There’s a little Post Office/village shop a few minutes’ walk away too - all-round a lovely countryside retreat!

  • "It's a great place for a family stay, the house has everything you need."

It could have been a little cleaner, but it wasn't enough to spoil our stay. It felt like an above average family home in cleanliness, rather than spotless. A 2 slice toaster for an 8 birth was a struggle! The kitchen and dining room were where we spent most of our time. Felt it wouldn't have been unreasonable to leave the dishwasher with one load running on departure. So, we felt a little rushed leaving at 10 o'clock after washing and drying up, putting everything back as we found it and stripping the beds. Great walks nearby, the local pub was pricey and a little clicky. The owners cannot control the pub. All in all we would return, it is a lovely place for groups and very tastefully decorated.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Kings Cottage South. We are so pleased you all enjoyed yourself and we have passed on your feedback to the Owner with regards to the cleaning and toaster. We hope to welcome you in the future for another stay. • "A lovely property, very comfortable and beautifully fitted out."

The Aga style hob and oven was a bit of a challenge but we worked it out. The two dishwashers are much appreciated with a group of several people. The garden is at the front of the house and the driveway leads to a road so our dog who has terrible recall had to be closely supervised. The same would apply to children! As with virtually every property we have stayed at, the additional built in Neff double oven could do with a major clean using a scourer. We did not use it because of this. Otherwise, a really enjoyable stay.

Thank you for sharing your feedback.  We are glad you mastered cooking on the Everhot. It is a luxurious feature of this cottage, which many of our customers love, particularly during the winter months. The garden is not advertised as enclosed, although in fact it does have a secure gate onto the road, which is dog-proofed. We are sorry about the Neff oven. It is cleaned every changeover but we will give it a further, extensive clean. Best wishes Fiona Property Owner

  • "This is an absolutely wonderful cottage."

Not only in a beautiful village, with picture postcard vistas, it is extremely well presented and equipped, even if you had the full quota of guests, which is not always the case. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and very much hope we will visit again or even the smaller cottage next door. Close to Salisbury, Wilton, Stonehenge, Old Sarum and Amesbury and plenty a bit further afield too. Really, the best of all worlds, countryside walks, city history and heritage. Highly recommended. Would be ideal for a family get together. Marvellous for Christmas. Due to age and layout of cottage there are some low ceilings, varying levels and narrow staircase. This is is only important if you have people in your party that may find it tricky. I would recommend asking if it is likely to be an issue for you. That said my 83 year old mother in law managed ok, carefully! Has downstairs loo which makes life easier. Lovely pub, just refurbished and reopened and community shop, post office/café was very handy. Don't miss Reddish House, former home of Sir Cecil Beaton/Toyah Wilcox and Robert Fripp, all but next door.

We're so pleased that you all had an enjoyable stay and packed in lots of exploring, it is a great area. We look forward to welcoming you back. Best wishes, HideAways Property Owner

It was clean, warm and welcoming, lots of character and nicely finished, kids loved exploring the different levels and room layout. Great kitchen and well equipped. Good location too. It was as beautiful, tranquil and as good value as ever. The garden and the river seemed (to our relief after experiencing the effects of drought in London) in pretty good health and added greatly to the experience. The accommodation is maintained to a high standard and the owner has made sure that the kitchen and other downstairs spaces have plenty of entertainments, puzzles and books. Broad Chalke is terrific: river or hill walks, beautiful church, two good pubs, the Queen Head (gastro) and the White Hart (family), and the fabulous, highly professional community shop complete now with a coffee shop. A wonderful place to stay. Date of experience: 20 August 2022

The cottage offers plenty of space and has a few different seating areas where you can enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. Broad Chalke is a lovely little village and has a great little shop for essentials and we highly recommend the Queens Head pub. Both the shop and the pub are within a 10 minute wander of the cottage. We highly recommend Kings Cottage South and would definitely like to return in the future.

The sun room was our favourite space with the “everhot” aga my favourite item. As expected in a grade 2 listed cottage, the upstairs beams/ceiling are a little low in places with lots of protective leather padding. Showering for the taller lads became a different experience each time resulting in much laughter around the table. Beautiful location, great village-fresh watercress, wonderful walking from the house and awaking to the beautiful May dawn chorus was an absolute pleasure (it will be miss)

Everything was very clean and the owner greeted us as we arrived late to help us find the key. Sykes Cottages and the owner were very responsive for any queries we had. There seems lots to do in the area although for us as the weather wasn't good we visited some lovely local pubs (recommended by the owner) or played board games in the evening which was great fun. Really well laid out and finished to a very high end. There were a few things that could be added. Hair dryers in each room, and a cup or something in the bathroom to hold toothpaste. Finally there was a noice in the master bedroom that woke my parents up each morning and sometimes in the night. We think it was the boiler in the next door property as the flew came out of the roof close to their room. The local area was very picturesque with a watercress farm at the end of the road. The local pub was within easy access and the food very good. We met a few villagers and we were greeted with a warm welcome. With all this in mind we would love to return to Kings cottage and Broad Chalke

Mr Spain, we are sorry about the boiler and wish your parents had told us, as it would have been put right immediately. Regarding hair dryers in all bedrooms, we already provide one for the house but will increase this provision in future. Property Owner
