  • "A charming and cosy annex situated in the centre of Ilkley."

The living space is comfortable and warm, with an easy-to-work television, books to read and various holiday guides. A small kitchenette provides most things necessary for a short stay. The bathroom has a modern shower and and is spotlessly clean. An airy and light bedroom completes this small but perfectly formed dwelling. A lovely touch is the bottle of Prosecco in the fridge, which can be enjoyed in the garden seating area if you have the weather! The friendly owners are on hand if you need help, but more than happy to stay in the background for those who enjoy privacy. The one thing I would suggest if you have a lengthy journey to get here - pick up some milk on your way for that all-important cup of Yorkshire tea!

It is compact but well designed. We had a slight issue on arrival but it was quickly and efficiently dealt with by Michael who is very easy to get on with.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and really appreciated your early feedback which meant we were able to respond to your concerns promptly. We do hope to see you at the cottage again in future. Thank you for your custom. Property Owner

  • "The strengths of this cottage are: its location close to the centre of Ilkley in a quiet rear garden; the pleasant garden area; the comfortable bed; and the excellent shower and heated towel rail."

Its weaknesses are its small size which limits the amount and type of furniture, e.g. a very small table and limited hanging space in the bedroom (i.e. hooks on the back of doors); and the television whose controls are fiendishly difficult to operate. The cottage is equipped with most things needed but space for food preparation is limited and there is only a two burner electric hotplate. However, it is fine for breakfasts and lunches. To enjoy the holiday, eat your main daily meal out in one or other of the many good eating places in and around Ilkley. The owner is friendly and helpful with very good knowledge of the area.

It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay while visiting with family in the area. Michael and Kathy were both friendly and welcoming. Getting in and out of the driveway can be tricky. Would recommend reversing in to make access to the road easier and quicker.

The cottage is small but well laid out and enough room for a couple. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything we need. Parking not an issue as the entrance to the drive has been widened. An excellent position 5 mins walk to Ilkley with supermarkets, train and bus stations. Host was very helpful with suggestions of things to see and do. Wonderful walking on the moors and in the beautiful countryside - thank you

Michael was professional, friendly and proffered the perfect balance of privacy and being there if needed (he wasn't as ALL seamless). Parking options are spot on. As per information/arrival instructions. Lovely outdoor space that was made available for our use. 2min walk to public transport and 5mins to town centre! Will definitely return. Thank you again.

Compact and bijou space but more than ample for a couple with all you need for a great base for Ilkley and surrounding area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return. Garden cottage was spotlessly clean and comfortable, great shower room. Lovely bedroom with views out to garden. Quiet but very central location. Owner was very welcoming and helpful with information on the local areas and things to do, of which there are plenty without leaving Ilkley if you don't wish to travel. Would definitely recommend.

The cottage is only 2 mins walk into the town centre. Which is a lovely town. The bed was comfortable and we slept really well. Good shower with a large cubicle. Railway station just 2 mins away. The surrounding area is beautiful and we visited lots of places while there. Yes the cottage is small but perfect for 2 people and the garden is a good size with Bbq if required. We will return.

  • "Very clean and comfortable."

Was surprised how small the living accommodation was. Was not aware there was no wardrobe which we missed.

Thank you for your feedback. Because the property is compact we had to make a decision on furniture. Instead of including such a large piece of furniture as a wardrobe we decided to put hooks on the backs of doors and supply a number of wooden coat hangers. There is also a good sized chest of drawers for items that can be folded. Our other customers have found this to be adequate for their needs. Property Owner

The accommodation was compact which we expected but the only thing that I would make guests aware of was the lack of a hob. It did not bother us as we ate out but think anyone staying a week and wanting to eat in would find it difficult. I would suggest it was clearly stated in the description NO HOB so people could plan before they come The cottage is in an excellent position for the centre of Ilkley and its many shops, restaurants and cafes. Also a good base for visiting surrounding areas. We would certainly recommend this property and would use it again if we would coming to the area.

Thank you very much for your honest feedback. We have now updated the property description to make clear that there is no hob in the kitchen. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

The property

Garden Cottage is a compact, yet well-equipped single-storey annexe resting within the grounds of the main house and only a short walk from the centre of the famous Victorian spa town of Ilkley.

