"My mother struggled with her mattress, it was lumpy and thin."
...she had several uncomfortable nights. The table in the kitchen was too low to sit under and we wondered whether we could find some bricks to sure it up. I slept well but the mattresses were on the tin side and it took a few nights to get used to that. Apart from these things, the cottage was excellent with all that we needed. We loved the garden and the layout of the house, the views from the sitting room.

"Ideal for us."
Especially the bike storage. Clean and roomy. However, spent all week looking for the welcome pack without any luck.

"Hoist Cottage is a lovely clean and spacious holiday cottage."
All the facilities we needed were available and we loved the large garden which suited out seven year old twin grand children. Bonuses, Close to the sea, walk to the shop and the pub and easy trip to Southwold. We will book again.

"This was the perfect Suffolk base with our two children."
They absolutely loved the garden and their garden room and spent many hours playing happily in the sun. The house was cosy and welcing and very well equipped. We loved it so much we've booked again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

"We had a lovely week in hoist cottage."
Very comfortable, clean with a lovely big garden. The summer house was full of toys and one of the bedrooms had soft toys and books for younger children, a thoughtful touch. It would have been nice to have a welcome pack with a few essentials, bread, milk etc ( not a criticism a suggestion). Lots to do in the surrounding area, a great family holiday.
We previously provided Welcome Packs. Our experience was that different Guests expected different items and most weeks much of the Pack was left behind - Cakes, Crisps, Fruit Juice, Specialist Beverages etc. The food items could not be recycled and generated unacceptable waste. We therefore now simply provide ample Toilet Rolls, Detergent, Dishwasher Tablets, Kitchen Roll / Foil, Hand Wash etc leaving Guests to bring their own food. Property Owner

"Everything excellent including your communications."
Not a complaint but the welcome pack referred to in the Guide was not there.

"Our second time to this fabulous and comfortable cottage."
Everything we needed for a relaxing no worries week away.
-
"Very comfortable and clean with all the facilities you need."
Not sure if it is Sykes Cottages policy but missed not having a welcome pack on arrival.

"Lovely cottage with everything we needed!"
Beds and bedrooms very comfortable as well as the lounge room. Equipment in the shed for crabbing very helpful. Summer room lovely for children, and a very nice welcome with soft toys in the bedroom. Lego under the stairs was also fab! A new potato peeler would be welcome… Thank you very much for a fantastic week!
A 2nd Vegetable Peeler has been added to the Hoist Kitchen. Property Owner

"We enjoyed much of the stay and found the cottage generally spacious and comfortable, however there were a few issues worth mentioning."
The main kitchen table and chairs are not very well matched; we were 6 normal sized adults and all found it hard to sit and eat with sufficient legroom under the edge of the table. Either the chairs need to be lower or the table higher! One of the bath towels had several bleach stains on it - that's definitely not the standard we expect from Sykes. The kitchen area had two spotlights blown when we arrived (we informed Sykes and the owner); we were surprised to find only one spare bulb in the utility cupboard. Given the flow of traffic outside the front gate we wondered whether it might be safer to trim back the immediate shrubbery - to allow clearer visibility? Hope you find these points constructive...and we loved the village, its surrounds and the walking opportunities.

"A lovely cottage, well equipped and very clean."
The big garden is a great bonus!

"Stayed there twice before, only minor complaint was dust under the beds which hadn't been cleaned."
Otherwise all great

"Great location for a family with young children."
Liked the garden activity equipment.
-
"Had a lovely time, in fact so good that we've booked again for 2024."
Owner was very prompt in responding to an issue with the hot water - thank you.
-
"It was very clean and well-kept with fresh and pleasant decor."
Particularly liked the bath with a view! One of the two paving stones by the front gate tips underfoot, which could do with fixing for safety given that the road is right in front. Didn't notice the arrival of the oil refill people as warned by email, but the timing of the gardener's visit on the first morning of the stay was unexpected and a little obtrusive, although he tried to be as discreet as possible.

Lots of sea swimming, crabbing, trips to Southwold and relaxing at the house. Look forward to returning soon :)

"The cottage felt like a home away from home."
Very peaceful and relaxing. We have been spoilt with the sunshine so we made the most of the outdoor space. Thank you.
