  • "Ferndale was in a beautiful location and is a lovely property."

Cycling and walking in the area was amazing and Middleham has good pubs and shops. The property would benefit from a downstairs toilet and only one shower was a little limiting. Other than that it was lovely.

  • "Great place and location."

We all had a fabulous time and even the sun came out a few times. Lots of walks, lovely towns and nice and friendly people.

  • "We had a wonderful multi-generation family holiday at Ferndale House."

It offers spacious accommodation, with a lovely, sunny first floor lounge that we particularly enjoyed, and a fabulous garden. The bedrooms are all a good size with high quality bedding which was appreciated. Middleham itself is really special. We loved seeing (and hearing) the race horses being taken out every day up to the gallops. There is a well-stocked shop with pretty much everything you could need, and some good pubs. We enjoyed hide and seek around Middleham castle and Jervaulx Abbey, and the weird and wonderful Forbidden Corner is a must for kids young and old. We also had a fun trip to Lightwater Valley and a very wet and muddy walk up Gunnerside Ghyll. Sadly the weather prevented more hiking but hopefully we will be back to Ferndale soon. Highly recommended.

  • "A really lovely house in a great location for exploring the dales and beyond."

Ferndale House is spacious and well equipped. Plenty of space for a family group to spread out but also to come together around the dining table or in the comfy first floor lounge. In a cold and wet week the house was really warm and welcoming. Parking is straightforward either outside the house or in the square if more than one car. We had a great week and can thoroughly recommend a visit.

  • "We had a lovely weekend break at this well presented cottage."

It has a really nice enclosed garden and summerhouse which will be lovely in the summer. Ideal location for exploring Wensleydale. Would definitely visit again.

About the location

MIDDLEHAM

Leyburn 2.5 miles; Richmond 12 miles.

The attractive Wensleydale town of Middleham is renowned for its history and race horses. Much of the history is bound up with its Norman castle, which dates from 1190 and has a castle keep second in size only to the Tower of London. The horses are a great sight as they make their way to the gallops every morning. The pretty market square is partially cobbled and offers a range of shops, pubs and places to eat. The bustling market town of Leyburn is just a short drive away offering a variety of great shops and pubs, or why not take some time to explore The Forbidden Corner, a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and surprises set amidst 4 acres of grounds, providing a fun day out for all the family? All in all a superb base for exploring Wensleydale and all within easy driving distance of York, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and Heritage Coast.
