The Cottage was great but we thought it was not a 4 star rating due to not enough power sockets in living room most of only lights running off extention leads the main problems was low water pressure we had to used a jug to have a shower wash our hair good pebble beach saw the seals get the water sorted out it will be a great place to stay

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are sorry you experienced issues with water pressure whilst at the cottage. The cause of the issue was a failed water pump which has now been replaced and this has rectified the problem. Also the lack of plug sockets you experienced has lead us to book in an electrician who will replace and add additional power points in the very near future and we thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope that despite the above you enjoyed your stay at Seaview cottages and may consider returning one day. Kind regards, Emmeline Property Owner

  • "On entering the property was dismayed by the entrance to the lounge with three steps up and having to keep your head down as there is a low ceiling from the second bedroom, it was like and entrance to a cave, this was not mentioned on the property info, it was nearly as bad as the second bedroom which was very difficult to get to from the stairs, although we didn't use it, I'm surprised Sykes have this property on their books."

As mentioned in the info for the property the stairs are steep and with the bathroom being downstairs is difficult if wanting to go to the toilet at night. The plumbing was noisy every time you went and flushed the toilet as there was a hammering noise for the water, the shower did not work well and the water hammering noise started with the shower being on. Not a lot of storage for food in the kitchen just a shelf. The location of the property was very good with good views out to the sea, we did not get a chance to use the garden because of the weather but looked a bit messy. Parking was made awkward by the next door people parking on our drive which also was not mentioned in the info. We will not be going there again.

It is so welcoming, a true home from home place. Cosy, functional & quiet spot to explore the area & to unwind. It is a cute cottage with the usual issues of steep narrow staircase & low ceilings/doorways giving it all the charm there is. I would not hesitate to return anytime.

Thank you so much for your valuable feedback. We are happy you enjoyed your time at Seaview Cottages and are delighted you would consider returning at some point in the future. With very kind regards, Emmeline Property Owner

It was lovely to watch the seals from our bedroom window each morning and there is so much to do in the area.

Hi Graham, thank you for your comments. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay were able to view the morning 'seal watch' . These are normally very shy creatures but because it's secluded here they feel safe to swim close inshore. At the next changeover we'll make some space in one of the kitchen cupboards for groceries and fit some coat hooks in the alcove. There are some coat hooks in the cupboard inside the back door but I realise these may not be obvious so apologies for that. Kind regards Graham Property Owner

12 hour power cut first day didn't help plus a shorter power cut the next day which was not down to the cottage it was the general area. Surrounding area is a bit like the land that time forgot !. General plumbing could do with improvement especially if you need to use the toilet after someone else has just used it as takes ages to flush again .

  • "The property was lovely and full of old fisherman's cottage charm."

We made good use of the electric log fire and the blankets in the living room during the chilly February evenings. Gorgeous views from the front of the sunrise every morning (unless it was a misty start :) ). Lovely quiet seaview location with a peaceful pebble beach right on the doorstep however easy drive to either Eastbourne, Bexhill on Sea or Hastings for shops and activities. The Star Inn (just across the field footpath) had great food and a warm welcome. Only thing I would improve was perhaps another baking tray in the kitchen and the toilet takes a good while to refill so just be aware if there is a family of you that if someone has just been you will need to wait a while before flushing again. Even that added to the character though :) Lovely little holiday cottage.

We had our breakfast cereal on the beach one morning. The changing levels would present considerable difficulties for some people (unusual large step down onto staircase from twin bedroom) but they do also add to the character of the property. The mattress on the double bed was very comfy but there is a gap between that and the headboard and so something is required to fill the space so pillows don’t slip down. The shower was very good. The water in the hot tap was very hot at times so care was required. Owner was friendly and approachable when we contacted him by phone. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

The close proximity of the train is also fabulous making trips along the course a doddle.

The beds were extremely comfortable indeed. The only problem we had was the low ceilings for my husband and there were some nails sticking down in a beam in the living room which were dangerous for a tall person; probably there to string lights on? We had to remove them for safely. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again now that we know what to expect- my husband got used to ducking!

