"The property is really lovely, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the area a bit hilly for us ( in our 70s) but glad we went."
I would recommend this bungalow to everyone, thanks

"The holiday cottage had everything we needed."
Bed comfortable, well equipped kitchen and super shower. Great views from the property and we visited many places. This was our first holiday with the dog and the garden was all enclosed so had no worries. We met Barbara, the owner, who was friendly and helpful.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the cottage and found it dog friendly. Thank you for your positive comments. Property Owner

"We had a lovely time in this cottage."
It had everything you could wish for. Barbara and Nick were very kind. The donkeys were an added bonus when we could feed them. Thank you so much.
We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and found extra pleasure in feeding and observing the seven donkeys. Your comments are much appreciated, thank you. Property Owner

"My wife & I stayed here for 2 weeks in September."
It felt very homely, comfortable & we thoroughly enjoyed it, especially watching the ever changing view from each of picture windows. Our favourite room was the sun lounge with the incredible vistas, and we enjoyed playing some of the games that were left for us. The cottage was nice & clean, and Barbara, the owner, was very helpful and accommodating. My wife, who is an author (Loretta Livingstone) added one of her co-written books (Historical Stories of Exile) to the well stocked library.
Many thanks for your heartwarming comments. Thank you too to Loretta whose book was greatly appreciated and will give pleasure to future guests who enjoy the short story genre. I look forward to seeing you in the future and discussing your literature further. Property Owner

"Spent a week at lower cross with my husband and sister for a well deserved rest."
The place was lovely and we genuinely appreciated our stay there. So quiet and fabulous views. The cottage has everything you need for a self catering holiday and is spic and span everywhere. Beautiful gardens back and front. We did visit lots of local places but unfortunately it rained quite a bit but didn’t spoil our plans at all. Would highly recommend lower cross to everyone. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.
It is so uplifting to hear that guests have thoroughly enjoyed their stay at Lower Cross. Thank you for your generous comments. Property Owner

Your positive comments are much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to enthuse about the cottage. Property Owner
-
"Lovely well equipped property with great views."
Plenty of amenities nearby. Also plenty of options to do things whether it be sightseeing, history or more physical activities. Only slight downside was that it wasn’t really a secure garden for a small dog, but otherwise all good.
-
"This Bungalow is very comfortable and very well equipped with everything you need, with lovely views from the lounge."
Home from home. Geoffrey
Thank you for your lovely feedback and so pleased you enjoyed your time in Brontë country. Property Owner

"One or two of the pots & pans required cleaning before use as did the inside of the microwave which was splattered with food."
The garden room whilst a comfortable place to sit, the back door requires some adjustment. There seemed to be a problem with the washing machine spinner which didn’t seem to work? Overall we had a nice holiday & got out to see the local attractions.
We pride ourselves on thorough cleaning and must apologise that items were missed. The door issue will be investigated but the washing machine spin is working thoroughly. There is an option to remove a spin which must have happened. It was good to chat with you and I wish you had mentioned the issues. I value feedback which will enhance guests’ stay. Property Owner

"Excellent location for Brontë Country."
Very personable host, available if you have any queries. Pristine newly fitted bathroom with fabulous shower. The kitchen was well equipped. Rather too much ‘old fashioned’ furniture, old rugs and far to many unnecessary ornaments for a holiday cottage. But that’s just our taste. However we had a pleasant week. Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback and pleased you had a pleasant week. As you say, ‘personal tastes’ vary. Many guests love the rustic charm and antique rugs. Property Owner

"One of the nicest properties we have stayed in and we have stayed in many."

