"Fab family weekend."
Well equipped house in excellent location. Would certainly come back again and recommend
-
"Alvey House is in a very convenient location within walking distance of the station and the shops and local pub the Glen are all within easy walking distance."
Newtonmore is a great base being close to the main A9 road. All the bedrooms have their own bathroom which is perfect for a large family and friends group. The large dining table is a great gathering point for sharing the day’s stories. The kitchen and utility room are spacious and well equipped with plenty of fridge space and a large freezer. Some of the bedrooms are quite small which is clearly pointed out in the details. The house is comfortably and attractively furnished and decorated and our group immediately felt at home. The house owner was prompt and helpful providing house details and the housekeeper did a great job preparing the house for our arrival.

"19 of us from 3 generations aged 78 to 9 months spent a very happy week at Alvey House for our annual "family holiday" Well situated a short walk from the town but private, and lovely views."
House was very well equipped and furnished and easily able to cope with all of us, and the owner provided a travel cot and high chair when we enquired. The children were secure in the garden at the back and we saw red squirrels, many birds and varieties of toadstools. Easy access to the A9 to visit Aviemore etc. but locally less touristy.Nobody wanted to leave, as it was probably the best rental we have found in 25 years of holidaying together. It was also one of the cheapest in recent years!

"Great property, very good value for money."
Very comfortable with simple furniture, which made the home even more comfortable (very relaxed as there was no fear of damaging any valuable furniture). The kitchen was very well equipped. We really appreciated having 2 cookers, huge fridges, 1 extra big freezer. As we had booked the home for 2 weeks, we made good use of the fully equipped laundry room. The garden, with a gorgeous view on one side, is also very pleasant; the younger ones enjoyed watching the rabbits and squirrels. The property is very well situated with the Co-op only 7 minutes on foot and open 7 days a week, the railway station also only 7 minutes on foot. Geraldine was an attentive but very discreet host: As the house was perfect, we didn't need to call on her. BTW Geraldine, we really appreciated the welcoming bouquet with lilies and roses in the dining room. Thank you. One last point worth mentioning: The house is very well noise-insulated: early risers never disturbed the late sleepers (and the other way around in the evening).

"This is a beautiful house with everything you need at your fingertips and plenty to do within a few miles of it ."
-
"The property was exactly as we expected and a bit more, ideal location and excellent facilities for our group, everything was well explained."
We were there for a golfing holiday, with an abundance of courses within easy distance. Great outdoor space which due to chilly weather we didn’t get to make as much use as we would have liked. Will definitely return.
-
"The house is ideally located in the village, great for walks, cafes and near other lovely villages."
Very spacious and comfortable with all the facilities you need. We did find the numerous fire doors made going through the house quite difficult, and the downstairs bathroom has no lock. Two of our group have mobility issues and, while there are 2 downstairs bedrooms, they couldn't access either the narrow shower or the over bath shower in these rooms. We still liked the house, though, and really enjoyed our stay.
-
"Clean, well-presented, well-equipped property."
The only downside was the dog mess at the bottom corner of the garden facing the street - assumption being that a previous visitor did not clear it up rather than it being dogs coming in from outside the property. Nonetheless, an enjoyable week was had by all and we would consider a return visit.
-
"So enjoyed our stay - beautiful house in a lovely position We will return xxx"
-
"So lovely our group keeps coming back - our sixth year!"
-
"Lovely house with lots of space."
Owners responded quickly to questions and went above and beyond to make us comfortable.
-
"Third time for our walking group of friends at this great property."
Plenty space for preparing and eating food. Very comfortable and relaxing stay. Thank you!
-
"What a wonderful cottage, we had 3 generations and extended family all stay."
House was very comfy with lots of space for everyone. Kitchen was excellent and very well stocked with equipment to feed a large group. The owners were brilliant with communication and extremely accommodating. The area is just beautiful with lots of walks to enjoy with the dog. Cannot fault this property.

"The house was perfect for us."
Its a little dated, but felt very homely. The bedrooms all having ensuites, made getting 11 people ready at the same time a breeze. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. The two lounges were again comfortable and clean; the TV package, books & dvd selection great for quiet times. The dining room easily seated us all and the kitchens had everything we needed. Definitely recommend this property. Newtonmore itself is a great location, we've stayed in the area a number of times over the years. The Wildcat Walk is good fun to do ovee a few days and there are plenty of other walks. Aviemore is around 20 minutes drive away, with loads to do there. The Reindeer Experience is excellent. We hired quad bikes this year, which everyone enjoyed. I can't remember the company name, but it's advertised on billboards in Aviemore. We took an hours rib ride across Loch Ness, with Beastie Boats, which was absolutely brilliant! Food wise, The Glen does good bar food and The Balavil has an excellent restaurant, with good vegan options. We had a lovely breakfast and lunch at The Antler tearoom and delicious coffee and cakes at The Wilde Flour. We collected fish and chips from Joe's Chippy in Kingussie one evening, with everyone really enjoying their meal. The co-op has a good range of products, around an 8 minute walk away, plus there's a large Tesco and Aldi in Aviemore.

