  • "Lovely location with great views over the loch."

The property is very spacious and well equipped on the whole. However, the dishwasher wouldn't accept tablets which probably explained why some of the crockery in the cupboards were dirty. The biggest problems were the lack of an outside light in a very dark area and mould on the ceiling in the bathroom which put us off having a bath.

Many apologies for the dishwasher. I will ensure the tablet release drawer is fixed so that dishes are properly cleaned. Despite ventilation it can get very damp and I will ensure this is cleaned away. There are two outside lights, but the grounds are extensive, making it difficult to completely illuminate in a remote and natural area. I will provide a torch so guests have better light. Many thanks Property Owner

  • "The house was well equipped and very spacious."

Plenty of pots pans and glassware in the kitchen. It's in a great location with lovely views. Attractive grounds with shrubs but could do with some tlc. Pity the local pub stopped serving food at 5.30 but the Loch Shiel Hotel (3 miles) was very good.

Many thanks and very glad the holiday was enjoyable! The gardener is now doing extra weeding and also the rubble pile which had been from the new bathrooms installed, is now cleared. haste ye back! Property Owner

  • "Lovely large house, plenty of room, very well stocked and very clean."

We lacked nothing during the stay. Lovely spot and views. Quite remote, would have brought more supplies if we had realised how remote it was but this was our fault. Only slight issues were: Some damp in main bedroom Garden felt a little neglected, wooden steps a bit hazardous after all the rain, river closer than we realised. However it was a great holiday (despite the weather) and great value for money. I would highly recommend to others.

Many thanks, many apologies about the garden, the grass is cut regularly but I have now managed to arrange for further care next season. It is be a very wet climate on the west coast leading to damp areas, however I have now treated that area. The wooden stairs into the front garden can get slippy when wet, and am arranging a notice to draw attention. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and always welcome back! Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful week in Salen."

The house is ideal for two families of four and had everything we needed. It has a gorgeous view over the Loch and we enjoyed some lovely walks. The information provided by Karen about the local area and suggestions on what to do, was really helpful. We had two great meals at the Salen Hotel and a lunch at Cafe Tioram. It's a great location for exploring. Thanks for a great stay!

So delighted you have enjoyed it is much as we do! There is so much to do in that beautiful part of the world! You are always welcome back! Karen Property Owner

  • "Allt an Dorran is a lovely property."

Spacious, well decorated, equipped and very comfortable. The location is great for exploring the peninsula and beyond. The views are fantastic and I have never seen such a starry night sky. The local people are very nice and friendly. Also the week we were there in October - there were no midges or rained off days.

  • "Absolutely stunning location, beautiful surroundings, property is superbly situated and local shops whilst small have fabulous local produce."

We can’t wait to book again.

I am delighted you enjoyed it and you are welcome back anytime! New things are cropping up all the time too, the Crab shack at Arisaig, and Kilcamb Hotel now open. I am constantly upgrading and putting up more optics behind the sun lounge bar with plans for a nespresso machine and a night wildlife watch camera. Property Owner

  • "A lovely place in a lovely setting - a real joy to be able to stay :) Only issue was the en-suite shower - it doesn’t really work properly using the mixer tap and the water pressure is not strong enough which caused long queues in the morning for the main bathroom."

    Would definitely stay again though.

You are absolutely right and thanks for saying that. I have had the plumber go in right away to fix this and it is now fixed and fully working. Property Owner

  • "Allt an Dorran is a beautiful property, overlooking Loch Sunart."

Everything we needed in a holiday cottage for a comfortable, relaxing break. Only slight problem we encountered was the dishwasher, which didn't seem to be working - but with a view like that from the kitchen sink, it wasn't really a chore to wash up by hand! Would certainly recommend this property.

  • "We loved Allt An Doran!"

Having read the previous review, we were a bit worried but having stayed, we feel the review was extremely harsh and unjustified. The house is in a beautiful part of Scotland and the house has sensational Loch views. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the sun lounge with a cup of tea or better, a glass of wine, enjoying the views - very relaxing. The house was homely and very comfortable with everything you need, including films, books and toys. It was very clean, the beds were really comfy, with 2 bedrooms having great views of the Loch. We loved the walk right out the back which was great for the dog. Shame the hotel was not open but great local shop along the road and a great tearoom in Acharacle, which has fabulous cakes and coffee. Would definitely recommend.

  • "We had a nice time in Scotland, but this property needs updating."

There is ripped furniture, one TV doesn't work at all without a plug in device which is not provided, and the other kept loosing sound. When we arrived the whole property smelt musty. It also felt like you were in someone else's house, not something I've experienced from sykes properties before. There was lots of the owners things around including Mail, receipts, trumpets, food and note books. The kitchen cupboards needed a good clear out, lots of the mugs etc were dirty, lots of odd sandwich bags left etc. The fridge performed poorly and froze half our food, and the hob took an age to heat it. Would really benefit from an induction hob. The location of the property was a lot more overlooked than it appeared in the website images, and the road had lots of big lorries passing on it. As for seeing the northern lights from the property, it faces south! Overall the property was very overpriced including compared to similar properties in the area, but we made the best of it.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you were unhappy with some elements of the property. We have recently refurbished the property and the bedrooms have new beds, carpets and furniture and the lounge also has a new carpet, sofas and a wood-burner. We understand that a recliner chair in the sun lounge is a little worn and we are looking to try and repair this for future guests; however, this is fully use-able and we feel more beneficial leaving this item in the property rather than removing this seating. We do try to leave some useful items such as sandwich bags and tin foil for guests use but appreciate not everybody will use these. We can also not guarantee the wildlife or that the northern lights will be visible during your stay. Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback. Property Owner
