has a two seater sofa, large arm chair, natural choir carpet, Smart TV which connection toFreeSat. Kitchen/Dining Room In the kitchen/diner there's a beautiful handmade kitchen with a Smeg range cooker, fridge, dishwasher, Nespresso coffee machine, microwave and a dining table to seat four people.

The cottage's original stairs (Some may find them a little steep and narrow) from the kitchen lead up to the first floor. First Floor Both the bedroom and bathroom open off the landing.

The bedroom has a sisal carpet flooring and the bathroom has an attractive wooden floor. Bedroom There's a handmade oak king-size bed and natural choir flooring and two windows, one of which has lovely views of The Meare and the other a glimpse of the sea. Bathroom A large family bathroom with a magnificent freestanding bath, separate shower, sink and w.c. Outside There are patios to the front and rear of this semi-detached Suffolk holiday cottage with an outdoor table and chairs to seat four.

The front patio has pretty views across Thorpeness Meare.

There is a right of access over the back patio to the back garden of a neighbouring cottage.

Across the road from the cottage you'll find The Beach House cafe-acute;/restaurant and The Meare cafe-acute.

On-road parking is usually available either on the road outside the cottage or around the corner on the beach road near the Thorpeness Country Club. Guest Wing There is also the option of adding on the guest wing which comprises of a double bedroom & wet room, making the property suitable for 4.

Please get in touch if you wish to add this.

There is also a sunny patio at the front with furniture all set up ready for guests to enjoy the stunning views over Thorpeness Meare & a courtyard at the rear too.

This is the ideal spot for enjoying a morning coffee and planning the day’s activities.

Thorpeness is a short distance away and the Meare itself is popular for boating with the charming town of Aldeburgh also nearby.

Beaches worth visiting in the area include Southwold, Dunwich, Walberswick and Kessingland, so why not pack a picnic and make a day of it?

Other places worth a visit include Snape Maltings, Framlingham Castle, RSPB Minsmere, Go Ape Thetford and Glemham Hall.
