It’s a lovely area and there was lots of information to assist choices of where to visit
-

The cottage is extremely comfortable, with great views, and everything you need. Owners very friendly, and hospitable. Really close to various attractions.
-
"We couldn’t fault anything with the property, beautiful setting the cottage was warm and everything worked extremely efficiently."
Liz and Tom were on hand if you needed anything and their hospitality was second to none. Very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kestrel Cottage.
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Kestrel Cottage."
Liz and Tom are great hosts, welcoming us on arrival with home baking was a lovely touch. The cottage is really cozy thanks to the underfloor heating and has all of the facilities and equipment you could wish for, a home from home.
-
"Simply perfect, could not fault this property."
Owner went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and would definitely go back and would recommend it to family and friends. The home baking was a bonus and appreciated.
-
"Incredibly friendly and helpful owners."
The cottage was fantastic. It was really well-equipped and was very dog-friendly, with secure a garden. Great location and stunning views.
-
"The cottage and owners were lovely, the only thing wrong was the road to the cottage, the first part of the road was full of deep pot holes."
We did find an alternative route on the last couple of days were we we drove to silsden and followed that road which was a lot better. We had a lovely stay and the views were lovely.
-
"A wonderful stay in a lovely cottage with amazing hosts."
Liz and Tom were helpful throughout but not overbearing in their attention. The scones and home made jam were amazing - and the cottage was in a peaceful spot, with a log shed well-stocked with fire-lighting materials, which made the stay extra cosy! We would thoroughly recommend this cottage and we would definitely return. Thanks Liz and Tom!
-
"What a delightful cottage,in a beautiful rural location with views up the Aire valley towards Skipton."
Many places to visit within a 1 hours drive and great walks from the cottage. Tom and Liz were perfect hosts and the cottage was well equipped to a high standard warm and cosy, superb
-
"Very friendly hosts."
Supplied with lovely treats. Dog friendly. Great views. Very well equipped.
-
"What a lovely cottage."
We wanted for nothing. Scones and cakes also were provided which were delicious. Especially liked the map on the wall that enabled us to plan cracking walks which were contained in the superb files provided by Tom and Liz.
-
"Wonderful stay at Kestrel Cottage."
Super clean and well equipped with everything we needed plus amazing views over the surrounding area. The owners are so lovely, welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone visiting the area.
-
"This is one of the best cottages on the site."
We have now visited twice, and found the hosts to be generous and helpful, making sure that all we needed was made available in a very timely manner. I would recommend this cottage for anyone able bodied.
-
"The owners of this property went above and beyond what you might expect ."
Lovely cottage, beautiful setting & great walks.
-
"Property clean and generally convenient."
Lounge and bedrooms comfortable. Bathroom and downstairs toilet small but well equipped. My wife is disabled with nurses back, but could manage one return trip per day up the stairs, which worked well - she found the turn at the top of the stairs difficult for her due to only one handrail (standard arrangement). I found no problem.
-
"Despite changeable weather, we had a lovely stay at Kestrel Cottage."
The cottage was clean, cosy and had all we needed. The scones were delicious and Liz even brought our daughter some games/puzzles and crispy cakes! Probably the best cottage we have stayed in. Beautiful views and peaceful. Thankyou!
-
"This was the third time we had stayed at Kestrel Cottage and we love the area."
Tom & Liz always make you feel welcome and are happy to help in any way.
-
"Very well equipped and charming cottage with excellent hospitality provided by the owners."
Lovely small, sheltered garden to the rear, a real sun trap. Guest information on things to see and do in the area was superb, which even included distances and travelling times from the cottage. Only negative was that we found the double bed a little on the firm side, but we find this with most cottages we stay at (so may be it is us!). Drive up to the cottage is along a narrow lane and track, but is not busy and we didn't meet anything during our week's stay there. All in all one of the best holiday cottages that we have ever stayed at.
-
"Wonderful place to stay."
Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending to anyone. Lovely hosts too who were so helpful. Birdsong all day long.
-
"The cottage was the best we have ever stayed at."
Our hosts were very friendly and kind enough to bring us homemade treats which were delicious. The cottage was clean, comfortable and provided every facility we could possible require. We would happily visit again and recommend it to others who are looking for a peaceful retreat
-
"We had a wonderful stay!"
Cottage very cosy (underfloor heating!) and comfortable with a lot of really thoughtful additions to the "usual furnishings" (array of maps and guides, essentials in the kitchen, supply of wood for the wood burner: delicious homemade scones and jam), lovely hosts, ducks and a pheasant. Highly recommend and hope to stay again!
-
"Yet again a great stay."
The cottage is warm and comfortable with everything you need. Fresh scones and homemade jam when you arrive is a welcome surprise after a long journey. See you again next year.
-
"A lovely cottage, the quality is outstanding, with comfortable underfloor heating and well chosen furniture and fittings."
The owners are very friendly and provided a good welcome. The location is great too, with fantastic views and easy access to the top of Ilkley Moor.
-
"Kestrel cottage is beautifully situated, which gave us much pleasure on arrival."
The cottage itself was warm and the owners generous provision of much more than basics added to our pleasure on arrival. Not only this, but the added touch of fresh scones and a personal welcome was very nice. We were able to quickly work out local walks, thanks to the provision of 6 local walks written by the owners with a map included. I would really recommend this cottage!
-

"Add this to your bucket list!"
!! We had a fantastic holiday at Kestrel Cottage. We loved everything about it. The setting is delightful and brings back many memories of being a child on the farm.. The cottage is beautiful and you want for nothing.. Delicious home made Scones and jam followed by Yorkshire butter tarts (thank you) Liz and Tom are so friendly and make you feel at home straight away. Lots of lovely walks for the dogs and many places to visit just a short drive away.. We will definitely be back as we truly didn't want to leave..
-

Clean, comfortable and very peaceful. Tom and Liz are brilliant hosts everything you need tea, coffee and milk all waiting for you when you arrive with and added bonus of homemade scones with homemade jam delicious. We would highly recommend a stay here.

"A beautiful, cosy cottage in a wonderful location."
Fantastic walks in every direction with good local facilities providing all you need. Tourist attractions like Ilkley, Saltaire and Skipton just a short drive away for days when you don't fancy walking. Homemade scones and jam on arrival set the tone. Thank you for a fabulous break.
-
"Excellent cosy cottage with superb views."
If you enjoy walking, it is in a perfect location with a number of walks starting and ending at the cottage. Tom and Liz are super hosts.
-
"Wonderful cottage very cosy with the lovely underfloor heating and log burner."
The owners have thought of everything they provided within the cottage and could not have been more welcoming with the beautiful home baking, milk and Prosecco. We will definitely visit again thank you!
-
"Thank you for your friendly welcome to Kestrel cottage which was lovely and warm in this grey December."
It was extra good to know the heat came from a ground source heat pump along with good insulation. I liked the layout, while it is quite compact, the dining/sitting room is spacious and comfortable and your refurbishment (or rebuild?) has obviously been done with great care and thought. I hope we can come back, I enjoyed the direct access to Ilkley Moor and the view over the lights of the surrounding towns at night was great. Next time I hope to see the cottage and hills in sunshine rather than fog or low cloud.
-
"This is the best cottage we have ever stayed in."
.. beautiful location, pet friendly, well appointed and perfectly equipped. I would thoroughly recommend visitors to consider Kestrel Cottage for a fantastic holiday break.
-
"Our expectations of Sykes cottages are always high, as they always have been met, but Kestrel cottage exceeded our expectations!"
