On arrival we were greeted by Karen, shown around the cottage and she gave recommendations for places to visit and food options. Karen provided us with milk, cakes and a loaf of freshly baked bread, a lovely touch. All amenities were spot on, rooms were very spacious and ideal for 6 of us. The village of Mickleton was great, lots of nice pubs for food and drink. We had a great stay and would recommend to anyone!

Thank you so much for this and the fruit cake and biscuits. They were lovely after a long journey. We arranged a tesco delivery to be delivered on the day we arrived for ease. Highly recommend! Lovely home, very clean and the beds were very comfortable!! Kitchen well equipped for what you need. Hot tub was a bonus, Julie was in it every day! Have to praise on the house being dog friendly and not just dog tolerant. Was refreshing to visit a property and not have too many restrictions. It felt like they were more than welcome. Visited Barnard Castle a few times. Saturday was very busy and not much carparking, however they have the best fish and chip shop we've ever been too. Fish and chips @ 149. A must if you enjoy them. Lovely ice cream shops. They do have a morrisons and lidl if you need anything too. We did a few different walks, first one was to high force waterfall from the high force hotel car park. £3.50 per person and tickets can be bought online or at the waterfall. Beautiful scenery, perfect to let the dogs off to have a run through the woods. Second walk was from Bowlees visitors center to high force hotel. Lovely walk, dogs have to stay on a lead, however a good walk with a few waterfalls and Gibsons cave! Teesdale railway walk was If you are after a local dog walk, go straight out the back gate and straight down the lane. You'll come to an open field where the dogs can have a good run to the bridge. Didn't manage to explore over the bridge but there is a public footpath there. Highly recommend eating at the high force hotel. Food was reasonable price and delicious. Hot meat cibatta was amazing. Made a fuss of the dogs. Still lots to visit will definitely be returning. Thanks so much for a lovely holida

They also responded and fixed very quickly, a broken door handle we advised them off. The freshly baked bread, milk and welcome gifts were a lovely touch. So many places to visit and explore , High Force and Low Force Waterfalls , the market town of Barnard Castle or simply just roaming through the countryside taking in the stunning views , there is something for everyone. After a days exploring, the hot tub is ideal for aching limbs while dinner is cooking. Karen and her team were very helpful and informative throughout the duration of our stay . Very peaceful and beautiful area. Lots to do: Bernard Castle, Beamish Museum, Durham City, seaside at Seaham, High Force, etc. Our dogs were very safe there. The hot tub was a big hit. The very steep hill outside the cottage might be a problem for a less able person, and for a car in winter. I don't know if it was mentioned in the booking literature.

Lovely enclosed garden for the dogs a few more comfortable garden chairs would have been nice but there is a wooden table that seats 8 which was great for the barbecues we had. Bread was being made in the breadmaker when we arrived and a box of biscuits was left for us too. Karen came and introduced herself and was very knowledgeable about places to eat and the lovely walks around the area. The hot tub was well used especially by our grandchildren and it was checked every day by the owners . On reflection I think I should have asked for the bedroom next to the en-suite bedroom to have the bed zipped linked for my daughter and son in law as this had inbuilt wardrobes and more storage space than the front bedroom they were in and one of the children could have had the bedroom they had but that was completely my mistake and not the owners. If you are a family of 4 adults and 2 children going I would recommend you request the bed to be zipped linked which is much larger for a couple. I can highly recommend this cottage there is plenty of room to park which is just opposite the front door on the opposite side of the road, the cottage facilities are great, with the lovely garden which is fully enclosed ideal for dogs, the hot tub is a lovely place to relax after the lovely walks that are available close by. Lovely quiet area in beautiful countryside , can recommend the Moorcock Inn we had a delicious meal there. We did not want to leave we had a really enjoyable, relaxing time there and would love to return in the future. I cannot recommend this place highly enough .

  • "Whilst there were only 2 of us staying at this cottage, it was obvious that it would comfortably accommodate the 8 that it sleeps."

It was immaculately clean and the facilities were more than adequate. The main bathroom has been updated since the pictures were taken and it's been done to a high standard, the walk in shower was brilliant. I booked this house specifically because of the canopy over the hot tub, they are a rare find but very welcome on rainy days, hence why I ended up with such a large house for only two of us. The hot tub was perfectly located, not far from the back door of the house and had a beautiful view. It stayed really hot for a long time and was really well maintained. Despite the size of the lounge the wood burner kept it really warm and cosy and once you'd used up the supply of logs left for you, the garage just down the road sold them. When we booked we didn't know what was going to happen next with the pandemic so we were prepared to cook our own meals, however we only had to once. The kitchen was well equipped and appeared to have everything you might need. We found a couple of nice places to eat as the restrictions didn't change whilst we were there. We had lunch at the nearby Rose & Crown at Romaldkirk which was exceptional and another day we had an excellent evening meal at the Forresters Hotel and Restaurant in Middleton, which offers French cuisine. We visited the ruins in Barnard Castle and the town has a supermarket so not to far to travel to stock up on supplies. We also visited the High Force waterfall which was absolutely breath taking. We drove to a nearby reservoir but it was closed for visitors as they're doing some maintenance, however it was a beautiful drive around the outskirts and this area is a really lovely part of the country. Overall fabulous few days and having lost a couple of foreign holidays this year, we now feel like we've been away. Highly recommend this Cottage and we can't wait to come back and see more of the area.

The facilities were excellent. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were very firm to the point of being uncomfortable. The hot tub was great and the garden is a good size. The living room has plenty of seating and the kitchen is well equipped. There are 2 pubs in the village, one serving food however they stop at 6pm on a Sunday night and there were no takeaways offering delivery.