This cosy accommodation is perfect for a solo traveller or a couple to use as a base to explore the surrounding area, considered to be the most popular part of the Yorkshire Dales.

At the end of each day, return to the brightly-decorated open-plan living space, where you will find a small but well- equipped kitchen to make a brew and rustle up snacks, as well as an inviting seating area, where you can unwind in front of the Smart TV.

The shower room includes an electric power shower and heated towel rail.

Concluding this charming property is the bedroom, where quality linens drape across the sumptuous double bed and views of the garden are certain to captivate each morning.

To the exterior, there is a well laid out garden with a large lawn, where table and chairs offer an alternative spot for enjoying drinks and meals, whilst the outdoor chess game will spark some competitive fun on a summer’s day.

A BBQ is available for outdoor cooking, and the garden contains mature fruit trees as well as soft fruit canes - guests are welcome to pick their own fruit if it is in season during their stay!

A short stroll takes you into the town centre where you will find a wealth of superb eateries, including a bar within the historic railway station, The Ticket Office, as well as The Flying Duck which incorporates its own brewing facilities and the famous Betty's Cafe Tea Rooms.

The town, famous for its coffee shops, also hosts an array of independent bars and restaurants to suit all tastes (including pubs, wine bars and gin bars) as well as national chains such as Pizza Express, Bistro Pierre and Banyans.

The town also plays host to a plethora of shopping opportunities, as well as attractions to suit all, including Europe’s smallest 4K cinema, Manor House Trust with its museum, arts and heritage centre and the endearing Toy Museum.

Bolton Abbey is just a short distance out of town by car and is well-worth a visit, being home to the beautiful Priory Church and Ruins, the 60 stepping stones across the river and the walking opportunity within the Valley of Desolation, where you will be rewarded by a beautiful waterfall and views across the moors to Simon’s Seat.

A journey along the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway is another superb activity to do whilst here, offering a leisurely way to soak up the scenery of the national park, whilst avid ramblers will be delighted by the multitude of walks that are on offer here.

The charming market town of Skipon with its grand 11th century castle is also just a short distance away, whilst the likes of Harrogate and Howarth are slightly further afield but promise to be memorable days out.

For those who don’t want to venture so far there are many lovely local countryside walks within easy reach of the cottage, with Ilkley Moor just 10 minutes’ walk away, with its iconic “Cow and Calf” stones.

As the property is within walking distance of Ilkley train station and bus station as well as all the shops, bars, cafes and restaurants you could need, no car is required.

With all of this and much more to enjoy, secure your stay at Garden Cottage for a superb holiday in Yorkshire.

About the location

ILKLEY

Bolton Abbey 5 miles; Skipton 9 miles.

The old Spa town of Ilkley is the pivotal town of Wharfedale, undoubtedly the most popular of all the Yorkshire Dales. The area offers some of the most spectacular and unspoilt scenery in the land. For the walker it gives unrivalled tramping ground. High up on the moors next to the white-walled cottage of White Wells (where once donkeys carried gout-ridden gentlemen to be doused in the icy-cold moorland spring) visitors will see a carefully landscaped Victorian scene including two semi-artificial lakes and the river Wharfe meandering through the centre of the town. Ilkley still has a Victorian and Edwardian feel to it. Splendid shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés adorn the tree-lined streets. Bettys, without doubt the finest tea shop in Yorkshire, and therefore the world, is situated on The Grove. Lovely parkland, a choice of open air or indoor swimming pools and a family picnic area providing pleasure for all. It is the starting point of the 84 mile-long 'Dales Way' walk, which is breathtakingly beautiful! Nearby Bolton Abbey is one of the region's most scenic areas and the walk along the river to the 'Strid' is a must. Ilkley Moor is the subject of Yorkshire's unofficial anthem “On Ilkla Moor Baht at”.

Please note: From mid-April the main house, which is about 50 feet away
from the Garden Cottage, will be undergoing a loft conversion. Works will
take place during the day only and may involve some limited degree of noise.
The builders will be made aware of times when the Garden Cottage is booked
and will endeavor to minimize any possible disruption. During part of this
time there will be scaffolding which may encroach on the driveway, so
temporarily parking may be limited to the road. A free parking pass will be
provided.
