  • "Great stay in a lovely lodge."

Very clean and comfortable. Would recommend.

  • "The accommodation was great including, bedding, towels, and kitchen equipment."

The heating was great. Cosy sitting area comfy beds and good to have two bathrooms so each couple had there own space. The hot tub was lovely. The actual area is so quite and peaceful but within a short drive of nice places to visit and do any necessary shopping. The four of us would all book again just the problem of only having so much holiday to take.

  • "We spent a lovely weekend at 6 Badgers Retreat!"

The lodge is fabulous and is set in a beautiful, peaceful location yet is close to lots of local amenities. The lodge offered everything we needed for a comfortable weekend with the hot tub being an added bonus. The location meant that we were able to explore both the Yorkshire Dales and the contrasting North Yorkshire Moors. We will definitely look to return!

It would have nice to have known this.We were unlucky in as our heating failed on day 2 of 4 which left us very cold as the weather changed and with no owner contact details in the key box as stated

The setting was amazing to sit in the hot tub and just chill. My dog loved the dog walk area . It is a drive to go to surrounding beauty spots but it's so worth it to get back to the peace.

  • "We had a great 5 night stay at 6 Badgers Retreat ."

The lodge is perfect, very clean, very comfortable, everything you need and the welcome pack was a nice surprise. The area is very quiet and peaceful but you also have Aldi and Tesco just up the road at Catterick Garrison. I would also recommend The Farmers Arms and The Hollyhill Inn for a lovely pub meal. One very small recommendation would be to have a cover over the hot tub as we couldn't use it when it rained. But we still had a lovely time.

  • "Lovely property on a very quiet site."

Enjoyed seeing the lambs, rabbits, pheasants and a couple of deer around the site. Good location with local shops 5 minutes away and Richmond 10 minutes. Property was well equipped with all the home from home comforts (the only thing missing was some egg cups and a toast rack). We didn’t get to use the hot tub due to the weather, but it could do with being made a little more private. Overall it was a good place to stay and we would recommend. Thank you.

  • "The lodge was beautiful!"

The retreat was very quiet and peaceful. The beds were incredibly comfortable and when we arrived there was facilities to make a brew and settle in. First impressions were great! The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is we could have done with bin bags and toilet roll. The internet and TV in the main living area worked intermittently and the TV in the bedroom I couldn't get to work at all but these are only minor things. The owner was friendly and communication was good. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others for sure!

  • "Lovely place and communication great."

Hot tub was cold on arrival so first night we couldn't use it. Its also not very private with viewings going on above looking down. The extractor hood didn't work. I did notice there were a lot of cobwebs in the property which was mentioned on another review. The area has nothing. You can't safely walk to a pub. So of you want absolutely nothing then its good. We got a little bored. Beds comfy. WiFi good. Hottub nice once hot. Just dropped 2 stars for the location and cobwebs.

  • "A lovely, well presented property, very clean and comfortable."

Being older people with a dog we found it impossible to access the dog walking fields up the very steep, wet, grass banking. It would be wonderful if the site had some graduated paths up the bankings. With the site being on a busy single track lane, we couldn't walk anywhere off site either. We visited some lovely places in the area when we did drive out, but anyone without transport would be very isolated.

  • "Accomodation was just as advertised."

Instuctions were clear and the standard was excellent. The verandah is fully enclosed which is useful for dogs/young children. We made use of the hot tub which was great The park itself is quiet and the adjacent field is perfect for dogs. 2 very minor comments - several bulbs in the kitchen/outside area were not working. Ideally would have appreciated access from 4.00pm

  • "6 Badgers retreat was a home from home warm, clean and comfortable with everything provided that one would need."

The only downside was the cleanliness of the outside decking due to thick cobwebs particularly around the gate and hot tub. We would have been happy to see to this but there was not an outside brush this however would not stop us from staying there again.

  • "Another great week at this lovely lodge[3rd visit] but i must say that now new lodges have been placed directly behind no 6 that a full screen is needed around the hot tub because when the new lodges are occupied they will have a birds eye view of anyone using the hot tub at no6."

The fridge door needs attention and with no6 being pet friendly a more powerful vacuun cleaner is needed.we would love to return if the privacy issue around the hot tub is addressed

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
