"Hiya Chris,
Thanks for another amazing week in your property."
We were so lucky with the weather this year, it was perfect.
Star Na Mara is perfect for us as we do lots of walks in and around the area and covered some 50 miles this time.
Thanks again, Antony
Thank you for your very kind review - I am pleased you had such good weather and enjoyed so many great walks!

The quality and condition of the house is exceptional!
Thank you for your wonderful review. Our plumber has reported that we need a new pump for the upstairs radiators and will replace it on Saturday. Fortunately the weather has been warmer recently than most of the rather patchy summer!

"Lost count of the amount of times we’ve been to Star na Mara."
Think this was our 7th time. We love it! The house is situated on a lovely quiet spot about 150 metres from the coastal road. There are outstanding views of Eigg and Rhum from the kitchen/dining room and upstairs in the lounge. The house is well appointed and comfortable in every way! We’ve already booked for 2025. Can’t wait to be back!
Thank you for another fabulous holiday with our grown up family!
Thank you for your lovely review! We’re about to change the lounge carpet and update a few other things that are a bit tired. We look forward to your next visit.

"We absolutely loved staying at Star na Mara."
The house was beautiful and had everything we need for a comfortable stay. The decked balcony was a bit weathered (unsurprising given the properties west coast location!) but this didn't stop us enjoying it for dinner and drinks in the evenings. The kids and dogs loved playing in the garden and the location was perfect for exploring the beaches, paddleboarding and sea swimming. Lovely to come home in the evenings to relax with the amazing views and sunsets!
Thanks for having us- we would love to return in the future!
Thank you for your wonderful review! We are delighted when our guests have such a good stay. The decking is about to be restored. We look forward to welcoming you back.

"My family enjoyed staying in Star na Mara and we love the area."
The house sits in a spectacular location overlooking the beautiful bays of Triagh and further to Eigg.
There was an issue with some kitchen cleanliness which I relayed to the owner on arrival. We like to cook and enjoy family meals in the kitchen of rental properties and Star na Mara has a big table to enjoy eating together at, and board games .
I’ve stayed in properties in this price range before and the owners provide a lovely welcome pack from local suppliers but none here. I would also recommend that some items of kitchen equipment are replaced like the chopping boards as they are heavily scored which harbours germs. Also I’m not sure white sheepskin rugs are a good idea also as they are difficult to clean between lets. The outdoor table is also in need of replacement.
These are my recommendations. We had a fab family holiday here, and perhaps my feedback could improve the experience.
Thank you for your feedback which has been noted. We have already replaced the outside table and will replace the chopping boards. The sheepskin rugs have also been washed. We will also look into a welcome pack. I’m pleased that despite the setbacks that you still enjoyed your holiday.

"The view and location are amazing however."
..garden was not dog secure for any size of dog - listing is misleading. Some notices inside cottage suggest it is not dog friendly at all. I would not recommend this cottage - it is not the luxury that the price would suggest. Some of the sheepskin rugs looked tired and dirty. Decking in need of replacing. Kitchen chairs were wobbly. We were dissapointed with some aspects of the property.
Thank you for your feedback. Our house manager has now put fence wire mesh under the double gates so this should make the garden dog proof. We have had guests with dogs allowing their pets onto the furniture and beds and the notices are to try and deter this. The sheepskin rugs have now all been cleaned and/or replaced. The decking is going to be restored and the joints on the kitchen chairs are being tightened. I am sorry that these aspects were disappointing for you.

"Good quality appliances but I’m afraid that’s as far as I would go with the positives."
The house and garden look neglected. The large mat in the lounge is filthy with lots of hair. Had great hopes for this property but not what it was listed. Descriptions and photos out of date and do not correspond with some of what is there.
Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry that you had a disappointing experience with the house.
The lawn is very boggy being on the side of the hill with many springs around and frequent uncalled for visits from deer and the occasional cow do nothing to help the evenness of it. We enjoy the rural and wildlife aspect.
The carpet in the lounge is by its design and colour a little difficult to keep perfectly clean and despite requests certain of our guests will allow their dogs in that room. This may be time to replace it.
The only changes from the photographs to the house have I hope been improvements to the artwork and decoration.
Again I am sorry that the house and garden fell short of your expectations and I hope that you were otherwise able to enjoy the holiday.
With kind regards
Christopher

