  • "Sadly, this cottage did not live up to our expectations."

The instructions to find the cottage are quite inadequate. We thought the interior looked very tired with threadbare carpets and over worn sofas. Spiders seem to have been busy around the fireplace weaving their webs. Our bed was not comfortable. We did though obtain a discounted price which we very much appreciated.

I’m sorry you thought sofas where worn but they were new covers that get changed regular. So definitely not old or worn. Can’t really do much about spiders we always get them in the barn. Discount given due to last minute booking not due to issue raised in the review and issues wasn’t raised during your stay. I do hope you had a nice stay and you enjoyed your welcome basket. We were very happy with the accommodation It represented very good value for money and completely met our needs The instructions to find the cottage were a problem as the cafe which we needed to turn by no longer exists and the approach to the barn was extremely tight for our 2 4x4 vehicles so parking was very tight

The welcome basket on arrival was much appreciated- thank you! Great Sky TV, games room with Wii console for the kids, lots of space, comfy beds and everything was clean. Maybe someone needs to put a blind up in the room with the single day bed though as it was really bright, really early? I know what people mean about the water pressure upstairs but it was no big deal. We had a lovely meal out at The Devonshire Arms next door. There’s no back garden just to make future guests aware - only room for two cars at the front which was fine for us. Overall a really nice stay in a beautiful location.

Good size for our party. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of room to sit around and play games, watch TV or sit and talk. The local pub, which was just around the corner, was fabulous to celebrate the New Year. A lovely welcome basket was a nice surprise and well appreciated ( even the dog got a treat) On arrival it was difficult to find as the late check in time as it was dark. Tried to contact using number provided but no one answered. Had to stop and ask for directions. Overall we had a pleasant stay.

Few things need addressing. Poor hot water pressure especially in two bathrooms. Could do with a mattress that fits base or visa versa in main bedroom, a second bedside table and proper pillows.

  • "We enjoyed our stay and the location was perfect with great walks from the barn."

Plenty of amazing sights and places to visit all within an hour drive. We found the barn lovely and comfortable to stay in with a well equipped kitchen and lovely lounge to relax in with a blazing fire in the evening. Without the fire the lighting in the lounge is quite dark with only 2 wall lights and 1 standing lamp. My sons loved the Wii and the vast amount of games they could play. However from reading the visitor book we noticed that comments from last year had not be addressed by the owners. The hot water was still scalding and the shower in the shared bathroom was erratic to use, all mentioned in reviews. We also didn't realise, from the writeup, that the day bed was in a room you had to go through to access the 2 double bedded room. This made it awkward for the person sleeping in the room as you had to always walk through their room to also use the toilet in the night. The double bedroom has no wardrobe or chest of drawers to put clothes in, we had to either keep our clothes in our cases or put them in the many wardrobes in the other bedrooms. I can't ever remember staying anywhere without clothes storage in a bedroom. This is a shame as if these had been addressed would have been an amazing place in a fantastic location.

Thank you for your feedback we have just brought a skyglass tv which will make it easier for guest just one controller. I know barns are dark we’ve brought another stand up light which makes it a lot lighter.. I’ve had the plumber check the showers and I’ve checked too must make sure setting is right. In the double room we’ve put a rail for clothes and a chair. So thank you for your feedback and all issues we’ve sorted. Hope we’ll see you again Amanda the owner of fawcetts barn Property Owner

A couple of gripes in that the bed mattress in the main bedroom was on the hard side and left a gap exposing the wooden side framework which was uncomfortable if you caught your ribs on it. Parking very tight and due to low rocks caught and scrapped underside of both cars. Also kettle leaking. In summary a positive stay and a very nice touch to be provided with a welcome basket of supplies

  • "Lovely to see beautiful flower baskets outside and warm on entering the barn."

