  • "We all had a lovely time at Hillside House."

When we arrived the key code given by sykes was incorrect but the owners had sent a message with the correct code (I had just not seen this) and we were sorted in minutes. House was warm and well presented on arrival. Sofas and beds all super comfy and lots of space for everyone to relax. We really appreciated having things like dishwasher tablets, hand soap, rubbish bags etc provided. Although we couldn't find a recycling bag or box so took our recycling home.

  • "The property is beautiful with stunning views from the bedroom."

The snug was nice and cosy with an extremely comfy sofa in the living room and a huge TV. The kitchen had all the utensils, pots and pans etc that you could possibly need with a large dining table big enough for 10. The bathrooms were gorgeous and the top floor room had a bath in the bedroom. I would highly recommend this accommodation and wouldn't hesitate to return.

  • "After a 5 hour drive we arrived at Hillside House at 9 pm."

The key code provided by Sykes was wrong; when I phoned the owner he said that he had sent us an update by Whatsapp with the correct key code. As I am not on Whatsapp I had not received this update. When we got in the property it was clear that something was wrong - it smelt musty. On checking the rooms we found that it had not been serviced since the last occupants. There were piles of dirty bed linen by each bed, the carpets were dirty. When we phoned the owner, he was clearly shocked and contacted the cleaner straight away. The cleaner arrived by 9:30 pm with 2 assistants and assured us that the house would get a 'quick clean' in only 2 hours; however,by this time we had decided to return home; this was to be a treat to celebrate my wife's birthday. When she saw the house she was so upset and said that she did not want to stay. I drove home, getting home at 2 am. We asked for a refund of the £1788 paid for 6 days; the owner offered us £200 as compensation for the 'inconvenience', which we declined. We have rented from Sykes Cottages on 7 occasions in the last 11 months and have stayed in some delightful cottages but we have been so disappointed with this experience.

  • "A beautiful, luxurious house that is perfect for a stay in the The Yorkshire Dales."

Outside space is limited but that didn't affect us as the weather was typical of early March. The attic room was chilly and the additional heater didn't really make a significant difference so perhaps a larger one would help during winter month. The Aythgarth Falls Hotel serves really good food and has an extensive menu. We would definitely recommend this property. Many thanks to the owners for their attention to detail, which makes Hillside House extra special. Andrew.

  • "On the whole, a very enjoyable stay."

Beautiful property only a short walk from Aysgarth Falls. We really enjoyed the modern, stylish decor while it still had the character of an older property. Very well equipped with plenty of beautiful crockery etc. Extremely comfortable beds and bedding. We had 10 people and it still didn't feel too busy. Such a lovely place. A couple of small niggles, bathrooms were cold and water spilt out of the showers soaking the floors very easily. Would still recommend.

  • "We loved our stay."

Its in a beautiful location and the cottage was beautiful. Everything we required was there. We had an issue with the electric as a fuse shorted and it was sorted out quickly and easily. The only small issues were the top bedroom was cold but its winter and its an old house so its to be expected. Also bathrooms were cold and the shower did overflow very easily which left the floor wet very quickly. But these are minor flaws and wouldnt stop me from staying in the cottage again or reccomending my clients to stay there.