Tom and Liz are excellent hosts, warm, friendly, caring, and supportive. The cottage is extremely comfortable and very well equipped. It is the best we've stayed in with Sykes. The location is fabulous with wonderful views. Beautifully peaceful and restful it forms a great hub for walks and visits in the area and the nearby village of Silsden covers most needs. The cottage contains a lot of material on places of interest and a folder of excellent walks. We especially enjoyed visits to Saltaire and Haworth, to see the Bröntes parsonage museum. The ride on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway was wonderful and Bolton Abbey and walks excellent. The highlight of the walks was Ingleton Waterfalls which although a bit of a drive it was spectacular. An absolutely fantastic holiday!
-
"We had an amazing week at Kestrel cottage."
So peaceful and beautiful. The owners Tom and Liz were lovely, leaving us scones and jam and then homemade cakes. There was everything you could possibly need in the cottage. We would defi ately stay again.
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kestrel Cottage."
It had everything you what for a comfortable, relaxing holiday. Although the garden is open to passersby, it was especially appreciated for the views, tranquility and nature. Tom and family were very friendly and hospitable. A welcome basket of homemade scones and jam was very much enjoyed. You feel you're in the middle of nowhere, but in reality you're a stones throw away from the town of Silsden, so you get the best of both worlds. You can just enjoy the local walks from the cottage, or use it as a base for the many nearby attractions. If you love wildlife then there's much aplenty. We thoroughly recommend Kestrel Cottage and plan to come again!
-
"Everything was perfect, especially the idyllic location."
Liz and Tom thought of every detail to make this well equipped cottage cosy, warm and homely. Lovely touches included milk in the fridge, home made scones and jam. They went above and beyond to make this the best cottage stay ever!Thank you
-
"Good restfull location, but not good if you have mobility problems."
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed the position of the cottage."
The views were fantastic. You might consider mentioning the cottage is only just outside Silsden but it is a very steep incline. The owners made us feel very welcome.
-
"This little cottage was the cleanest and best equiped we have EVER stayed in."
-
"We have been here three times now."
The owners are very friendly and helpful. The cottage has everything you could ask for. It is very well equipped and comfortable. It is in a good area for visiting many places, and is the only one that we have returned to. We will be back!
-
"Cottage is in an isolated location and the hosts are really nice and helpful people, has several walks you can do from the doorstep."
All in all had a really good week
-
"A really enjoyable weeks break in kestrel cottage, the cottage itself is spotless and is equipped with everything you need."
We loved the enclosed garden which was great for our dog, also you have use of the large grassed area at the front. There are lots of great walks straight from the door of the cottage, and the views are spectacular. All in all a very relaxing week and I wouldn't hesitate recommending the cottage as its fantastic, also a big thanks to the owner "liz" for her home cooking, the scones, cakes & biscuits were delicious. Will definitely go back.
-
"Kestrel Cottage is a really cosy and warm away from it all retreat."
The weather was horrendous when we went but you wouldn’t have really known that from inside. The cottage is well equipped but we think would have benefitted from a proper arm chair in the living room as there were three of us and we struggled a little to get comfy for the evening. The dogs loved the space to run around outside chasing a ball and the rear enclosed garden was perfect for letting them out in the evening. Our bed was a little firm for us but that’s always personal taste, but we were always warm enough. It is a rural escape and because of that we did encounter a few problems with the WiFi, phone signal and tv reception but as I said the weather was awful so may have contributed to that. All in all though we had a lovely peaceful stay and the board games provided were really useful. The owners are really nice and did check in on us from time to time and as other people have said the scones, butter and jam are a really thoughtful touch.
-
"Liz and Bill are fantastic hosts making us feel very welcome."
The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. A fabulous location too.
-
"I don't think the photos did the property justice, it's really lovely inside."
Tom and liz were really friendly and had baked scones for our arrival, even giving us a pot of homemade jam too. We had such a great weekend
-
"What can i say!"
blown away by Kestrel Cottage. Stunning location and the cottage was just perfect. Truely a home from home. Everything you would need and more. The guys on site could not have been more welcoming and helpful!
