  • "St Edmunds is a lovely, cosy cottage."

Well furnished, comfortable beds and everything you need. It is in a convenient spot for many of North Yorkshire’s attractions - don’t miss Fountains Abbey and the Forbidden Corner! It is however on a very busy main road, so I think in the Summer, when you want windows open, it would be rather noisy. There is no safe outside space for children or dogs, the shared grassy area is directly in front of the other cottages.

The facilities and hot tub are excellent. We went as a group of 8 and there was plenty of kitchen utensils. It is on a main road but not too much traffic, so it is not too noisy. We loved our stay.

Lovely and clean, everything we needed and very comfortable. We’d never been to the Yorkshire Dales before but we found the area beautiful. We had need to message one of the numbers you gave us when we had an issue with another cottage parking in our space but they were quick to respond and the issue was resolved.

  • "Our 2nd stay here in this overall lovely cottage."

Just a couple of things to point out. The shower head in the large bathroom does not adjust upwards so you either have to crouch underneath it or hold it in one hand, which makes washing difficult. Some plastic wine/prosecco glasses for use in the hot tub would be nice. A few light bulbs were not working. A lick of paint in some areas would brighten it up. However, these are minor issues and did not affect our stay. The pub is literally at the end of the road and serves lovely food. The outdoor seating was lovely to use as we had glorious sunshine but feels secluded and private.

It was very well cleaned. Plenty of plates, cups etc for a big group. Hot tub was very private for the cottage and extremely clean. Wonderful welcome pack provided which was well received. Cottage has parking for one car but it worked very well having the other car parked just along the village. Can’t fault it at all. We had a fabulous time. Thank you so much. This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful village. We had everything we needed for our stay. The welcome pack was much appreciated (we actually didn't realise this was provided!) Very clean and comfortable. All the beds were also very comfortable. A couple of the bedrooms would benefit from mirrors as we ended up having to share the mirrors in the bedrooms that had them. There was a bit of a damp smell downstairs in the living room and dining room but that did not affect our stay. Hot tub was wonderful! Would definitely recommend to our friends and family and we will probably return!

The house was so clean and well maintained and everything you needed was there! We stayed in the house for meals most nights, but did visit the village pub for food one night. Whilst it is pretty basic it is good honest pub grub (and hubby said a good pint too!). The house was everything we wanted it to be for our stay and I would be happy to stay here again!

Bed was comfortable, property very clean and a very nice welcome pack. A word of warning for people over 6ft, there are a few low door frames as the lumps on my head prove. Once you've been round the house a few times it's OK. A small moan is the lack of clothes hanging space. Eric

The house was clean and cosy, with a lot of essentials which came in so handy. The welcome basket was a lovely extra treat and my son loved the Easter egg. • "The house was absolutely stunning and I cannot fault that however the WiFi password had faded off the box and the Owner didn’t know the code nor was it anywhere in the house therefore we had no WiFi all weekend and the smart elements of the TV wouldn’t work."

If we had taken children I think this would have been an issue. In addition there was no welcome note/ letter which usually you have with WiFi code in and other things. Nobody came to clean the hot tub which it stated in the E-Mail before we came that they would. We were able to contact the owner which was great but they were unable to help with the WiFi situation they did offer to come and sort it but they admitted they didn’t know how to do this therefore there wasn’t much point. Also the welcome box as pictured in the pictures online had bread and crisps in but online looked like it had much more in. I would love to book again as the house is so beautiful however I wouldn’t book again without assurance that these things would have been rectified. Again the house was lovely and if these things were improved on it would be an ideal to go an stay with kids and adults

Thank you for your feedback. We did offer to come up and sort it for you but you advised that you would manage without. As you were there Friday to Monday, the hot tub self-dispenses chemicals and so no routine clean is required for a short stay. Thank you once again for the feedback. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip."

The beds are quite comfy. It is an old house so its quite creaky at times and the hot water can go off if using the showers at the same time. The listing and the instructions were a bit confusing and mismatched at times as to what to bring and what not to but this is minor and we managed. Loved the welcome box it was a lovely touch. It would have been nice if the wifi was connected to the tv so we could have used the smart tvs. The hot tub was a nice addition and private, the cottage was on the main road through road and was a bit noisy with traffic at times but again only a minor thing. Maybe if the windows were double glazed this would help. All in all a lovely stay for us and would recommend for a short break.

The house was lovely and spacious, the decor is welcoming and cosy and we all enjoyed our stay. The hot tub was fully set up in a small courtyard with lots of privacy. Our only criticism was there was no enough toilet roll and bin bags provided. When checking out we found it hard to fit everything in the one spare bin bag we were provided with and had to go buy additional toilet roll as there were only a couple of rolls in each toilet and there were 8 ladies staying for 2 nights. The windows of not being able to open most of them was really off putting, wouldn't like to have been there in the heatwave. In the porch part as you walk in, one of my twins moved the chair and it had all dead flies on the floor. Carpets especially downstairs seemed battered didn't seem clean at all. Sofa didn't seem clean either and needed a thorough steaming. Chocolate box on floor when we arrived. Just wasn't upto standard of last cottage we stayed in April with Sykes.

Lots of things that were mentioned in the welcome book were not available such as salt and pepper it did say there would be single use packets available. Also there is no mention of how busy that road is in front of the property it made us very nervous with 2 small children. And it was extremely noisy The information in what to do with the bedding and towels was contradictory in each bedroom and in the welcome book. St Edmunds Cottages

Nestled in the peaceful village of Crakehall in the lower Yorkshire Dales, these cottages offer a serene destination for a relaxing break. From the outside, these pretty properties are aesthetically pleasing with stone frontages, window frames painted a tasteful mint green, and well-kept gardens with views over Bedale Beck. Inside, the cottages are a well-balanced mix of contemporary design and period features, with modern kitchens and bathrooms intermingling with exposed beams and original windows. The décor is neutral throughout with elegant splashes of colour complementing certain rooms. Despite the rural location, the properties are well connected with each offering WiFi and top-of-the-range Smart TVs. The village of Crakehall is regarded by many as one of the prettiest in the Yorkshire Dales, featuring a 5-acre green surrounded by Sycamore and lime trees, populated by stone-built cottages, some of which dating back as far as the 1600’s. It is split into two by a tributary of the River Swale, Bedale Beck, forming Little Crakehall and Great Crakehall. The complex of holiday cottages and their gardens overlook both the bridge and the beck, as well as the A684 road, which provides part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The village is close to the market town of Bedale with its selection of shops and pubs, as well as museum and weekly market. If walking is more your thing there are plenty of picturesque walking routes in the vicinity, especially in the beautiful valleys of the Yorkshire Dales.
