  • "The cottage was very comfortable and the living room cosy."

The kitchen was large and generally well equipped, though it would have been useful to have more than one pan. While basics, tea, coffee were provided, I had to go and buy sugar as I hadn’t taken any. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms clean, but again, while large bottles of shower and hand gel were provided, it was difficult to use this in the shower, so I went and bought a smaller bottle. The on street parking would challenging with a larger car than mine, but as stated there is plenty of space in the car park further down the lane. It’s a lovely cottage, and just a few tweaks would make it perfect.

  • "The property is very nice and well equipped and under other circumstances I would have loved my stay there but there were a couple of issues."

Firstly the cleanliness of the downstairs rooms which I brought up with the owner. The kitchen really needs a good clean. Secondly, as Skyes and the owner are aware, the electric heaters downstairs were not working despite being connected to the electricity. This was not rectified in the 10 days I stayed there. Instead the owner brought logs so I could light the very small woodburner. Although this helped a little after being lit for a couple of hours in the evening, it did not help in the morning when the house was very cold and it resulted in an uncomfortable stay. An offer of compensation was made although despite leaving the property some days ago, nothing has been received. It´s a pity there is no survey for Sykes themselves as their customer service, once you have booked, is the worst I have ever experienced.

  • "This is a lovely cottage, which was spotlessly clean and equipped with all one could need for a breakaway in North Yorkshire."

The village of Wolsingham is great as a base for exploring the locale and Lavender Cottage is but a short walk away from all the amenities, local store, takeaways, coffee shop, etc. Our venerable Miniature Schnauzer also enjoyed her stay and particularly liked the doggy treats that were available. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough!

  • "Well equipped, cosy and clean cottage."

The garden description is inaccurate as says "private and secluded". The garden is open to the neighbours and visitor book says dog must be kept on lead in garden. No mention of this on website. Due to this we did not sit out. However, seemed to be ok for neighbour's dog to wander about our garden side and got home one day to find it had done its business on our lawn and we had to pick it up. Electricity meter in sittingroom ticks and buzzes loudly constantly. Neighbour parked their car right over the cottage front door a few times so you would not be able to get out with a pram or buggy. House is on a busy road and lorries start hammering past from about 5am. TV is very small and owners seem in no rush to replace after larger one broke as described in previous reviews. Loved the area and locals are friendly.

A new larger TV has been purchased and will be set up ready for the next guests. The garden is private and separated from the neighbours garden by large trees. However, it is not fenced so we ask guests to keep dogs on a lead. Property Owner

  • "What a fantastic holiday home from home, the hosts have got the ambience & comfort levels spot on, we'd forgotten our pet dog's water bowl, no problem there was one on the shelf!"

! The property is ideally located, close to local amenities, we ate at the nearby Italian restaurant & had a wonderful meal. Our only mild criticism would be of the mattress on the single bed, it felt like you were sleeping on a ship! Other than that the house is spotless, everything works well & the hosts were extremely apologetic about having had to replace the television with a smaller one due to last minute fault on the previous model. Would certainly stay again if in the area, found it an ideal base for visits to the Northumberland Coast, city of Durham & Hadrian's Wall.

  • "Parking issue with neighbour on first day - resolved amicably."

Ants in hall way. TV remote / TV don't work properly for about 15 mins. Otherwise all excellent

  • "Specifically booked this accommodation on basis had a garden and was pet friendly."

However the garden was not exclusive as it was not separated from next door garden. Only when reading information pack in cottage did we get told dog had to be on a lead when in garden. No mention of that in the description of property online. Access from the street to back doors of the two adjacent properties is via a path which goes directly past cottage's kitchen window . Greatly reduces privacy of the property.Again no reference in online description to there being a mutual path right outside the window.

  • "Well equipped and comfortable."

Lots of crockery, cutlery so you could leave using the dishwasher for a few days, towels and toilet rolls (unusual). En-suite shower room was fit for purpose, but we did use the main bathroom for teeth cleaning etc. Lovely welcome pack. Lovely walks around the village especially if you have a dog. We parked at the front of the cottage with no issues and did use the Community Centre car park on the odd occasion. Local shop had all the basics, there is a Spar a short distance away which has it's own butchery. No.10 is licensed and does a lovely breakfast and Peggotty's has wonderful pastries and cakes. Garden gets the early afternoon sun and is pleasant and quiet.