-
"Kestrel cottage was a lovely cottage in stunning surroundings, & the owners were very welcoming & couldn't do enough for us, scones, cakes homemade jam, also great to have milk, tea, coffee all there so after a long drive you can make a cuppa before unpacking, would defiantly recommend to family & friends."
-
"Beautiful cottage with fantastic views and great walks."
Tom and Liz go above and beyond to make your stay very comfortable. We would highly recommend this cottage.
-
"Delightful cottage, picturesque setting with panoramic views."
Well appointed and presented. Welcoming hosts, with delicious scones and jam on arrival. Ideal for exploring the southern Dale's
-
"This cottage is the best I have ever rented The owners should be congratulated for its excellence."
-
"Such a cosy warm cottage."
Surrounded by wildlife, actually hand fed a male pheasant n back garden. Clear air and beautiful views. Owners were exceptionally helpful.
-
"The owners were convivial and made sure to greet us."
The cottage was very comfortable, very clean and well equipped - the welcome pack included milk, ground coffee, scones and locally made jam. There were a range of walking books, a well thought out directory and file of things to do within an hours drive, local walks from the cottage, reading books and games. We had a most enjoyable stay.
-
"Cottage very well equipped and spotless."
Owners very welcoming and friendly. Lots of great walks with spectacular views but be warned very hilly.
-
"Everything was perfect!"
It was a home away from home for the 4 weeks we stayed whilst having work done on our home. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed plus lovely extras provided by Liz. The cottage is lovely and warm and so peaceful with stunning scenery. We honestly couldn’t have asked for more, Liz and Tom were absolutely fabulous! Thank you for making our stay so pleasant. Would 100% recommend :-)
-
"The care and attention to detail by Liz & Tom was wonderrf."
Great cottage - great location
-
"What a wonderful cottage."
As I had to attend a course in a nearby village, Tom(owner) was more than willing to let us arrive an hour early so that I could leave most of my luggage and get the feel of the cottage, before rushing off for 2days. There was milk, tea, coffee and cakes waiting for us and unlike many other self-catering properties all the basics were in place. No need to buy toilet rolls, tissues, soap or cleaning items. Clean and comfortable and beautifully warm. All we needed was there, and the wall map of places to visit and folder of corresponding information, was inspired. Information on how to find the property, including a small local map, meant we already knew that there were supermarkets etc near by so food shopping could be done on arrival. The garden was very safe for our dog. We have already passed on the details to several friends as we thought it was great value for money, a real ‘home from home’. Many thanks,Tom and Liz.
-
"Kestrel cottage is a really cosy and well equipped cottage."
Everything you need and more. Lovely hosts too.
-
"Wonderful cottage that has been fantastically converted from it original purpose as farm buildings."
It is furnished and equipped to very high standards. Wonderful hosts, very friendly and welcoming would definitely want to return. Set in a magnificent location overlooking the town of Silsden and with beautiful views of Yorkshire Dales countryside. Tasty homemade scones and homemade damson jam were there to welcome us. Booking through booking.com didn't provide the best experience as our details were not passed to Sykes properly. Glad I rang to verify directions as the booking.com directions were wrong. Once through to Sykes the lady sorted things out very efficiently, would have been easier if we had been aware of Sykes and booked through them.
-
"Our second stay and both times have been great."
Lovely hosts, everything we needed including scones and jam.
-

"Liz and Tom made us feel at home in the very comfortable cottage Kestrel."
The cottage is wel equipped and has a nice gardens. We loved to be in the countryside and to have the opportunity to discover the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. With our dog we had nice walks in the countryside which starts just before the front door.
-
"The access to the property has a lot to be desired we expected it to be narrow ..."
The access to the property has a lot to be desired we expected it to be narrow but it was very overgrown with trees making it even more so
-
"Had a brilliant holiday, Cottage was amazing, well situated for walking and exploring, very accommodating for our two dogs."
