  • "Fantastic, relaxing stay at Jubilee Cottage."

It's a lovely clean cottage, with stunning views. The owners were lovely, very helpful, and everyone really enjoyed the cake and shortbread. We'd really love to come back and stay again and explore the island some more, hopefully we'll stay for longer next time.

Especially loved sitting comfortably in the conservatory looking at the stunning views. The log burner was a bonus as our week was wetter and colder than expected. Very cosy cottage. Lots of waterfalls visited not just the popular fairy pools, all absolutely beautiful. Very friendly owners. Thank you

  • "What a special place, set at the very end of the village, with the sea lapping outside."

Our hosts Martin and Lisa could not have been more welcoming, not mentioning the warm lemon drizzle cake and shortbread (both to die for) upon arrival. The cottage has a warm, homely feel and provides a quiet haven on a quite busy island. Each evening you can relax with a dram or two and simply watch the ever changing seascape outside your window.

  • "Location is excellent."

Property is clean and well appointed. Generally a nice place to stay. One small bathroom so this may be an issue for larger parties staying in this property. Surrounding area is very nice. Gardens are "enclosed". They are not secure. Small dogs can easily get through the fences and a large job could get over the fence. Adjoining fields do sometime have sheep- therefore if you are taking dogs you need to take additional precautions to make sure your pets don't escape or worry nearby sheep. When we arrived the fence to the adjoining property (they also had a large dog) was falling apart. I asked the owner, who also runs the adjoining campsite, to address this issue. To illustrate my point, the owners own dogs often found their way into the garden of this property and defaecated several times- I had to pick this up myself to make sure my daughter didn't step in it. Overall we enjoyed Skye but the fact that garden wasn't secure meant it was difficult to relax with the dogs in the garden.

First of all no responsible dog owner would allow their dog into a strange area without proper supervision, especially in an area where sheep are present and even more so when lambs are about. Because of this I would never make any claim that the garden is secure. Secondly a Great Dane would require deer fencing to contain it. Travelling to a rural area it really shouldn't have been any great surprise that there are sheep. With regards to the two big dogs on the adjoining property, all of the boundary between the two properties is enclosed with a high stone wall, with the exception of a 2' section of fence. My dogs were in the garden while I was cutting the grass, one made a mess and I removed it along with all the mess left by your own dogs. I'd point out that the mess left by a Great Dane is easily distinguished from that of a Cocker Spaniel by the size alone! Property Owner

A lovely welcome, home made shortbread and lemon cake was fab - just the thing. A dog friendly accommodation with downstairs bedroom, this was just the thing as our dog is almost blind and becoming quite anxious so she was happy in the knowledge that we were close by at night, without having to negotiate a stairway in strange surroundings. Martin the owner and Lisa are super hosts and very approachable. Altogether a great stay. We found ourselves a gem here...top marks. Thank you so much.

It is warm, comfortable and very clean. Martin is great and so helpful, the cake and shortbread on arrival was a lovely touch - they were still warm and very delicious!! We would without hesitation stay here again. The location is also great for exploring the areas in the north west of Skye, we loved our walks round Rubha Hunish and the Quiraing both of which were a very reasonable drive from us.

We enjoyed the days very much! The kitchen had everything needed for cooking. The stereo is a big plus, because what could be nicer than listening to music while sitting in the chair and looking at the sea... For us, the highlight: the many (wild) animals that came by every now and then and could be observed through the large front window. Awesome! • "A lovely cottage in a peaceful location."

The cottage is right on the shores of the Loch with excellent views. The facilities are as stated on the Web site. The heating is on a timing and comes during early evening and first thing in the morning. There is also a wood burning fire, which is well stocked with wood. The kitchen is fine and well equipped, this includes an Airfrier. (Never used one before, I was quite impressed, now I need to go buy one) I noted from previous reviews that some people had an issue with the shower, and the sloping roof. I'm 6 feet tall and had no issues whatsoever, I stood upright with room to spare. My only comment would be that a non slip shower mat would enhance safety, particularly for those who are slightly infirm. Apart from that very minor issue, the cottage and location is first class. The owners live next door and on hand should assistance or advice be required. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend it without hesitation. Thank you for a lovely week.