  • "This is a fantastic peaceful little cottage, we are a family of four, although the kids are now 19 and 21!"

There was plenty of space for all of us, although as stated in the listing the stairs are a little tight. The living room has comfy chairs for 4 with two single seat comfy chairs and a two seat sofa, dining space for four, TV etc and of course wifi throughout which was a reliable 50Mbps during our stay here. Two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other as twin, and both rooms do have doors, (only mentioned the doors as I couldn't see them on the pictures). The kitchen is well equipped and had everything I needed to feed the four of us, and the bathroom looked freshly re-fitted with a lovely large shower over the bath, no signs of age or mould in here. We didn't need any heating whilst we were here, but I can imagine it would be warm and cosy in poor weather with storage heaters and an electric fire in the sitting room. No problems with parking my large car with plenty of turning space, no low walls to worry about as mentioned previously by others, in fact I reckon there is easily space for multiple vehicles. The beach is no more than a 45 second walk from the cottage door and is fantastic for the first coffee of the day or for the Gin at sunset. Graham was a fantastic host, nearby if you needed anything, nothing was too much trouble. The beach is great for all ages, and has plenty of sand when there is a long runoff at low tide, check the height and timing of the tide for this though if it is the sand you want. There is a small group of seals that populate the local area and provide hours of entertainment, and the sea seems rich with sprats and mackerel, we frequently saw shoals of both jumping and when the mackerel chased the sprats on shore the pickings were literally made off the beach. If you enjoy fishing then take your rod to the end of the jetty when the tide is coming in, catches of a dozen or so mackerel in an hour or so seemed to be regular! You can't get much fresher and they were fantastic on the BBQ. Lots to do for all ages in the near vicinity so simple to keep all ages busy, if you don't want to drive then the railway station, a 4 or 5 minute walk away, may be small but seems very well served, we went to Hastings for a day using the train, and at £15 return for 4 adults seemed good value. In summary, a great well equipped cottage, in a lovely location. Would I recommend it, Yes, Would I consider returning, Yes.

The cottage has a second bedroom which would be unsuitable for anyone who is not pretty able-bodied, and hopeless for smaller children as it opens sideways onto a steep staircase through a sort of stair-gate opening onto the stairs. The kitchen equipment was disappointingly below standard - e.g. there was no wooden spoon, no good knife (just a breadknife and a small paring knife and something that looked like a saw), and no kitchen scales which made some of my Christmas catering a bit hit and miss. Main issue was there is no WIFI. Not just that we couldn't get into the WIFI, but it was not available at all. This did not matter to us, but could be important to others. The cottage location, right on the beach was really lovely and the walks along the pebble beach were spectacular. The Star Inn, the local, was a short walk across fields and it produced VERY good food and lovely service.

About the location

NORMANS BAY

Bexhill-on-Sea 4.6 miles; Eastbourne 6.5 miles; Hastings 10 miles; Brighton 20 miles.

The village of Normans Bay, situated between Eastbourne and Bexhill-on-Sea is so named as it was once believed to be the coastline where the Norman invasion took place in 1066, however this area would have been underwater at that time and only became coastal a few centuries ago! Normans Bay offers a pebble beach, which is a magnet for boat owners and fishermen, plus this part of the coastline is also great for windsurfers and kite-flying. Alternatively, sit on the sea wall and admire the views of the South Downs, a wonderful sight especially in the evening as the sun sets. The Star Inn, once a haven for smugglers, is a 10 minute walk away across the Pevensey Levels and offers excellent home cooked food, plus the village even has its own railway, linking the mainline stations along the coast, from where you can visit Eastbourne, Hastings, Brighton and even London. Also four miles west along the coast is the fishing port and yacht haven of Sovereign Harbour, where you can dine on the quayside at one of the many restaurants, cafes or the tapas bar. Inland from Sovereign Harbour is the Crumbles Retail Park with its shops, supermarket, cinema and gym. This part of Sussex is an ideal place to relax and unwind, drink in the sea air and listen to the waves roll in.

Note: This cottage is not suitable for those with limited mobility or children under 5 years of age.
