  • "The three of us had a great week in Wheelwright's Barn."

Finding it was a little tricky as the 'orange' door is, in fact, dark green but the owners were very helpful. Although the weather was a bit wet, we got out for long walks every day and the dogs had a brilliant time (though tearing about on pebbly beaches took its toll on one of them). The Barn was cosy and well-equipped, having everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The 'library' on the landing had a fabulous selection of books as well as jigsaws.

  • "We loved the interior of Wheelwrights Barn, except that it lacked natural light."

Beautiful furniture, character, it was spacious and had everything we needed. Super downstairs bedroom/ensuite for our elderly relative. Most suitable as a winter retreat. Sadly the outside space was a huge let down, overgrown covering windows, slippery steps, not secure for dogs and sadly not very nice to sit in. Barn is on busy road with no pavements, which was not clear. Lack of local footpaths without first walking along busy road. Overall, loved the barn inside, but wouldn’t stay again.

  • "The house needs a bit of updating but fine overall."

The owner was very quick to respond to a query about the heating, and left some welcome gifts in the kitchen, so worth a stay

Lots of utilities for dining in we had lovely hot weather so we sat outside a lot big table and chairs which probably needs updating or re varnishing . Loved the goats next door. Hosts left a lovely welcome gift of their chicken eggs , cake and wine. Would have loved to taste the goats milk. All in all an excellent break away thank you Jenny.Paul. Julie , Mark and our dogs . Would definitely stay there again

  • "Mattress on the double upstairs is badly stained and very thin not on a proper bed base, it needs to be replaced, it was uncomfortable and not fit for purpose."

The people slept on the sofa. Nice warm house with plenty of hot water. Garden needs urgent attention, plaving slabs outside back door slippery. Shrubs need pruning to give more light.

We had a lovely few days exploring the area. The cottage was well equipped, with a really generous welcome pack. We will happily come back.

  • "The property was absolutely gorgeous."

It was warm and cosy when we got there and spotlessly clean. Lovely big fridge and freezer. And loads of things provided that Sykes didn’t know, and we couldn’t ask directly of the owner so ended up bringing coffee, tea, salt, pepper, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, cleaning cloths etc when it was all, very helpfully, provided. The garden is secure enough for the dogs to walk around as long as someone stays with them. Beautiful views and the goats are just gorgeous. And of course, Percy the peacock deserves his own separate write up! The only 2 niggles were the double bed upstairs, thin mattress on a VERY hard base. All other beds good though. And no instructions on how to work the oven or kettle. The kettle we worked out but the oven was really hit and miss. Thankfully my brother had come across similar and knew the magic touch. Other than that, I would definitely stay here again. Sykes communication was quite good from start to finish, good instructions etc and then the owner himself text me on the day with more detailed instructions and was super helpful in leaving the door unlocked so we didn’t struggle in the dark. Really thoughtful. Plus the most beautiful Christmas tree with lights and a lovely cake, mince pies and milk and Prosecco were also left which was a really lovely touch and gratefully received. All in all a great success Thankyou.

  • "We had a lovely week but have to agree with the previous reviews in that the cottage needs some TLC and the garden is very overgrown."

Appreciate it is a character building but didn’t think it was as clean as it could be with some cobwebs and the downstairs bedroom had a small patch of damp/mould in one corner. If the greenery was cut back it would have been easier to open the window. Again, instructions for the oven would have been useful as it wouldn’t come on without fiddling with all the buttons. We appreciated the welcome gifts and enjoyed the log burner. This was our first visit to Suffolk and we thought it was beautiful and we will definitely return to the area.

  • "Very confusing as instructions incorrectly stated the barn had an orange door, the proprietor had to stand in the road to wave us down as it is a green door."

It was very dangerous pulling out into the road as it is on a bend and there are overgrown trees blocking the view of oncoming traffic, a mirror on the other side of the road would be very beneficial. The vegetation around the barn could do with cutting down as opening windows was a bit difficult. There were no instructions for any of the kitchen equipment and there was no colander. None of this affected our stay though, a bit of tlc needed on it otherwise we had a lovely time. The Guernsey goats and the peacock were lovely. The welcome pack was appreciated with fresh eggs and wild flowers. The barn itself is well equipped for 6 people and it is very central to visit the surrounding areas. Found the nearest pubs are in Halesworth, The King's Head and The Angel. Had a roast at the Queen's Head in Bramfield which was lovely.

  • "Lovely spacious barn and well equipped."

Ideal location for exploring beautiful Suffolk. Garden and surrounding areas need some TLC. Appliance instructions would be useful. No DVD player as listed. Lovely welcome gifts. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • "A roomy & generally comfy accomodation in a beautiful area & well placed for exploring the Suffolk coastline."

Cottage needs a bit of TLC, for example, the rear patio is quite overgrown with shrubs, as are the windows in the front of the property, making it quite dark when daylight. Appliance instructions would be useful. The shower in the groundfloor en-suite overflows onto the floor etc. The toilet bowls are badly stained with scale & the kettle needs descaling, we did clean the filter on it as it was difficult to pour. We did enjoy our stay & thank the owner for the welcome gifts.

  • "Difficult to find as looking for an orange door, also the owners who live next door have their house name on at the entrance which leads you to think its not Wheelwrights Barn."

Storage trays in ground floor shower would be a huge help also with pegs behind the door. We loved staying there meeting their dogs and making friends with Percy the Peacock and hope to return. A lovely comfortable home.

  • "Property was in lovely situation and with many villages and small towns within an easy drive."

The downstairs bedroom and walk in shower was good for my sister who struggles with stairs and the enclosed garden was ideal for our lab. Some sort of shelving Iin both bathrooms would be useful.

  • "Lovely cottage: well equipped and comfortable."

The owners lived next door and were available if we had any queries. They also owned a herd of goats, chickens, bees, dogs and a very friendly peacock called Percy: All very entertaining. We squeezed a lot of sightseeing into our visit: Rendlesham Forest UFO trail, Snape Maltings, Minsmere RSPB reserve (spring watch), Leiston Abbey, Thorpness, Aldeburgh, Framingham Castle, Helmingham Hall, Southwold, Walberswick and Sudbourne Nature Reserve. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would recommend a stay in Suffolk to anyone that loves the country. Wheelwright Barn was in a perfect location.

Thank you! We’re so glad you enjoyed Wheelwright’s and all that Suffolk has to offer. Property Owner

  • "A lovely and relaxing place to spend some quality family time."

The hosts were very accommodating, helpful when needed and very nice. Only downfall was the unsecured garden as using long lines is a little hard with more than one dog as they get twisted and muddy in the bad weather. But the ease of everything else made up for that. Also make the best Honey I ever tasted!

The kitchen is well equipped. the cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived, with cake, milk and a bottle of pressecco to welcome us. Good hosts too. highly recommend.