It could not have been more welcoming. The cottage was fresh, clean and had everything we could need, including lovely towels and bedding. Uig is a peaceful little community on the water and Jubilee Cottage has a particularly private orientation, being the last cottage on a rocky beach. It was an absolute pleasure to wake in the mornings and enjoy a cup of tea in the front room looking out over the water, and the best way to end our days, looking out over bay as the sun set. I only wish we'd planned to stay longer.

  • "The house is in a nice location, sitting very near the sea and the views are lovely."

The garden is large and enclosed so ideal if you have a dog. The house is a lovely old building and the wood burning stove fire was huge and really cosy. The house is smaller than it looks. The living room/kitchen area is compact with hardly any worktop space. There were 2 separate areas of the house where water was coming in every time it rained. Not ideal. My biggest bugbears were the bathroom. The shower is over the bath which is fine but anyone taller than 5ft will struggle to stand upright. My husband is 6 2 so had to shower like a banana all week. The house is part of a small campsite. Whilst it is separate and detached I would not have booked it had I known this. Similarly the shower issue would have been a deal breaker too had I been aware. There were only the 2 of us and our wee dog. One other person would have been fine but 6 people using the bathroom every day would have been very impractical. The owners are next door and were friendly and responsive but for the reasons I’ve stated and the fact that the house is tired and needs tlc, we would not return or recommend

We have a number of issues with this review-first of all, it is clear in the specifications of the property that the shower is over the bath. It is also clear from the photographs that it is a traditional Croft house with the traditional sloping roof. I’m not sure where you thought the bathroom might be? The photographs also show the kitchen, and while the kitchen has been replaced within the last 12 months, the worksurface space is exactly as shown. The decor is in keeping with the age of the house, but is regularly maintained. The house is NOT part of a campsite, while we own both, the cottage is completely separate and the only shared space is the access road! We can only apologise for the rain drips, but unfortunately you were here for the tail end of Hurricane Ian so the weather was extreme. We bent over backwards to your requests, including turning a mattress at your request and at no point did you voice any other problems. I believe the conversation I had with your husband regarding the leak was ‘a little bit of water, but it’s not a problem’. Property Owner

Lovely shortbread and lemon cake on arrival was greatly appreciated. The local pub on pier very spit and sawdust but friendly and has pool table. Nice takeaway in village as part of petrol station//store does lovely fish n chips. Other pub on outskirts of Uig was not open often so didn’t visit. We had a week there and were blessed with wall to wall sunshine which allowed us to not only make the best use of the cottage but also the surrounding area which is quite beautiful and great for exploring. There were very few midges about when we were there (end of May, early June) as the sea breeze kept them away. Having said that, even when there was no breeze we noticed very few, so if that is something you are worried about (I was) then it wasn't a problem for us. In all honesty, the pictures don't do the cottage or its location full justice. Its located at the end of a road, so no passing traffic and almost no one walking past on the beach. It's perfectly quiet with the only passing traffic (which is very little) being the boats out in the bay. The ferry only docks 3 times a day and is well out in the bay so not intrusive in any way. in fact we loved watching them. We saw plenty of wildlife looking out of the window, including many birds fishing in the bay, seals and a pod of porpoises (or dolphins). Make sure you pack a pair (or two) of binoculars as our evenings consisted of sitting looking out to sea, seeing what we could spot. We've got two kids and a dog who were free to roam with no problems at all, with them all loving the beach. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating and helped with recommendations on where to visit, but weren't intrusive at all (they live next door). All in all, I can't recommend it highly enough and I'd like to think we'll revisit at some stage. Its a very relaxing cottage in a stunning location, which I can't fault in any way. We loved it and were sad to leave. Fantastic - book now!

About the location

UIG

Portree 15 miles.

The village of Uig (pronounced "Oo-ig"), at the northern tip of Skye, rests on the shores of Loch Snizort, Skye’s largest sea loch off the Atlantic. The village boasts two pubs, two shops, a hotel, a filling station and cafe, as well as two other businesses well-worth a visit. Uig Pottery sells a range of high quality pottery produced on-site, while the Skye Brewery sells its own superb real ales from the brewery shop. Sheltered by high cliffs, the bay is one of the most beautiful in Skye, and is home to the ferry terminal for the Outer Hebrides. Wildlife in the area includes golden eagles, sea eagles, pilot whales, seals and dolphins. The attractions of the Isle, including the main town of Portree, are all within easy reach of this tranquil base.
