We had a lovely week, taking the dog for walks from Russet up onto Martin Down. Found most of the places we wanted to go to were approximately 30 minutes from Russet which was ideal. Harley, our four legged family member settled into Russet straight away, as did we. It was warm and quiet. We would sit ànd listen to a owl in the evenings and look at all the feathered visitors to the garden during the day. We would definitely come back if you'd have us. Oh and the cake was gorgeous thank you so much. Gary and Sue xx

Having a dog it's a great place for walks with the Nature reserve 5 mins away , woods and beaches not too far. Only problem for us this time was due to the sheep in the paddock directly opposite. Our dog is a rescue Whippet Patterdale cross and due to the terrier in her she was constantly barking at the sheep so I will check next time with Cathy( who is great), if the paddock is in use. Our fault as it's summer and our last stay was in the Winter and it was empty So maybe check if you have a dog with similar tendencies. The garden is a fabulous very private place to sit and relax and the Buddleia and butterflies were a joy . Highly recommended .

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with such lovely feedback on your stay at Russet. We hope that Dog was able to enjoy some time away despite the sheep, and we look forward to one day welcoming you again! Best wishes, HideAways. Property Owner

Martin village is a great place for a base and we loved the NNR just down the road. The new forest nearby is stunning. All in all a great holiday thank you. ps the army helicopters were fun to watch flying over now and again.

The bathroom floor was filthy as well as the bottom of the shower, the front door didn't shut properly. I ended up coming home a day early because it was so cold in the cottage.

I am sorry you didn't contact me or Hideaways regarding your concerns whilst staying. The heating does work and could have been adjusted if requested and likewise the abundant supply of free logs for the woodburner replenished if required. The limestone tiles and grouting were deep steam cleaned earlier this month and cleaned as normal prior to your arrival. Thank you for drawing my attention to the door handle which I am sure can be easily resolved. I hope you and your dog enjoyed the wonderful nearby walks whilst staying. • "I had lovely stay as did my little elderly dog Rufus."

In a beautiful very friendly village. The 'barn' had everything we needed. If anything the underfloor heating was a bit his and miss, couldn't use the controls so I had to rely on the log burner as it was freezing outside. I got through all the remaining wood during my stay to keep warm. Apart from that, we took a trip down to Bournemouth on a lovely if crisp sunny day, about 35 min drive and a walk on the beach. A 15 min drive to the New Forest and a 2 min walk to the village shop, which is open twice a day 9-10.30am and 4.30-6pm Mon-Fri and Sat morning only. About a 5min drive to Fordingbridge. For dog owners there is a lovely walk through the church grounds and through the neighbouring fields. I did get a supermarket delivery but give directions for the driver as the post code includes all the properties around that area. For anyone who likes military aviation you may get to see Apache helicopters fly overhead from Middle Wallop army base near Andover.

Thank you Lynda for your lovely feedback which is much appreciated. We are delighted that you (and Rufus!) enjoyed your stay at Russet and managed to keep warm during such a cold spell. More logs and help with the controls would have been easily solved if Cathy had known. We look forward to welcoming you again. Hideaway Cottages Property Owner

  • "Lovely warm comfortable property which ticked lots of boxes."

Not many places have all of the following... Space, comfort, cosiness, very good woodburner with logs supplied, great rural location, peaceful, private, fully enclosed dog proof garden, well equipped, dishwasher and washing machine, games room, extra large comfortable bed, great shower, amazing deep luxurious bath and a delicious homemade cake.. the list goes on. We had a couple of small hiccups which Cathy attended to fully and immediately. For us two things made it a 9 out of 10.We hate TV's on the wall and this one is particularly high up and very uncomfortable to watch. We like to watch a film in these dark evenings and it was difficult to get comfortable (we are 70 & 71) so maybe its an age thing. Also the Wifi wasn't very efficient during our week which may effect your stay. If you are going this time if year two things to be aware if are that in the dark its not that clear where it is from the directions(obvious in daylight). Drive on past the white barred gate and not through it like we did! Also you cannot park close to the property to unpack and have to take your things up in a wheeled trolley in the dark (so take a torch). Although this was a little annoying this soon passed on entering Russet and seeing how lovely it was. (TV aside) We had a very relaxing comfortable week and Cathy was lovely would definitely recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this comprehensive feedback which is much appreciated. I'm delighted that you found the property so comfortable and welcoming. Thank you also for bringing some issues to my attention. I should say that there have been no previous comments about the wifi and that the path lighting is already scheduled to be upgraded when the electrician can do it. Best wishes Cathy Property Owner

There is a games room shared with the neighbouring property with a mini pool table, table tennis table and a large selection of board games. The surrounding area is stunning and our little spaniel loved the endless surrounding fields to run around in. Stonehenge, Bournemouth, Poole, Lulworth Cove + Durdle Door as within an hour’s drive. • "Having stayed at the Russet during one of the hottest August’s on record we spent the majority of the evenings relaxing and eating in the garden However the old garden furniture is incredibly uncomfortable."