-
"They say you get what you pay for in life."
Well in this case you get more than you pay for. Small extras were all included like providing milk, tea, coffee, extra toilet rolls, hand cleaner, wash up liquid etc all the things you normally have to take, or purchase once there. Owners were very polite and helpful. Cottage was very clean and well presented. Would recommend when using a sat nav to always start from the town as some of the roads from the cottage, if you turn left out of the lane, are a little adventurous. Would highly recommend.
-
"My husband and I stayed with our toddler and 6 month old baby."
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is very well equiped. Liz and Tom had thought of everything from washing machine pods to coffee and this made our stay very easy. Since (well behaved) dogs are allowed to stay I did wonder (despite the excellent reviews) whether I would be able to let our 6 month old crawl aound on the floor, but I needn't have worried, everything was perfect. We would definitely recommend staying here and would very much like to stay again in the future.
-
"Absolutely stunning cottage in a beautiful location."
We could not fault the cottage or the hosts, its gets 5 stars from us.
-
"The little extras like the homemade scones and jam that greeted us."
Also we didn’t need to worry about the necessities like toilet roll, soap, and milk as Tom and Liz had put them in the cottage- it’s these little touches that make all the difference
-
"Fantastic cottage."
Well equipped and very comfortable. Very friendly owners.
-
"Warm welcome from the owners with freshly baked scones and jam."
Beautiful views from the property. Every comfort provided for. Well renovated accommodation with pretty little garden.
-
"We had an amazing holiday, so much so that we have plans to return."
-
"Our second visit which proves how much we enjoy this place."
It's a very quiet cottage surrounded by hills and good views, but the local village is only a few miles away if supplies are needed. Great that it's dog friendly too.
-
"We were delighted with Kestrel Cottage."
It was cosy and comfortable, immaculately clean and tastefully furnished. Our hosts were welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The little touches they provided - fresh flowers, homemade scones and jam - were very well received. An excellent base for our walking holiday and we will definitely return. Thank you Liz and Tom.
-
"Wonderful hilltop location giving a fantastic views."
Cottage was perfect in every way. Very comfortable with underfloor heating and a log burner if needed. Very well equipped with everything you could wish for. Great for the dog too with an enclosed garden complete with fresh running water! Owners were very welcoming and provided excellent information and guides for the area. Great walks both locally and in surrounding areas including the beautiful Bolton Abbey. Great shopping and restaurants too in nearby Skipton and Ilkley. Plenty of pubs and takeaways too down the hill in Silsden. Will definitely return!
-

About the location
SILSDEN
Bolton Abbey 8.5 miles; Ilkley 8.5 miles; Skipton 9 miles.
The pretty town of Silsden, set on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, commands sweeping views of the River Aire and its valley, and has a thriving community with local amenities. Although Silsden was originally an agricultural town, the construction of the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal meant that it later became an important centre for the mill industry, however the local economy is now largely supported by tourism, and it has become a perfect place to stay and explore the local area. Down the Aire Valley lies historic Skipton, known as “The Gateway to the Dales”, a quaint market town boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2008, the Academy of Urbanism voted the high street as the best shopping spot in Britain. In the next valley lies Addingham, a thriving, small community with several good pubs serving fine ale and excellent food, a scattering of small shops and a delightful golf course surrounded by breathtaking countryside. Nearby Bolton Abbey is one of the region's most scenic areas and the walk along the river to the Strid is a must. The Victorian Spa town of Ilkley is also worth a visit, with its wide streets, world-famous Box Tree Restaurant and Bettys Tea Rooms, while Ilkley Moor is the subject of Yorkshire's unofficial anthem “On Ilkla Moor Baht at”. With steam railways offering regular excursions through stunning scenery, canal day trips, castles and pretty market towns all available nearby, Silsden is a wonderful base for touring the Bronte Country and North and West Yorkshire.