I would describe it as a happy house, with personal touches, a nice level of design and texture, amazing views and all the items we needed to have a relaxed working holiday. The two level accomodation allowed us to have space to be apart or spend time together. There were plenty of games/jigsaws for wetter weather, and all the kitchen appliances to be able to cook and bake like you would at home. House was clean/comfortable but underwhelming. Everything was just a little tired, compared with some LHH properties we have stayed in. The views were stunning and the location was good for nearby beaches/dog walks (by car). The kitchen was very well stocked with gadgets. No welcome pack, which is unusual for an LHH property - would have been nice after problem getting into the property. I don’t think we’ll be back but we enjoyed our week.

All in all, it was an experience that was not worth travelling five miles for let alone five hundred. Most of all, we resent the implication that we were not telling the truth.
Dear Guest
We are very sorry that your recent stay did not live up to your
expectations or indeed the experience enjoyed by the majority of our
visitors as expressed in the reviews below. Whilst I completely
appreciate that you had difficulty in operating the window closing
mechanism, what I cannot understand is why you didn't give me a quick

It has everything we needed and was just like a home from home. The only thing I would recommend would be an electric kettle as an option to the gas one as it takes so long to boil and is quite heavy to lift. A small thing really as everything else was perfect. At some stage would love to return here. Thank you to the owners for providing such a fabulous home!

"I just wanted to thank you for a fab weeks holiday."
The house is amazing. Having such wonderful views and the beach at the bottom of the drive was great. We managed to see the islands on day one and day seven - they were hiding most of the time. We also saw lots of wildlife and maybe an eagle (not sure).
The house had everything we needed for a relaxing week away. It’s great to see so much crockery, glasses etc. The bed linen was also amazing.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t very kind to us but it didn’t stop us getting out and about - we just got a bit wet in the process.

"Perfect location for exploring the area and no problems finding it."
It was a 5 minute walk to the beach which had great rock clambering for our 5yo and also lovely clear water for paddling. The view from the living room is epic, some evenings we all just sat and watched the sun set and the changing light over Rum. Wonderful. We visited Glenfinnan, took a trip on the MV Sheerwater to Eigg, went to Mallaig for lunch and the Co-op (insanely busy there due to the steam train), walked around the Rhu peninsula (to the beach and back) and spent lots of time on the beaches, Traig beaches were our fave. Best lunch we found was at Arisaig Marina, best evening meal we had was at the Old Library (essential to book). As for the house, it had nearly everything we needed/expected. There were 2 stand out things we were a little disappointed with, one was the toilet paper supplied, for a 6 person house, only 2 rolls of paper in each bathroom, so watch out! Luckily it's only a 5 minute drive to the Spar at Arisaig. The other thing was the size of the towels, with such a lovely bathroom I would have loved a full size bath towel to wrap up in after a bath . Not so bad in the Summer, but would even more surely miss this for the colder seasons. Other than that the kitchen has everything we needed for cooking for a family, games, and table tennis was a fabulous addition. The TV was a godsend in the morning to allow the grown-ups to have a lay-in, very slow internet though, we couldn't get any of the streaming services working so glad we brought a bunch of DVDs with us. I noticed in the description it mentions the steam train stopping at Arisaig, we were told it does not stop at Arisaig, the last stop before Mallaig is Glenfinnan. It's also very unlikely you will be able to get on here as it's generally fully booked! You can hear the express from all over the place though, we heard it a couple of times from the beach.
LHH Response: We have asked the owner to supply bath sheets rather than bath towels. With regards to the toilet paper, we ask our owners to ensure there is a full roll in each bathroom as a starter. Guests are required to bring their own for the rest of the week.

"We've had a lovely week in such a gorgeous house!"
The views especially in the evening have been glorious. It's been a week of mixed weather but we've still had plenty to do - trips to Rum, Knoydart, Glenfinnan and Skye. There have been lots of oppurtunities for running, cycling and even swimming, and when the weather wasn't so good - the Harry Potter box set (thank you!). We've certainly eaten very well - would recommend The Old Library in Arisaig, Andy Rae's for fresh fish, the Garden Cafe in Mallaig and the Forge on Knoydart.
