Not quite as cosy as it looked in the photos. Well fitted kitchen, no problem cooking.Excellent washer and drier. Lots of hot water and good showers. Central heating which we needed at times. Warm comfy beds. Bigger towels and bathmats would be appreciated. Some sort of lighting between hall and landing maybe a double switch? Enjoyed our stay, beautiful views, a beautiful island and some amazing walks.

  • "This was our second visit to Bayview."

In our opinion Bayview is a perfect holiday home. It’s super comfortable, really thoughtfully set up, well equipped and located in a peaceful rural setting. It offers a comfortable base for a relaxing getaway or exploring Skye. Murdo, Bayview’s owner, and Claire, Bayview’s housekeeper, were outstanding. They responded very quickly and helpfully to all our queries and really went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. Bayview is in Fiskavaig, around 4 miles further along a quiet road from the Talisker distillery, Carbost, which itself is around 3 miles from the Fairy pools. Despite being so close to two big tourist attractions most tourists don’t have any reason to travel beyond the Talisker distillery so Fiskavaig is really quiet with no light or noise pollution (coming from the city we really appreciated both). We all got super undisturbed sleeps as a result. Bayview is located at a beautiful bay (5 mins walk to the beach) with silver grey sands when the tide is out, rock pools and beautiful views across to Macleod’s Tables. The house itself is very well equipped. There’s a very useful dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer indoors high dry and washing line outside. The kitchen has everything we could think of for cooking. We arrived with a few bags of our favourite foods and popped them away in the under counter fridge and separate under counter freezer. We topped up groceries at the local community shop in Carbost and Coop in Portree. We visited the local pub/restaurant, Taigh Ailean in neighbouring Portnalong, twice for dinner - it was fabulous. We booked tables in advance and they also do take away. We had an early dinner from nearby The Oyster Shed in Carbost one night and took it down to the picnic benches in Carbost. Super seafood and a breathtaking view of the Cuillins along Loch Harport. Bayview’s lounge has big comfy reclining and rocking chairs, ideal for movie nights or just relaxing with a book. There are a selection of dvds in the house and we also took a few of our own. The upstairs shower has piping hot water which we loved and there’s also a full bathroom downstairs too. The heating makes the house really cosy and comfortable. We used the two main bedrooms upstairs, both looking into the bay. One has a lovely view of MacLeod’s Tables and the other a seastack and lighthouse without leaving your bed. We saw lots of wild birds visiting the garden and loved the rope swing. There’s a picnic bench in the garden for dining or sitting outside. The clear skies, weather permitting, allowed us to see some amazing stars and glorious sunsets. A super home for a family holiday. We can’t recommend Bayview highly enough, didn’t want to leave and hope to come back soon!

  • "The listing says it is a mile to the pub."

This is untrue - the pub is near the shop; about 3 miles away. The double bed mattress is not a comfortable mattress. There was no welcome pack. A few board games or similar would have been nice. How about a bird feeder for the garden.

Thank you for your comments. It is a mile to the nearest pub and 3 miles to the next one. https://www.taighailean.scot/ Taigh Ailean is the local bar and restaurant a mile from the house and has been reopened since 17th May 2021 when it was allowed to. Therefore the listing is accurate . The next pub is The Old Inn Carbost which is indeed 3 miles away near the shop as you suggested. I have never provided a welcome pack nor does it suggest there is one. I have always felt that anyone arriving to a more remote place would be stocked up on food and drink. • "This is a beautiful spot."

The view is amazing. The little rocky bay just a 2 minute walk away is great, we enjoyed regular swims, fishing and exploring. There is plenty to do in Skye and we had a really enjoyable week with our 3 kids 8-14 exploring and relaxing. It was also very sunny! The cottage had everything we needed and more, comfy beds and sofas. A well equipped kitchen. Everything worked well. Thank you.

  • "Staying at Bayview House gave us our best family holiday ever."

The weather helped (dry, sunny, warm/hot and just enough wind to keep the midges at bay) but everything else was due to our accommodation and its location. The house itself was really comfortable (the photos didn't do justice to the immensely comfortable, reclining chairs in the lounge; and we've never slept better on holiday than in the Bayview House beds - although one of them did squeak a bit). It was also really well-equipped (our kids loved the swing!). But more than all that, the location was superb. The views from the house, including of glorious sunsets at this time of year, and the ever-changing beach as the tide went in and out, were magnificent. And it's perfectly-located to give peace and quiet (we never heard any neighbours) but without a sense of isolation (there are houses nearby), and just 10-15 minutes' drive from a pub/restaurant, shop and cafe. Thanks for a great holiday.

It was well equipped, especially the kitchen (but would be nice to have a clothes airer for when the Scottish weather doesn’t allow use of the washing line!) and the bench outside is a nice touch. Due to COVID there was no information available at the property, however this was not an issue as the owner was incredibly helpful, even taking time to explain the history of the cottage as well as going above and beyond to call the next day to ensure we had sorted out the heating. The two main bedrooms were a lovely size with views over the bay although the third one would be suitable for a child only. The cottage is quite central to all the main attractions on Skye.

In all other areas, we were very happy with the Cottage, its aspect, and its facilities. Our disappointment was in the size of the single bedroom. It was simply not large enough for an adult, or adolescent, and is more suited to a child. As I say, the dbl bedroom and twin bedded rooms were absolutely fine, but the single room was cramped and awkward for an adult to sleep, and move around in with any reasonable degree of comfort.

The view from the house on Fiskavaig Bay is breathtaking! Skye is great for walking, visiting historic sites, (Dunvegan, Fairy Glen), lovely villages, restaurants and the Talisker distillery (close to Bayview House).
