  • "Wonderful location, so much to see and do ."

Arundel has an amazing Chinese and Italian restaurant. The owner supplied everything for our dog and made him feel really welcome, he had a safe secure and good area to run around in ,plus Slindon Wood 3 minutes walk away. The stairs are steep and the ceiling slopes very low either side of a low bed in a very large and pretty bedroom.

  • "Debbie is a very nice owner, no doubt about that."

When their was no electricity in the conservatory so took immediately action, although it could repaired only on Tuesday. We had a nice week in beautiful Sussex for sure. But the Barn needs really better cleaning, inside but also outside (the conservatory and the shed are really dirty). And please place stepping stones in the grass so you can reach the parking place without wet shoes. Upstairs there is a very good bed, but you have to be very flexible to go in because of roof nearby. And of course, although the owners can not change that, you hear outside the noise of the A27 very well.

Dear Arden I am deeply saddened you did not see the beautiful, cosy , clean and well appointed property all my other guests have seen and experienced when staying in The Stables Barn. I have taken on your feedback In the summer months I will admit the hot weather will cause the conservatory to have a few insects passing out and remaining on window sills. The shed is for storage only although I am planning to change to a summer house with a daybed and storage for bikes for keen cyclists. The grass is kept exceptionally short in the long garden leading to the barn , however even though we are on the edge of the beautiful Slindon woods deep in the countryside I do plan to put pavers leading up to the barn for those not used to country life. Apologies it took a few days to rectify the conservatory electrics , as I recall it was a bank holiday and my electrician was not available until the Tuesday. I have had extensive comments on how comfortable the bed is to the point of asking where the mattress and bed were purchased. The sloped ceilings are featured in the property information and part of the charm of a converted stables. I am sorry you found the sloped ceiling difficult to navigate. Once again thank you for your feedback Regards Debs Property Owner

The Barn was very well appointed and the little extras were an added bonus, it really made a difference. We loved taking our meals in the conservatory, where we could watch the wildlife. Great attention to detail, very comfortable and a warm welcome from Debs and Lindsay. Great part of the country. Lots to do without having to travel miles …… and the bed was so comfortable!

  • "Lovely welcome and the fridge has some surprises waiting for us!"

The furnishing were first class, the TV had a wide selection to choose from. A prefect stay for two old codgers, and even managed the stairs when nature called during the night !! The garden birds entertained us whilst eating in the conservatory. The area was perfect for exploring a county we had not visited before. We will definitely return before our days are numbered ! • "Great facility for two in a lovely location very handily near to the A27 yet by beautiful woods for walking."

The extras the owner provides are very thoughtful and all is very dog friendly. Really enjoyed our stay and such a comfortable bed ensured a really great night's sleep all week. Just by way of help, guests need to be aware of the sloped ceiling in the bedroom and steep stairs up to it. The 'freezer' detailed in description is in fact just an icebox in the fridge. That said, these really are not negatives; we loved it and would happily stay again.

  • "Debby made us very welcome on our arrival and showed us around the property."

The barn is a lovely little property and is situated in a very peaceful situation in woods, we found this very handy as we could open the gate in the morning and take our dog straight into the woods. Although quiet and peaceful, a 3 minute drive down the lane takes you straight onto the A27 which is great as you can easily access any areas you wish to visit. The barn itself was very comfortable and well appointed with the added bonus of a nice conservatory, and garden with patio, table and chairs Good pub down the road, and a great village shop which served breakfast. Had a very enjoyable weeks break so 5***** to Debby

Thank you so much Brian , am so please you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the local pub in Eartham and village shop & Cafe. I hope you will all return in the future. Many thanks Debs Property Owner

It is spacious, well equipped and offers a flexible choice of places to eat from the lounge, sun lounge and the patio. The upstairs bedroom has a sloped roof with a spacious and super comfortable bed. The shower which is downstairs provides hot water and is highly effective. The garden is great for four legged friends and was much enjoyed by our pooch and us. We would recommend it to others for its positioning to visit other places, gardens and eateries, too. The host is chatty, informative and kind.

About the location

FONTWELL

Arundel 5 miles; Goodwood 5 miles; Chichester 6 miles; Petworth 11 miles; Worthing 14 miles.

Fontwell is a small hamlet in the heart of the Sussex countryside, made famous by Fontwell Park Racecourse, where in October 1949 Queen Elizabeth II had her first win as the owner of Monaveen. The racecourse is still a popular venue with 23 meetings each year, including the customary Boxing Day race day. Fontwell itself is made up of several scattered cottages and equestrian centres, nestled within Slindon Woods on the edge of the South Downs National Park. Arundel is 5 miles to the east, here visitors are able to tread cobbled streets and explore this pretty market town with its castle and cathedral both set high up on the hills overlooking the River Arun. Arundel also offers quaint shops, art galleries and a number of pubs and restaurants, as well as a monthly farmers’ market, here you can buy local cheeses and breads, along with fruits and cakes, so why not fill your picnic basket and head for the South Downs, or to the coast for a day on the beach. You cannot come to this part of Sussex without visiting Goodwood. With horse racing, motor racing and Goodwood House, a 17th century stately house home to the Duke of Richmond (open to the public from March to October) everyone will have a day to remember. With so much to see and do you will want to return to this Sussex hamlet time and again.