Walks from the door onto the fell above were easy to access and the surrounding area offered many more. The WiFi was excellent. Towels were plentiful and soft. We thought the lighting wasn’t adequate enough for the old barn. The price of the cottage did not reflect the quality of the furnishings which were a bit Spartan. Poor quality dirty carpets upstairs. Internal windows dirty with cobwebs. The Kitchen was well equipped but it was impossible to read the cooker/ oven controls. All floors downstairs were dirty with the kitchen floor damaged with a poor makeshift repair. There weren’t any coat hooks to hang wet coats and a toilet brush and more shelves in the bathrooms would be useful. There was dog dirt on the grass on arrival. We note previous advice has not been taken. Much thought is required.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologise that your stay wasn't up to standard, however, my cleaner prides herself on her cleaning standards and always provides me with images post clean before every check in. My cleaner was devastated to read the feedback, especially as I know the standard the property is left in. My number is left in the welcome pack for any queries and would have been more than happy to come over immediately and attend to any issues presented. Unfortunately this did not happen. In regards to the coat hooks, there is a large metal rack in the utility/ garage for such purposes. We do not leave toilet brushes out as we don't feel the necessity as the property is cleaned to such a high standard between each set of guests. But for guest who still want a toilet brush they are news ones in garage and cupboard in main bathroom. But if guest use they have to be put in the bin after there stay as I don’t think different guest should use the same ones. I hope you enjoyed your stay regardless. Property Owner

  • "The barn is a lovely building and there is lots of room for a family of 6."

Location good for walks. Thanks for allowing the extra dog .The local cafe was a gem.Lots of TV channels /games.There is a lack of good lighting in the kitchen and lounge. Oven trays need burnt lumps of food removed and front cleaning. We ate out. Shower has a very weak flow, but we could see why, this should be included in the details. Information pack advised us when to use bottle water. Kitchen floor had suffered from a leak so we moved bin and stool over it to stop the dogs catching their paws. No problem doing this as totally understood hard to get sorted between bookings. Lack of cups and mugs particularly as there is a dish washer. Cleaning is very poor in many places. I was shocked at the state of the mattress in the main bedroom when I removed the mattress protector as instructed with linen at the end of the stay. I had thought and trusted it would be clean. It was soiled with numerous stains and had seen better days, photo available on request. I would never expect anyone to sleep on such an item, it is disrespectful to your guests who work hard to save for holidays. I felt very sad and let down by the owners. Bedroom door would not shut. It would be fair to say outdoor space was decorative rather than of use. I would urgently suggest less it spent on the welcome pack which was lovely and more on maintenance. We have all had two years of challenging times and being together of course was wonderful, But sadly I would not book again unless the points above were sorted out.

  • "There was a lot to like about the property - very spacious with all the facilities inside you would need and the best 'welcome hamper' we've ever received."

The sofas are all really comfortable & the kitchen was more or less fully stocked. The mattress in the master bedroom was on the firm side for me, but that's a personal thing. I think the property needs a little bit of TLC as there were a few little niggly things that could be easily sorted. It's a property that allows a dog, but if you are thinking of taking yours please be aware there is no back garden and whilst the description of the property talks of a lawn at the front of the property, this patch of grass is very small and potentially not safe to leave your dog off of lead due to it being beside the lane. The other big thing for us was how dark the main room of the property is - only 2 small wall lights & without any sunlight during the day (we had periods of sun late afternoon & evening) it can be too dark to do a lot of things such as reading / crosswords etc. A couple of standard lamps wouldn't go amiss!!

We really struggled to get the bedrooms above 16 degrees at night, despite the storage heaters being on and us making a fire in the lounge each evening. Consequently our 8 month old girl couldn't sleep and that meant a sleepless holiday for us all. Therefore regrettably we wouldn't recommend staying in this property in winter.

Thank you for your comments. I would like to assure yourself and our future guests that the property is not cold and there are no faults with the heating facility provided. We display clear instructions advising our guests not to interfere with the heating as it has been set up to ensure the warmth is continuously spread throughout the property. I can see that the heating system was tampered with during your stay. Had we been made aware that you had any issues with understanding the heating system, we would have been more than happy to help. Good location near the Pub which was good, food excellent, quiet but probably because we are in Jan/Feb. Bus service is good to Grassington and walks too. The water pressure for the hot water was very poor so the showers were not great, also the property was cold during the day and really warm at night due to the way the storage heaters worked.