Barbara the owner was on hand if needed,The weather for the week wasn’t great but we ventured out every day we had a train ride from Oakworth station to Keighley and visited Skipton and Grassington .Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend booking this cottage. James

"Lower Cross is a beautiful bungalow set in equally beautiful surroundings."
The views from the garden, sitting room and main bedroom are so lovely. The garden is very well maintained with plenty of seating in both front and back gardens. The inside of the bungalow is so spacious and very comfortable with plenty of seating in all rooms. Everything you could possibly need can be found in the lovely kitchen. The owner, Barbara made us very welcome and is on hand if you should need anything. There are plenty of really lovely places to visit with Howarth being literally a couple of minutes drive. We can highly recommend this property.
Your positive and glowing feedback is greatly appreciated. Many thanks for taking the time to write so effusively. Property Owner

"A place where you instantly felt at home."
A nice friendly owner who took note and action on any queries. Very well equipped kitchen and a good selection of seating areas. Lovely garden area with lots of birds, chickens and donkeys (at the weekends) which was good for elderly parents to look at and enjoy over a cup of tea. We had fun attempting to play the Yamaha keyboard while Dad sang along to the tunes ! Thanks for providing a lovely premises for a relaxing holiday.
Thank you for your glowing feedback. I’m so pleased you had such a good time. Property Owner

"Cosy and comfortable and in a beautiful part of England."
-
"This is one of the best holiday properties we’ve visited in years."
Everything about it was fantastic, couldn’t ask for anymore. The host Barbara was absolutely fantastic….on hand 24/7 if you needed anything. So much to do around the area. We will definitely be back in the future.