"2ND TIME AT THIS PROPERTY."
WE LOVE IT.
-
"What a wonderful property for a large family gathering."
It appears to have previously been a B&B, so all the bedrooms bar one are en-suite which is grand. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the house is large but so very warm and cosy. Three sitting areas meant there was more than enough space for 16, aged 4 to 80! The dining room became the hub for us all. The kitchen is really well equipped and modern. The outside space is lovely and enclosed for the dog and small children. Lots of parking. The owners are so very kind and thoughtful. There was champagne, flowers and a lovely card for my in-laws celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Walks from the door, a wee wander up the high street, and jump in the car and you’ve all the wonderful places in the National Park to explore. Would highly recommend and we’ll be back! Thanks to the owners again for such a warm welcome.

"The kitchen was superbly equipped and was a joy to cook in."
We couldn't quite work out the right hand dishwasher but weren't sure if it was the appliance or us that was at fault! When there was a minor problem this was dealt with very quickly which was impressive. All the rooms were comfortable and there is loads of space for people to do their own thing. Not having tv in both rooms is a really good idea. If more recycling space could be arranged that would be an improvement but overall this may well be the best self catering accommodation I've stayed in and I've been doing this for 40 years.

"Stunning property in a beautiful part of the Cangorians."
House is lovely and spacious as is the garden.. the villages is beautiful and residents are very friendly. There the wildcat experience in the village you pay £ 10 for the pack ( which goes back to the local charity) Had a lovely day looking for cats.. and the residents will help you. I do recommend you buy the pack early on as there are around 127 to find.. need a couple of days to find them all, but really good fun. Highly recommended this property Simply stunning and extremely helpful owners.

"This is a great house for a gathering of friends or relatives."
From the location to the en-suites for every room to the spotlessness of the whole place, everything is perfect.
-
"What a beautiful and very well resourced house!"
We had everything we needed for a fabulous family holiday. Will certainly recommend!!
-
"Brilliant. Couldnt fault it at all."
15 of us ranging from 5 to 62. So much to see and do. Recommend to anyone.
-
"A wonderful place to stay to meet up with old friends and explore the beautiful area."
Stunning views. Lots to do in the area. Super comfy beds, clean, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. From the 2 year old to the adults in the group, we all loved it.
-
"Alvey house is absolutely beautiful, it has a very homely feel and it has everything you need in that there was enough of everything."
Newtonmore is a gorgeous village and if you didn’t want to travel it has all the amenities that you want. It is easy ti get from A to B plus a train station which we used. Just wonderful and the weather was beautiful and we came home very chilled. There were 12 of us and we all felt there was enough space for everyone. 5 stars all the way
-
"Second time at this property."
Highly recommended. Great for a large group as 2 kitchens and long dining room table that could comfortably accommodate us all. Very helpful communications with owner before and during our stay. A third visit likely!
-
"Fantastic House with amazing view Highly recommend !"

"We had a brilliant time on holiday at Alvey house."
Very clean, comfortable home, with all the facilities an extended family of 16 needed. Plenty of space to spread out and come back together as well. Kitchen has all the utensils we needed and we would have no hesitation in recommending Alvey house. The Sykes website needs updating as not everything mentioned there was actually in the house, ( 2 TV's, no breakfast bar in kitchen) it made no difference to us but may to other families. Brilliant holiday, brilliant house.
-
"A mixed party of 15 friends (plus dog) stayed for 4-night short break whilst hill walking in the area."
The property was absolutely ideal for our purposes with the added bonus that all but one of the rooms was en suite. The dining room sat us all in comfort and the kitchen was well equipped. We were blessed with good weather and we made use of the outside patio furniture at the end of the day to soak up the last rays of the sun. Would have no hesitation in recommending the property to others and are seriously thinking about rebooking for next year already.
-
"We stayed at Alvey House for 3 nights to celebrate an 80th birthday."
There were 18 of us and we all had a wonderful time. The house was lovely and clean and very cosy, the real fire was enjoyed by all in the evenings. The kitchen has everything you could need for a large group and the en suites in the rooms are great. Beautiful views of the hills from the house too and lovely outdoor space. Would definitely book this property again.
-
"Beautiful house with plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable."
We’ll equipped with everything you could need and spotlessly clean. We all had a wonderful stay and would recommend the property for any large group.
-
"The house was amazing."
Situated in a great place.

"Having read a previous review from July 2021 from Mrs P, I have to say I was worried that I’d made a mistake in booking this property, but my fears were completely allayed, when our group of 15 arrived."
This property was perfect, no dirt, exceptionally clean and every bedroom was appointed beautifully, with bed linen & towels supplied. The photos do not do this property justice. Superb kitchen facilities (two) with everything you could ever want, down to the tea, coffee & sugar canisters being full. Some very nice touches were left for our group, fresh flowers on the dining table, a nice bottle of 15yr old spirit & shortbread. It was those small details which went a long way to making us feel very welcome. There is WiFi in the property and the signal is better at the front of the house (downstairs) and although Sky TV was available in the second lounge room, the signal seemed to struggle in the back bedroom & freeview was a bit intermittent, but then again we’d come away on holiday to get away from TV, so perhaps that’s a good thing. The location of the property is great, with some lovely views and walking to the local amenities was good, although due to COVID, numbers were restricted at some restaurants, The Glen Hotel being one, give at least 48hrs if you want to book a table for a large group. The local Co-op had plenty of supplies though. Everyone in our group, aged 17 - 87 have all said that Alvey House is great and would definitely come back. It was a perfect place, but I don’t want to recommend it for anyone else, it’s a secret best kept.

