  • "The property was extremely clean and welcoming."

There was a lovely tray of goodies which we thoroughly enjoyed (especially the Tunnocks Tea Cakes) and everything we needed was there. The shower has great pressure and the towels were lovely, soft and fluffy. All in all a very comfortable stay. Thank you!

Loch Morar is about 200 m walk and is huge, pretty river close by as well, 2 Miles from Mallaig ,ferry's to the small isles and to Skye operate from here. Mallaig has an awesome artisan bakery on the old pier which will become addictive once visited .Will definitely be coming back for another visit.Highly recommended.

Thank you very much for such a lovely review, and we look forward to you staying with us again. Property Owner

  • "The property was very well equipped, spacious and comfortable."

However, it could not be described as cosy as every room has wooden floors, easy for management but hard on the feet. We were reluctant to ask for the heating to be put on in June, but it definitely felt chilly. We were aware of the issue about the all-enclosing hedge, but the potential for lovely views down to Loch Morar is sorely missed. The cottage is well placed for exploring the area but it just lacks a bit of character and homeliness.

Thank you for your feedback. Wooden floors are a bit like marmite, you love them or hate them, many of our guests for various reasons love them. However we are confused when you say you were reluctant to ask for the heating to be put on. Our cottage guests have complete control of the heating as written in the information sheet…. “The control box is on the right as you enter the cottage. The heating times are at 8.00am to 10.00am and again in the evening 6.00pm to 10.30pm. If you require the heating at any other time just press the manual button, however please remember to press the auto button if you are going out or going to bed”. We appreciate your sentiments, but we do not like any guests to be cold and only wish you had thought to mention it to either myself, Mike or in fact our son during one of your chats during the week and we could have reassured you and assisted you in operating the heating controls. As previously mentioned, the hedge acts as both a windbreak and for privacy and will largely remain, although we are currently in discussions to have the Loch end of the hedge reduced. Character and homeliness are personal choices however we do aim to provide a light, clean, modern property as a base to explore the area. Property Owner

  • "The patio doors were not correctly secured."

Also the double glazed glass in these doors was blown, therefore obscuring the beautiful view. Nice location, but didn’t realise it was so close to someone’s home/house garden etc. Plenty to do in the area.

Thank you for your feedback. Regarding the security of the patio doors, we can only assume someone had not secured the bolt on the left hand door. If you had expressed your concern at the time (when you stayed just over 2mths ago) we would have had the opportunity to check and rectify it for you. Despite our best efforts, due to our location we are unable to get the glass replaced until the end of the season. The weather plays a big part and many of our guests have still been able to enjoy an unobscured view. As you have mentioned and as stated in Sykes description, the property is next door to our own…. “A spacious bright, detached cottage situated next door to the owner's home”. This does mean there is always someone on hand to deal with any small issues if the guest brings it to our attention whilst staying. Property Owner

The welcome hamper was most generous. The location near Loch Morar(250m) was ideal for evening walks after strenuous days exploring. Saw lots of wildlife red deer, an eagle further down the Loch. Visited Isle of Rum loved the peace and splendour of the scenery. A good jumping of point for the ferries to the outer Hebrides. We had a great holiday. Thanks.

It was almost impossible to get a second car into the parking areas when another large car was there.

Thank you for your feedback. The hedge gives complete privacy and acts as a wind break for those who wish to sit in the garden. You are still however able to see the surrounding hills and mountains. The driveway allows parking for two vehicles in addition their is space for a further two/three vehicles on our private land outside the property. Property Owner

The location is second to none, with the loch a very short walk away, hotel bar nearby and amazing hidden beaches. Kayaking over to the large wooded islands in the loch was such an adventure. Mallaig has everthing you need for shopping only 2 mile drive. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to others. I would just suggest a mattress topper for the double bed for more comfort. The garden is spacious and a lovely place to sit out with a view of the mountains behind, we often saw deer in the garden behind the cottage. Would love to return as there is so much more to explore.....!

Short drive to Mallaig. Good for walks and close to Silver Sands of Morar. Beds were very uncomfortable, creaking and mattresses need to be replaced immediately. We noticed that other previous residents have complained about them. We were excited to see deer in our garden. Be prepared for a complete detox from the internet and telephone. You may enjoy that or get frustrated without internet access. Be prepared for poor network coverage. It would have been nice to have some bread, milk and eggs in the fridge, and some tea bags and coffee sachets.

For this amount of money it’s the least you would expect. We were happy with everything except this. It was disappointing because we paid a lot to have lumpy mattresses and headboards that weren’t properly attached. But the location was excellent and the space was a good size with a great garden.

Nicely located to be away from the bustling tourist areas but still close enough to things like the beaches and ferries. Wonderful owners who left us to our own devices but were on hand to help when we did things like lose the WiFi password! The cottage had books, DVDs and board games for a rainy day and was well supplied with things like cutlery, crockery, loo roll, towels and other bits and pieces. Extremely clean and tidy too, with a lovely lawn out back for the Children to play outside. Only thing that could have made it more perfect was a hot tub. Really relaxing holiday, would absolutely recommend this wee gem.

The facilities are adequate. The only really negative comment being the need to instal an additional twin socket for the washing machine and dryer, as at present an extension lead needs to used. There is an allocated patio, that looks out over a pleasant garden. The owners live on the ground floor of the main house with a holiday flat upstairs. There is also a static caravan on site, which the owners use.

Mike was very helpful and kind. However, there were some disappointments with the cottage. We used the washer and dryer and found the dryer vent laying on the floor behind the dryer. So, while we were sitting there in the living room/kitchen the dryer was venting into the air around us. The window was sealed and we were unable to open it for ventilation. We had to open the sliding door and it was raining out and chilly. Also, there weren't any hooks or shelves in the bathroom for hanging wet towels. If those two things were improved upon I would give this cottage a 5 star rating.

The setting is brilliant. As there were three of us I did find the kitchen area slightly small with not a lot of worktop space but we managed ok. As we don't drive it was great having the train station close by and Loch Morar is fantastic, just a couple of minutes away. Just walking by the loch or wandering up to the station we saw plenty of wildlife, mainly deer. There are quite a few different walks including both sides of the beach with its white sands not many minutes away. A stunning cottage and area and we would love to go back.