"Lower Cross is comfortable and cosy and just about everything has been thought of."
There are stunning views from the living room, main bedroom and sun room across the beautiful garden to the fields and hills beyond. The sun room is such a bonus, as you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine whilst enjoying the view no matter what the weather. The cottage is very near to Oakworth Railway Station, where The Railway Children was filmed and to Haworth, where the Brontës lived. Grassington is approximately 30 minutes away by car where the new All Creatures Great and Small is filmed, and it's also a short drive to the impressive Malham Cove. There are many nice dog friendly pubs and cafes in Grassington, Haworth and Hebden Bridge. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking. Barbara is a very warm and friendly host.
-
"The cottage was beautifully presented very comfortable and everything was laid on Barbara was extremely friendly and a pleasure to speak and deal with."
Cannot fault at all would highly recommend to everyone.
-
"A lovely clean cottage in beautiful surroundings, in a central location for the Dales."
Would recommend a stay here.
-
"What a delightful bungalow, kitted out with everything we needed."
Beds were so comfortable that we had no problem sleeping after a days ramble. Barbara is a lovely host and I would recommend taking the opportunity to have a chat with her if the opportunity arises. This is a great base to explore that area of Yorkshire.
-
"Lovely relaxing stay not a cobweb in site, we loved sitting in the sun room enjoying the fantastic views and garden."
Everything provided that you need The car never moved as such good walks from the door incorporating pubs at Turkey Inn at Goose Eye and The Grouse which both offered good food, muddy boots and dogs. Walks can be steep in places as expected in this part of the country but then you get the good views, but manageable for us pensioners.
-
"Lovely host Barbara not too intrusive."
Gardens well maintained until the mole appeared but it didn’t bother us. One thing to mention would be a new pair of scissors they were blunt. Overall a lovely stay thanks. Louise
-
"Lovely property, very comfortable and spacious."
Views were beautiful and we loved the garden even if it was too wet to be out in it much! Thank you to the friendly and helpful owner who made us feel at home, we had a really relaxing break.
-
"We had a wonderful stay in an excellent bungalow with exceptional views and everything you could wish for."
One of the cleanest cottages we have stay in. Barbara the owner is next door and is ever so friendly. The only slight issue we had was the heating didn’t heat the bedrooms unless it was very high, Barbara was aware of this and boosted the boiler and is going to call an engineer out. We would recommend the property and the area to anyone.
-
"This cottage is well looked after in all departments."
Maintained really well inside and out. We enjoyed our stay very much and felt comfortable with all provided and what a great place with good country views all round. We were happy with the owner Barbara who cared for anything we needed. I must give a mention to David the neighbour who came and helped me with my car when stuck in the snow. Thanks
-
"Once again an enjoyable stay, warm welcome from Barbara, the owner, and certainly ' value for money ' ."
-
"We had a wonderful half term stay at Lower Cross."
The cottage was beautiful, very spacious and extremely well equipped with everything to make your stay comfortable. The gardens are perfect with donkeys in the field nearby and deer that came to visit one morning! Our host was very welcoming and attention to detail in the house is faultless. I highly recommend this cottage, we will be staying again.
-
"This is a lovely cottage to stay in and the photos of the view do not do it justice."
It was very well equipped and in the perfect position to do all the local attractions. Barbara the owner makes sure your stay is a good one but is not intrusive. She is nearby if you need anything. The cottage is also spacious with plenty of places to enjoy the views if it's not warm enough to sit in the garden. I must mention the king sized bed which is so comfortable it's like floating on air. Thank you to Barbara and family.
-
"Lower Cross is a lovely and comfortable cottage."
The kitchen is well kitted out with just about everything you might need. The beds were comfortable and there was a lovely warm welcome from the owner. The little road down to the cottage is a bit rough so he prepared but it is only a short way down the lane to get to the cottage. We were lucky to see some wildlife during our weeks stay, a lovely little wren paid a visit most days, we had a couple of visits from a tawny owl in the trees in the garden and there were bats flying round at night too. A smart TV wouldn't go a miss as there was only Freeview available but that's just a small thing and certainly didnt spoil our holiday. We would highly recommend Lower Cross.
-
"Yes the property was as advertized very very good great views good location great"
-
"The garden is not secure for dogs and needs fully Fencing off as there are chickens roaming loose ."
There are no instructions for appliances. If you have mobility problems there are steps to the garden. No microwaveable dishes to use. The none slip bath mat doesn't fit and is very slippery.
-
"A warm welcome and a lovely cottage ,with everything that you need ."
Beautiful views from the back garden and peace and quiet . Thank you
-
"Like home from home."
Everything was there if we needed it. Great views. Lovely cottage.
-
"Perfect place to explore places of interest."
Long days searching out historic sites. Rewarded by a cosy ,well equipped , homely environment. Barbara was a great host, lovely person but not imposing on our privacy. Gardens were immaculately tended. Thankyou
-
"A nice little cottage owned by a lovely lady who lives next door."
A perfect get away from it all hideaway which isn't too far away from anything that you may want.we highly recommend it.
-
"The property is ideal for a holiday in the dales."
The facilities are first class with nothing additional needed. Plenty of private parking space and a lovely garden too.
-
"A lovely well-equipped, comfortable property with fantastic views and a frequent bus service to Haworth, Keithley and other places."
Nearby is the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (often steam), famous for the Railway Children film and other well-known TV programmes.