"The house was extremely dirty, dust in glasses cupboard, doors and wood all dirty had to wipe down some frame work and handles, windows inside and out very dirty, some bedroom carpets marked."
The windows were dirty inside and you could not see out of some of them, months of grime and marks on them, cleaned a few. Dead flies in a lot of the rooms on the window sills and floors. Bedroom and main bathroom both looked like there has been water leaks with parts of the ceiling coming down, in bedroom the bits that had fallen down were left behind the room door. Back door outside light did not work, so pitch black when going out the back last thing at night. One of the bedroom was not able to be used as previous occupants had broken the toilet, not attempt to have repaired whilst we were there, meaning we had only 8 bedrooms when booked a 9 bedroom house. A note was let to tell us about the broken bathroom and stated that there was still ample rooms/beds for our size of party. Only we knew our sleeping requirements/arrangements. The house and decor is very tired and not what we expected at all, really in need of upgrading and some TLC,simple things/details as well like in the dining room on one curtain had a tie back. The curtains in the tv room were dirty and you could feel the dirt on them Overall a real shame as the location, view and size of the property all fantastic.

"Perfect for group Motorcycle holidays"
-
"This is the second time we have stayed at Alvey House and again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here."
Would highly recommend it to any large group to use it after the Co-vid crisis is over.
-
"Comfortable house in commanding position."
Good location in pleasant village. Lots to do for activity lovers but also restful.
-
"This has been my third time to Alvey House, and it has provided a very relaxing break once again."
The owners keep making improvements, and it is now a very comfortable and cosy place to stay, and in an ideal location for us. We intend to come back again.
-
"Absolutely loved Alvey House."
It has everything you need and more. The house was spotless and very well kept. We will definitely return.
-
"We had a lovely family experience at Alvey house."
There were 15 adults and 2 children but it didn't feel crowded as there was plenty of space for all of us. We loved the large dining table where we could all eat together. The only small criticism would be that as the weather was getting colder there was not enough coal provided. We had an elderly mum and a couple of guests with health issues who felt the cold and loved to sit in the lounge with the fire lit. We were however able to purchase coal at the local co-op. The area is lovely and we found plenty to do. We would definitely consider returning to Alvey house.
-
"We are a local history group who go away for 4 nights in September every year and we all agreed that Alvey House was one of the best we have stayed in."
-
"Staying at Alvey was very enjoyable for the eight of us."
It's great location in the center of Scotland.
-
"Great house!"
We were a group of friends who regularly spend a week in Scotland for hill-walking. The house was an ideal size with very comfortable bedrooms and plenty space across the 2 kitchens for a large group to manage evening cooking and morning breakfast/prep of packed lunches. With everyone having their own toilet/shower there was no queuing for facilities and we were never short of hot water. Really appreciated having a large dining room and table that gave everyone plenty space and a good view too. Easy to pop out to the local Co-op and lots to do on our doorstep when the weather wasn't so great for doing Munros.
-
"Alvey House was the perfect venue for a weekend away for our party of 7 couples."
Each couple had a very comfortable room with their own ensuite bathroom. The whole house was spotless clean from top to bottom, and the views of the Cairngorm mountains from the front of the house are simply stunning. The house has plenty of room for entertaining, whether it be in the lounge with the open fire, or the huge dining room with a table which easily accommodated our party of 14. With a 5min walk from the town all hotels/pubs and shops are within easy reach. All in all, we had a fantastic weekend and are hoping to make a return visit next year.
-
"We went to this property for a family celebration and it was perfect for that."
The whole family enjoyed the provision of a property that was so well placed for numerous attractions and was itself situated in gorgeous surroundings. All rooms but 1 were en-suite - the one without its own bathroom was only a short distance from the family bathroom. All the beds were comfortable - a very pleasant surprise. The double kitchen was a particular hit with us - and the 2 dishwashers made life so much easier. We felt we had seldom been to a better appointed house - everything we wanted was provided. There was no TV in the main sitting room (though there was one in the small sitting room) and not all rooms had their own TV - no problem for us but may be for some holidaymakers. The only other observation we'd make was the lacl of power in the showers - not a problem, just a wee disappointment. We loved Alvey House and hope to return for our next family celebration.
-

"The house was perfect in terms equipment, comfort and of location with lots to see and do in the vicinity."
The back garden was well fenced so not even the discerning small dog or child could escape. We all had a wonderful holiday and Alvey House definitely played a big part in the enjoyment.
-
