  • "Comfortable and clean and good value for money."

Nice sized rooms and well equipped. Good location for exploring the South Downs/arundel/coastline, and facilities of Worthing only 10 minutes away. A little tired cosmetically, some broken floor tiles and a bit of paint needed, but these cottages have a hard life, so understandable. Definitely recommended and would stay again.

  • "The countryside view was agricultural land and this did not help with our breathing along with the underfloor heating which was not easy to change."

The kitchen was adequate - no scissors, only one tea towel.and the bowls too high to reach without standing on a chair etc. I expected better toilet seats, not plastic one that skidded all over the bowl. There was a dirty towel in the bathroom. I was disappointed that the owner never welcomed us - he was away in the fields and his wife was working. No note or anything welcoming. Having said that, it was clean and quite comfortable.and we had a phone number if we needed help.

Unfortunately for us the weather was bad with rain everyday but one. We would certainly recommend and would go again. The only one thing what needs to be sorted is the Wi-Fi we could get no signal at all. Apart from that a really lovely place, the dog absolutely loved it.

  • "Cottage itself was lovely and in a great location for exploring and had beautiful views of the countryside."

Having stayed in Sykes Cottages before it was a shame not to get a welcome pack. Occasionally there was a smell of paraffin that came into bathroom and twin room. A screen on the family bath would be useful as water goes everywhere when using the shower over the bath. Hooks on backs of doors would be useful for hanging towels/dressing gowns, a shelf in shower to put gel/shampoo so you don’t have to bend down each time would be useful too. The biggest problem was that the outside rubbish bin hadn’t been emptied after last occupant and was crawling with maggots!!

  • "This is a great property with lovely views but let down by a few things."

As someone previously said, the front door locks gets jammed. There is rust at the bottom of the shower pole and mould on the edge of the shower where the screen hasn't been finished off properly. This is supposed to be a grade 4 property but don't expect fluffy towels and comfortable pillows. We've stayed at many cottages in the past and this is the first time that there hasn't been a pint of milk in the fridge! By far the worst thing was the horrendous smell of paraffin coming from the back of the cottage. We couldn't have any of the windows open at the back of the property because of the smell, which wasn't ideal when we were in the middle of a heatwave.

  • "The Old Dairy was a lovely little cottage but seemed to need a bit of TLC."

The furnishings were of a high standard and very comfortable but the overall cleanliness let it down. There were large cobwebs in quite a few areas, the microwave had bean spots and the oven was dirty. There were only four spoons and forks so using the dishwasher would have been a waste of time. 6 lightbulbs had blown and not been replaced. The shower head holder needs to be fixed to stop the shower head drooping. The owner came to replace the broken rubbish bin and I mentioned a few of the problems. The fuse box door was taped up with black tape, he said it would cost £300 to replace so had left it. Not a good impression.

The cottage is so beautifully located in an extremely quiet position with a beautiful view across cornfields and local walks from the door. If I could say one thing, and it's about the local footpaths. Since lockdown, local people have been discovering and using footpaths in great numbers. That's fine, as long as they clean up their dog-poo, but the amount of dog-mess on the nearby paths was really disgusting. Could the villagers band together to press the local council to provide dog-bins. And shame the dog-walkers into using them.