-
"A beautiful cottage with everything you could possibly need."
Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Great views from the cottage. Garden is also very well maintained. First class property and a credit to the owners.
-
"The property was just what we needed as a break to enable us to visit family and friends in the area."
Some not seen since the pandemic. The welcome basket of her own chickens eggs and milk in the fridge was a lovely touch. The view across the pennines, the sound of the Worth Valley steam engine chugging through the valley was priceless. As a Yorkshire girl and so close to Haworth we were able to explore the area walked across the moors during the week was just fabulous. It felt home from home. Barbara was very welcoming and ensured we had all we needed. We will most deffinately stay again. I've already recommended it to several people.
-
"Barbara's cottage is an absolute delight and pleasure it's a credit to her and family would definitely go back again and again."
However after 15+ years of booking with you regarding our 3 hour stay Vane House Osmotherley described as a cottage with gardens/ patio and open plan kitchen was a joke it was a converted bedroom on the back of a bed and breakfast with no TV and a room smaller than a dentist waiting room you sill owe me £255 legal action pending we will go back to Lower Cross but not with you and your £40 booking fee you are a disgrace and a heartless company!
-
"This property is the best it as got everything the owner is a lovely women this is a TEN STAR PLACE"
-
"We said we would return."
.....and we did.....here's to the next time !!
-
"The bungalow was more spacious than the pictures suggested."
Super warm rooms and comfortable beds. Views and sunrise spectacular. Would stay again.
-
"A very comfortable homely cottage, within close proximity of the “Bronte “ countryside yet only a 10 minute drive from Keighley."
Ideally located for those wishing to walk the wonderful Yorkshire countryside, or just sit back and look at the views from the comfort of this lovely cottage. A secure garden is perfect for those who are accompanied by their pets.
-
"A lovely home overlooking the valley."
Very clean and great views over the valley. Well equipped and great off the road parking. Barbara the owner lives next door and a lovely lady. Beautiful walks in the area. I would thoroughly recommend.
-
"Lovely cosy cottage in beautiful surroundings."
-
"Only dificulty was working the TV it was spasmodic for disc usage"
-
"Lovely property more spacious than the pictures show, large peaceful garden with splendid views, well equipped with lots of books and games."
The eggs from the owners hens were much appreciated
-
"Lovely secluded spot tucked away down a steepish hill so watch out for the sharp right then left hand turn although in the instructions it does warn you."
The views were stunning as were the gardens - plenty of spots front and back for shade and sun. Seating front and back. Very quiet -occasional donkey bray from a field further down. Occasional visit from a ginger cat and 3 very well behaved chickens - all added to the country charm! The cottage was more spacious than the photos implied. Very nice kitchen with all good facilities -lovely brown eggs left by Barbara the owner who is very friendly. Just short of some eggcups. Rooms were comfortably furnished and some interesting family trinkets. You can walk to the local Co-Op about 10 mins downhill maybe 20 mins up the steep slope. Pleasant walk to the Oakworth train station and if you are a keen walker can join the 'The Railway Children Trail'. Car required for the pubs -this is the Dales things are spread out! Many lovely things to do for all interests. Railway journeys/museums/stately homes/great walks/shopping at Saltaire or Piece Hall and many other things. Only draw back is the one bathroom for 4 adults but we were aware and made plans to deal with that but with the other lovely things this was easily dealt with. Many thanks to Barbara -lovely holiday.
-
"Gardens ' front and rear ' and so good to have panoramic views from the main bedroom, sitting room, dining room and sun room."
...excellent garden furniture a bonus. *****
-
"Excellent cottage everything you could need and more, views from garden are perfect, the owners where very welcoming and on hand if you have a problem."
. Hope we get a chance to revisit.. .
-
"The listing of the property is incorrect as it is not set in a stunning village of Oakworth, it is more like a suburb of Kieghly."
We expected a village stay what we got was a main road with heavy traffic, no where to set off walking you needed the car for everything.
-
"Lovely clean and comfortable bungalow with beautiful scenic views."
Good base for Howarth and the Moors. Although the garden was not dog secure we did not find it a problem with our dog, just watch out for the free range chickens! Although the owners lived next door they were not intrusive. Thank you to the owners for the provisions on arrival which were aporeciated and for a lovely restful and relaxing holiday despite the wet weather!

About the location
OAKWORTH
Haworth 1 mile; Skipton 10 miles.
Oakworth is a small Pennine village just a short drive from Haworth, overlooking the Worth Valley, made famous by the filming of the classic 1970 film version of E.E. Nesbitt's novel, The Railway Children. Besides its close proximity to Haworth and the moors, Oakworth has an attractive ornamental park, and is within easy reach of the town of Keighley. Nearby Haworth was home to the famous Bronte sisters, who were much-inspired by the surrounding moorland. Haworth has a myriad of curiosity and antique shops, alleyways and cobbled streets creating a wonderful period atmosphere, and all this against a backdrop of countryside famously described in the novel Wuthering Heights. Nearby, the famous Worth Valley Railway, an authentic steam railway brought to prominence in the film The Railway Children, makes a lovely day out, with a regular service to the old village of Oxenhope. The area is full of popular places to visit, including the Bronte Parsonage Museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and the Museum of Rail. The market town of Skipton, Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is just a short drive away, and also within reach are elegant Harrogate, and vibrant Leeds and Manchester.
Please Note: Livestock in surrounding fields, Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Please be mindful of the donkeys in neighbouring field.
