  • "The cottage was cosy and comfortable, in an idyllic setting."

The cottage was warm and toasty, we put the heaters on and at night we lit the woodburning stove . There was everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We didn't see a list of dos and donts just a folder with helpful advice.

Many thanks for your Feedback Robert. Pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and found it warm and toasty. I agree with you the setting is idyllic especially when you can have otters, deer and beavers right on your doorstep. I hope youo wil visit again in the summer months Property Owner

  • "Crinan cottage was in itself a perfect base but the list of do's and don'ts was disturbing."

They were meant to be helpful but instead were worrying. We were always concerned when trying to warm the place up we didn't bother. We were so cold and uncomfortable we left at 6am on the Wednesday and returned home. I left my Mobile Phone on the coffee table and phoned the owner to see what could be done. I have had no word since. Not even a call to say it was or wasn't there. I've since blocked it and bought a new one. We have been associated with Sykes for a long time now and recommended the firm to several people. However this experience has created doubt on any future relationship.

I was aware that this elderly gentleman had already planned to leave either Wednesday or Thursday to attend a funeral down south. On Thursday whilst I was driving to Glasgow for a hospital appointment on the Friday, I received a call from this gentleman to say that he had now left and that he thought he had left his mobile phone in the kitchen and could I post it back to him. I explained that it would be Friday late before I was back home and I would collect it on Saturday at change over and also said that the local sub post office would be closed anyway - by that time his feedback had been posted. This gentleman has also become confused thinking that the folder containing the instructions for the appliances was a Do's and Don'ts folder. I do not recall having a list as such - only one giving the necessary information for the visitors containing the wi-fi code, parking and bin collection. I felt that there was no need for me to leave any of the five wall panels on as the house was warm from the sun streaming in and the previous guests. If they were cold, why did not switch any of the radiators on or light the already set log fire - matches and firelighters provided. Please read my many previous feedbacks which are all positive Property Owner

  • "An excellent holiday cottage."

Well placed for the wonderful archaeology and wildlife of Scotland's west coast. A five minute drive at dusk and we saw wild beavers, also the internationally important archaeological sites around Kilmartin are only a short drive away. Plenty of other wildlife; eagles, red squirrels, goshawk, sea ducks and woodland birds. The Atlantic rainforests are an amazing place to see ferns, mosses and fungi. Pauline was probably the most attentive host we have stayed with, thanks for all your help.

Thank you so much Graham for your amazing feedback and I am really pleased that you managed to to pack so much into your week here and I do look forward to having you back again to complete your studies. Property Owner

The location was ideal to explore the surrounding canal paths and forests. Also it was a short drive from Oban, Inveraray and Campbelltown which we visited. Pauline (our host) was very helpful both before and during our stay with suggestions of the local attractions and places to eat. Despite being winter the cottage was warm and the log fire created a cosy atmosphere. We are looking forward to returning during the spring- summer time to explore more of this beautiful part of the world.

The owner was lovely and couldn't do enough for us when we had an upset with neighbour a few doors down concerning our dogs. The area as a whole is great, path right onto canal. Tried the local pub at end of road for lunch and loved the vegetarian options.

The Clematis and Honeysuckle which would have been in full flower and actually belongs to my neighbour and is absolutely beautiful - most visitors comment on it and also the perfume it gives off, once the blooms have died down sadly it gets cut down by my neighbour. I am pleased I managed placate the upset with the neighbour due to your dogs being allowed to run about without a lead during lambing season - when all dogs have to be kept on leads in the country. Owner was very helpful and kept in touch through lead up to the holiday. Cottage was very clean and well stocked. The log fire was very necessary as electric heating keeps off the chill but you need the heat of the fire when the temperature outside drops. Parking was always OK and the neighbours were very friendly. Our two little dogs had a very enjoyable stay.

I am really pleased that you all enjoyed your holiday - especially your little doggies and sister. as you all have waited so long for this holiday. You have just experienced the coldest week in years even though the sun was out during the day and dry the temperature did drop at night and great to hear that the new log fire came up to expectations. • "We've just had a fantastic week at Crinan Canal Cottage."

The cottage is in a fantastic location, really close to brilliant places to visit, down a peaceful lane beside the canal. The cottage was great, just what we wanted. It was clean, warm (we were there for a wet week in winter) and comfortable with everything in excellent condition and well maintained. It had all of the facilities to make it a great home for the week - wood burning stove, room heaters, washer, dish washer, cooker, fridge, tv etc. The owner has been brilliant throughout, sending useful information such as potential places to visit before our stay and even a couple of updates on where was open whilst we were there (handy for January and during a pandemic). Nina our dog loved the cottage and location too. We'd happily go back and recommend it to anyone.

Eleanor, many thanks for your fantastic feedback - which is much appreciated especially as you said for a rather wet week here in Argyll. I am also pleased that you found the information sent useful - when most of the places were closed. I look forward to welcoming you both and not forgetting your four legged friend Nina back at some point when you can really see what the Crinan Canal has to offer. • "Lovely stay, the cottage was warm and cosy, even without the woodburner but this was a bonus and we did use it in the evening."

It is well equipped and a really convenient location for amenities and walks. My only slight issue and only reason for not giving 5 stars for everything was the mattress; I struggle with my back and found it a quite lumpy and uncomfortable but it wouldn't put me off staying again I would just take my own pillows & supports next time. The owner was really friendly and helpful, giving us lots of information and recommendations for things to do. We even had some good weather and the dog loved being in the enclosed garden in the sun. The green that separates the cottages from the canal road was great for exercising the dog on too and meant you weren't coming out of the cottage straight onto the road which was great.

Thank you for your feedback. I was sorry that you found the mattress uncomfortable due the fact that you struggle with your back. Rest assured the mattress was replaced in April 2021. Property Owner

It is less than 100m from the Crinan Canal towpath which leads to great walks in the surrounding forests, in turn leading to stunning and ever-changing views across Loch Crinan and Mòine Mhór. An interesting afternoon looking at the archeology around Kilmartin (unfortunately the museum was closed for renovation) as well as wandering around the 19th Century canal, which is still in good working order. Seafood at the Crinan Hotel and the Tayvallich Inn, only a short trip by car, was unmissable! Overall, an excellent base for a relaxing break.

The cottage was very comfortable and had everything anyone could want, including a log fire if the evenings are cold. KILMARTIN

Crinan 7 miles; Lochgilphead 8 miles; Tarbert 21 miles; Oban 30 miles.

The village of Kilmartin sits at the heart of Kilmartin Glen, one of the most important prehistoric sites on the Scottish mainland. In the area there are rock carvings, standing stones, burial cairns and the remains of the Iron-Age fort at Dunadd, the home of the first kings of Scotland. Kilmartin is home to a church, pub, a castle and the Kilmartin House Museum with visitor centre next door, housing a café. The town of Lochgilphead is eight miles away, offering a good selection of cafes and small shops selling a range of goods, foods and crafts, while the village of Inveraray, home to the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, is within driving distance. Close by is Crinan Canal, which is surrounded by the stunning scenery of Argyll and Bute. From end to end the canal is nine miles long, and its sheltered waters make it an ideal place for beginners and the more experienced paddlers to explore. There are beautiful walks to be enjoyed throughout the area from Kilmichael Forest, to those at Port Ann and Dunardry and up over the hill from the stoney beach at Crinan Ferry, from where you can look out over Jura and north towards Mull.