For future guests we would recommend taking two folding camping chairs to ensure your evenings are more comfortable. As for the two sun/reclining beds that are on the photographs, there is only one on site and it looks more like a feature in the garden rather than what you may choose to relax on. The property is idyllic and situated in delightful countryside away from the tourist areas on the south coast. The property was spotlessly clean and very welcoming.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay in Russet. We always value the feedback given by guests and will forward your suggestions onto the owner regarding the garden furniture. Property Owner

  • "Russet is our perfect holiday accommodation."

Its location, a short walk from the beautiful Martin Down, is superb. It has a lovely enclosed outdoor area and garden so we were able to let our dogs outside and relax without fear of them running off. It feels private and tucked away but was easy to find and is a good base for exploring the local area. The cottage is clean, comfortable, well-equipped and nicely furnished. The little touches that made all the difference were the cake and welcome note that greeted us on our arrival and the items left for the dogs - this was very thoughtful and made us feel genuinely welcomed. The fantastic weather was the icing on the cake! Thank you very much for a lovely week, we're already planning our return next year!

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Russet. It's always lovely to receive feedback about our guests stay and we hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

Well equipped with plenty of appliances to enjoy a hassel free and relaxing holiday. Had really good weather so enjoyed using the sun loungers which were provided. Very friendly host who tried to rectify the two problems we had - broken blind and bathroom extractor but provided a wonderful home baked cake which was an unexpected 'extra'. Thank you Cathy. Plenty of interesting places to visit around the area so would certainly recommend this little gem hidden in the Hampshire countryside.

However it has been in use for 6 years and maintenance has not been carried out. The pictures on the website were taken 6 years ago, the garden has been neglected, the garden furniture and all woodwork unpainted in that time. The property, towels and linen were all very clean, but toaster, sink tidy and cooking utensils require cleaning attention. There is surround sound, double ended bath, tealights and champagne bucket, but nowhere to store luggage. The bed is 6ft wide but the linen does not quite cover. Overall the property impresses but lacks comfort.

  • "Four families came to celebrate our silver and my sister's Ruby wedding anniversaries."

The two separate cottages and barn accommodated all 11 of us, with the use of two put-u-up settees. We used the dining and kitchen area of one of the cottages for the children to eat and it meant that there was still some living space for other adults wanting a retreat! The children loved to watch the farm animals, but were a little wary of the dogs! Each cottage is well equipped as is the barn, with TV's in the cottages but not in the main barn. The barn area has a lovely long table and benches allowing us all to share the days activities with our meals, but perhaps one small point is that sitting 8 adults on the sofa was a bit cosy! The position of the cottages gives you easy easy access to the sea and all that you find in the New Forest. The owner provided an additional service of a three course meal to end our celebrations, which I would highly recommend. This was a perfect retreat for a lovely family celebration. Thanks to Cathy, the owner for all your help to make this a most enjoyable stay.

  • "This was a fab cottage in a quiet village only 20 minutes from the centre of Salisbury."

We used it as a base to visit a variety of places and had a brilliant two weeks. The cottage was lovely and clean and the facilities were great. Our grown daughters came to stay for a few days and we all had plenty of room. The outdoor garden was great for our dog and the middle room with the pool table gave us even more extra space and provided some great entertainment. The homemade cake on arrival was gorgeous and a lovely touch. Went to some fab country pubs for some lovely meals. Visited the Dorset coast several times which is lovely. Will return again.

Thanks for the tasty cake - a very welcome delivery. We have been able to see our daughter who lives in Salisbury every day and were joined by our younger daughter for a few days! It was a fab. base for many days out - New Forest, the coast etc. Used the Dorset book a lot. Thank you.

  • "The cottage we had was Russet, placed just on the edge of the New Forest and it enjoys a very quiet and tranquil setting."

The cottage itself is very well equipped and spotless throughout. The little touches made it a 'Home from Home' from a welcome package upon arrival to the thoughtful basket of essentials that you always forget to bring or buy e.g. olive oil, spices and other niceties to garnish your cooking there. As a family of four we found it an ideal place to stay along with the location. Both the New Forest and the main road to Salisbury are within easy reach. We hope to visit again in the not too distant future.

Cottage very comfortable with all the amenities of home. Private, small garden perfect for relaxing and listening to the birds chorus in the morning or evening. Clean and welcoming, could not fault it in any way. Look forward to returning on later visits to Hampshire. We stayed with our two year old daughter and small dog, all had a good time.

  • "We stayed in Russet over Xmas for the 2nd consecutive year."

It's a beautiful, quiet, cottage in a lovely location. Set in the pretty village of Martin, it provides a remote feeling but is close enough to Fordingbridge for supplies (co-op, tesco etc). Just 20 mins (roughly) to the New Forest and yet still close to Salisbury if you want city life. The owners get the personal touch just right; there if you need them but otherwise they leave you to enjoy your holiday. The middle cottage is great if you're in a bigger party or just fancy a game of pool. Very well stocked kitchen with everything you'd need. Cosy flooring (heated) and the log fire warms the whole cottage within minutes. A little gem :)
