  • "We enjoyed our stay in Aultmore."

The property is in a great location and served as a good base for hiking and trips further afield by train. The facilities in the property are okay. The hot water system takes a bit of getting used to - there were only two of us and we had to be careful not to use too much hot water. There wasn’t much information on arrival - a welcome pack would have been useful. All-in-all, we thought it was good value for money.

Op een fijne locatie. Goed gelegen, dichtbij winkels, bezienswaardigheden, wandelstartpunten. Jammer dat er geen vaatwasser is. Tuintje ligt veel hoger en is via steile trap te bereiken. Zeer handig dat er een wasmachine, droogmolen en wasspelden zijn.

The cottage is lovely and exceeded our expectations. It was exceptionally clean, spacious and comfortable, with everything we needed. Kingussie itself has shops, pubs and restaurants all within very easy walking distance. We will certainly re-book if we return to the area.

After you fill a bath just over your legs, it's a battle with cold water all night amd waiting an hour between trying to fill the bath for 2 or more people in the property can become a bit of a hassle. The cleaniness & facilities in cottage were second to none, all in all we had a good stay at Aultmore.

Any queries are super quick answered and solved. Big thank you for that. We would definitely consider to book again.

The cottage is in a great position for lots of attractions in the Cairngorms. The bed was very comfortable. We were a little worried about finding a parking place as it is on street parking, but there was always plenty of room. The slight downside is the very steep steps up to the top of the garden, but the weather was terrible so it didn't bother us!

  • "I had some reservations about this letting because of its location in Kingussie but overall it was a very enjoyable experience."

All our previous stays over the years (decades?) have been out of town, but the Pandemic has seen the prices of those ramped up to ridiculous levels. The house was spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm enough (mid October). The kitchen was well equipped and very user friendly. The shower was a bit of a problem to the one member of our party who had a lot of hair: geography demanding a limited 'spray'. Towels, were grand, beds comfortable and duvets etc good quality and comfy. The fire required a degree of skill beyond mine to avoid the costly error of constant feeding with expensive logs. That is MY problem rather than the house's! The only drawback, really, was the parking which is not quite as described. Parking in the street in front of the house is not advisable and it was necessary to watch out for the odd lay by space across the road. For this one is in competition with the long term residents! This is, of course, by no means a deal breaker and, I gather, Kingussie in the season is not a great place for parking at the best. I seem to have given this more attention than it probably merits but for some, it MIGHT be an issue. Would I go back? certainly. Was it good value for money? certainly, Is it a good advert for Sykes? Certainly. Oh, and communication with the owners before arrival was easy, friendly and helpful. Thank you for (another) great week in Speyside.

Kingussie itself was very disappointing with the available hospitality. This is probably largely as a result of covid but when this is finally back to normal the options to eat out would be poor. The only real highlight was the McInnes hotel where we ate 3 nights out of the 6 where both the Food and service were very good. Otherwise no real options or willingness to accommodate us.

Would be good to either have a 2nd set or have a keybox. Was difficult to go out separately due to this. The fridge is too small and the small freezer compartment wasn't working sufficiently. This meant numerous trips to the shops for supplies as unable to store much. The property is on the main Kingussie road which tended to be noisy from early morning. Overall however the cottage is cosy and well equipped. If the key and fridge issue was sorted we wouldn't hesitate to return.

People should be aware that the cottage was on a busy main road, had to park car on pavement and 1 off our car got bump while parked up outside the cottage, television was too small for room, no where to put groceries and needs replacing was making these go off to quick even though we had turned it up, looking at the pictures on your site is quite deceiving because the garden is over grown and steps very slippery and no handle rail at the top

Thank you for your feedback. We do state on the website that there is only roadside parking available and that there are steps up to the garden and care should be taken. Hope this did not impact on your stay. Many thanks. Property Owner

This worked relatively well. The village has good links up and down the valley (bus and train). Obviously, you have to plan more and there are walks higher in the mountains you can't reach. The vilage has a good butcher and Coop as well as a few cafes and restaurants so being car free did not restrict us in terms of shopping ang eating either. In fact, we felt we had more interaction with village life without it.

  • "We loved the location of this little house."

From kingusse we visited Inverness and Loch Ness. We had two days out walking up the Caingorms at Aveimore which was so pretty covered in snow. Unfortunately , the fenicular mountain railway is shut until at least summer, so we didn't get to ride it but that just meant more walking. We canoed on Loch Morlich where there is a fab beach and water sport facilities with the stunning backdrop of the mountains. We visited Tomatin distillery and had a tour. We visited kingusse wildlife park which was interesting but expensive we felt. Impressed that they have the only polar bear cub to be born in the UK in 25 yrs, and they have a great compound there. My husband and myself were fine with the house and would stay again or recommend it, however our 20 yr old daughter found the heating of water a trial. There are storage heaters overnight which we all felt kept the house warm just right in the day. But there was meant to be a tank full of hot water in the mornings, which was lukewarm and we had to keep putting the booster time switch on for a bit, to ensure one of us never ended up short of hot. It just took more time to get ready and out in mornings. In the evenings you could make a fire and the back boiler would boost the hot water but we only had the first three nights chilly enough for needing the fire, as in the last week of April we had great, sunny warm weather. For our first visit to Scotland we were pleased with the house, the area and all of the places we went. We will return, and if we wanted to visit more in this area would use Aultmore house again. In Newtonmore up the road, we had a lovely meal in a little restaurant called the letterbox, which we would recommend but book ahead.

Lovely walks nearby and good rail access to the Highlands, two very nice local cafe/coffee shops in the village. There was no welcome pack i.e. bread & milk which would have been helpful as we arrived by train late in the evening after the co-op shop had closed, however plenty of fuel for the wood burning stove was provided in a wood store outside the back door which was great. Pleasantly surprised to find that the over bath shower was very modern and powerful. Overall a very enjoyable winter break with the highlight being a trip on the Cairn Gorm funicular railway and watching skiers from the comfort of the viewing area at the top.

    G. a "shower over bath" listing gave me the impression of a rather basic "crouch in the bath and hose yourself down" type of facility but in fact the shower was perfect it simply wasn't in a free standing shower tray. The owner contacted us by text before arrival, by phone when we turned up, and again by text when we were leaving - friendly and concerned on every occasion. Some winter cottages leave only a very mean fire starter supply of a few pieces of kindling and a handful of logs. Aultmore provided plenty of fuel (which actually we were happy replenish). Our only note of discomfort was the cold kitchen but then we were there over the coldest winter in Scotland for the past 30 years so we are not complaining. I would have no hesitation in recommending Aultmore to anyone looking to get into the highlands but avoid the commercial atmosphere of Aviemore.
