  • "We had a lovely stay with our daughter and granddaughter The cottage was wet equipped however the furniture was a little tired Parking was an issue."

We couldn’t park near the cottage as there was a bmw parked outside the cottage all week. It never moved and ended up parking at the end of the one way street this meant as we took 2 cars one of the cars was rarely used and consequently ended up covered in sticky tree sap The games room was a big hit with our 6 yr old granddaughter We do feel that many cottages say they are dog friendly but when you arrive there are a list of things dogs can’t do ie get on the furniture or go upstairs. This criticism is not only aimed at cuckoo cottage Or dog is allowed on our furniture and sleeps on our bed. It makes any holiday more stressful than it needs to be when you’re trying to keep the dog off the sofa and from going upstairs. She doesn’t understand why she has to stay downstairs when we go to bed Overall the cottage was lovely. The underfloor heating is a nice touch and the bathroom is modern and spacious. The floors upstairs feel a little less well supported and are very noisy and creaky The cottages back seating area though small is a sun trap but could do with a tidy up On the whole we had a lovely time and would recommend the cottage to our none dog owning friends

Thanks for your comments Debbie, here and in our guest book. All criticism and suggestions are welcome to help us improve our offering for future guests. We are pleased that you had a lovely time and that you concluded that you would recommend Cuckoo Cottage. This is an ancient building in a narrow old lane in a traditional village. On street parking is available to all and on our 6 weekly visits we have always managed to find a place within 50 yards of the front door if not always immediately outside. There are clear markings on the road to encourage consideration for all residents, and we have always found this to be the case on our visits. This is not under my control but I will ask Sykes to consider updating the description. I’m afraid creaky floors and period furniture go with the age and style of the accommodation on offer - it’s what drew us to holiday in Cuckoo Cottage five years ago, and then to return, and then to buy it and try to re-create the same ambiance, atmosphere and comfort. 85 out of the 122 bookings we have had since we took over have been guests with dogs, many returning for another stay. We welcome all dogs - our’s loves it here. It is important that the information given at the point of booking is clear and not misleading, which is why the Sykes listing states, “Dogs must be kept on the ground floor at all times” as do most holiday lets. We also have to consider guests without dogs and keep the bedrooms free of potential allergens. Thank-you for your care and attention to these common requests. Property Owner

  • "A totally superb cottage."

Beautifully and tastefully renovated. Extremely comfortable and absolutely everything a guest needs catered for. The owners deserve every praise for the thoughtfulness they have put into making visitors comfortable and welcome. Being a map lover, my husband was particularly pleased with the Cuckoo Cottage personalised ordinance survey map! So much to do within close proximity, but coming from fairly flat Suffolk, our two dogs took some time to get used to the hills of the dales!

Thanks for the lovely feedback Celia. I do hope your pooches have recovered from their hilly ordeal! Kind words are our reward for the effort we put in to make our second home as comfortable and accommodating as we can, so it is much appreciated. • "The cottage was well positioned in Pately Bridge close to all amenities."

It provided an excellent base for a walking holiday. The cottage was cozy and renovated to a high standard. It was a well equipped kitchen with everything we needed to cook each night. Bathrooms and downstairs toilet good and the shower was excellent . Beds very comfortable. It was great to be able to take the dog. My only suggestion was the outside furniture could have been a bit better. The garden bench had a bent seat and was uncomfortable . The 2 white garden chairs and table needed a bit of attention . That said, excellent accommodation and would book again

Thanks for the detailed feedback Sarah and for the suggestions. Positive criticism is always useful and welcome. I'll take a look at the warped slats on the bench and maybe a lick of paint on the cast patio furniture when we are next there. In the studio games room there are two additional folding patio chairs that you would find more comfy. I'm pleased you found the cottage cozy and had everything you needed. We'll look forward to your next visit. Property Owner

Close to the shops, cafes, pubs etc. There is also a park close by with open space to walk your dog. There is a parking space for one car in front of the cottage on a quiet road. The cottage is well stocked with everything you need for your holiday. WiFi was good. It has a lovely small, private outdoor space which catches the sun from later morning through the afternoon. Ideal for a glass of wine in the sun after a long walk. If I had to make any suggestions for improvement they would be a bigger TV and a hose for the outside tap to wash the dog down if they get muddy.

Thanks for your review Eileen, I'm very pleased Cuckoo Cottage met expectations. More mixing bowls, a block of 5 knives with sharpening steel, and two more saucepans have been added to the kitchen equipment as you suggested. It's tricky to defrost the freezer with only a couple of hours between bookings, and of course freezers should be full of food to work effectively, which never happens in a holiday cottage. The cleaners have been asked to keep a closer eye on it. The door seal has been checked and anti-frosting mats fitted. Hopefully that will remedy that Property Owner

Thanks for the review Sue, I'm pleased Cuckoo Cottage met expectations. The listing states that parking is on street. These historic stone cottages rarely have off road parking. Our lovely neighbours leave the space immediately outside clear, but sometimes visitors to the farmers market or day hikers will use the space as there is no restriction. I have always found parking within 50 paces of the cottage. No other guests have commented on parking so I must assume you were unlucky when you visited. The coffee machine was damaged and removed for repair. The photos have now been updated. There is a cafetière and fresh ground coffee. The TV is 24" with DVD slot and Freeview Play. I'm afraid we don't watch much TV so have always found it adequate for my needs. I'll definitely consider your comment when it needs replacing. Property Owner
