  • "Came to Moldy Warp Barn for 4 nights with my Daughter and our 2 dogs."

From the moment I opened the door I felt at home!! Such a wonderful, place. Very cosy and super warm. We loved the charm it has to offer. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the owners- who are across the way but not imposing. Everything seemed to be thought of. I especially liked the fact that as a dog friendly cottage- it was actually dog friendly!!- throws available for furniture- if they went on it (I did take my own though too). The huge enclosed field 30 seconds across the yard was a god send!! Somewhere to let off steam early morning and late at night. The location is great for exploring. We just walked places - which suited us as that was the aim of the getaway. The second floor was our favourite space, quaint and charming and the HUGE bed was bliss!! I didnt want to leave and will certainly be back- thanks for sharing your space :-)

Thank you so much - that was so lovely of you. So thrilled you enjoyed your stay - we genuinely want our guests to be able to relax and enjoy their break away. We look forward to seeing you again Property Owner

The ancient barn was lovely and cool for our stay in July and so cosy and warm for our November stay. We all feel so at home and relaxed when we visit and look forward to another return visit in the future.

It was so lovely to see you all again - and thank you so much for your kind words. Thrilled you had a wonderful weekend. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at this property."

The owners were very friendly and helpful, and the place itself is incredibly charming, spacious and quaint. I can see why people come back. Having said that there were some issues we found frustrating...I was there as a single parent with 4 teenagers/young adults, and the wifi didnt work. We did try to sort it, the owners were helpful, but basically the only internet is via an extension in the farmhouse 15 paces and 2x 2 foot thick walls away. It didnt work, Im sure any parent of offspring can empathise with having four youngsters desperate to get online at night. There is 4G, but they ran out of data on day 2. Basically, the place needs its own wifi. The gas oven was very poor, it took an hour to cook oven chips (I finished them on the hob eventually), and it kept just going out. The TV needs replacing, the picture is pink and a speaker has blown, considering it was autum and we had no wifi, the TV would have been appreciated, but we found it too frustrating. Lastly the place is toasty warm except for the kitchen/dining area which was freezing cold. One of the radiators wasnt working, so it needs additional heating, particularly if you consider we were there in relatively mild autumn conditions, in winter it would be unusable. All in all though, it was great, and I hope the owners consider this feedback not as critisism, but as a way of understanding how to really improve the experience of staying in their lovely Barn :)

Thank you for your feedback and I appreciate you letting us know. I am glad you enjoyed our very beautiful, and unusual property and surrounding area. Firstly to clear up any understanding, the property has its own broadband and it is the highest available in the area through a top supplier. I am very sorry it was unable to support 4 full time teenage gamers! Unfortunately we do not have the ‘ultra top speed’ in our area yet. You did mention this to us on day 2 and we explained that it is a better connection upstairs, as it was easier to access by the provider because of the thickness of the walls downstairs - I think you misunderstood. We also showed you how to put it on your phone, checked the strength and speed and you told us that it was better. You mentioned 4G and unfortunately we cannot do anything about individual phone reception. To list the other issues - unfortunately the oven was full of food where the gas jets were - all sorted now. We live on site and could have easily sorted this for you. To reassure future guests, the oven is always cleaned thoroughly in between bookings. The TV worked perfectly before you went in and does now! I wonder if the gaming device had affected it somehow? Again, we live on site and would have been more than happy to come across to take a look if you had let us know. Lastly the radiator - as soon as I read your review I asked our plumber to come up to check and, thankfully, he says it’s all fine. Both radiators were working well when you arrived. There are two radiators in the dining/ kitchen area and it is usually a warm, comfortable and very popular place to sit and eat. It is such a shame you didn’t mention these issues to us but I am glad you enjoyed your stay. We are very proud of our medieval Moldy Warp Barn and are thrilled when guests enjoy their stay. • "Moldy Warp Barn is an old (very) barn conversion."

We loved the unusual style of the building. The hosts were friendly and the property was spotlessly clean. We enjoyed our stay and visited many places we have had on our list of places to go. I think this property would be wonderful for families with children as it is on a small farm, so there are animals and it is an interesting building to live in. We are in our late 70's / early 80's and found the uneven floors downstairs a little uncomfortable so we are unlikely to visit again. But that is a personal choice - we enjoyed our week and were glad for the experience.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. Moldy Warp certainly does have its quirkiness. Note to future guests - parts of the floor downstairs (not the bedrooms) are stone flags, hand hewn in the 12th Century and are 4’ square and 26” deep! They are remarkably level considering…! I enjoyed listening to your wonderful knowledge on history, it was a pleasure to meet you both. Property Owner

Beautiful, quirky and rustic cottage barn, which is full of charm and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location was brilliant, with so much to do on the doorstep, but some amazing days out within an hour's drive. We visited as a family of four, and our young boys loved the swings available at the property too. The hosts, Dave and Fiona, were lovely, friendly and chatty - with entertaining stories and a clear passion for the barn and local area, and were committed to ensuring we had all we needed and were comfortable. One of our favourite days out was based on a recommendation from Fiona of a little known and little advertised attraction - just fabulous. We will definitely be back - thank you so much!

  • "As a family we wished to stay close to Haworth but also in a secluded spot to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside."

Moldy Warp Barn is perfectly situated on a farm within walking distance or a short car ride from Haworth. A medieval building full of character. And as a childhood reader of Little Grey Rabbit books by Alison Uttley, with Moldy Warp the mole I was very drawn to the holiday home. Katie and Dave are wonderful hosts, who made us feel so welcome, despite their clearly very busy lives, by the end of our stay we felt we'd been staying with friends. Katie offered advise on where to visit, told us the very interesting history of the buildings and introduced us to some of their animals including Mrs Pecky and her chicks, Puddycat and Caris the dove. When we found out she was also an incredibly skilled harpist and we had a grade 1 harpist in our family she very kindly leant us a harp for the duration of our stay. We be extremely happy to visit again.

  • "Don’t bother."

It’s awful and so are the owners. It is nothing like the photos. Out of date and poorly maintained. No natural light in the living area. Four channels on the tv. Overgrown and poorly maintained outside area which is not fit for use. Sykes aren’t much better as they are refusing a refund for an absolute shambles of our only family holiday this year.

Thank you for your feedback - the TV has all the Sky free channels (a lot more than 4!) and guests are welcome to bring a TV ‘stick’. We have two areas to sit and, as we explained at the time, one area had been set aside as a wildlife area for the bees. It was actually quite beautiful and is very important for bees at that time of year as it is the gap between Spring blossoms and summer flowers (“no mow May” but later as you go farther North). The pathways to the swings etc had all been mown to a metre wide. We even offered to mow it for you but after explaining you were very happy with it. There was another area with seating in front of the barn which had beautiful maintained short cut grass. The property has two sitting areas with TVs. One has a huge picture window. Upstairs has the original 14th Century mullion windows. It does have quite a lot of natural light, and indeed sunshine at certain parts of the day. Most guests find it very calming and there are plenty of lights and ‘electric’ candles to add to the atmosphere. I am sorry for the situation you found yourselves in but it was lovely to talk to you whilst you were here. May I take this opportunity to remind guests that we do not allow smoking inside but there is a large porch with seating at the entrance. We welcome discussion of any issues and we are more than happy to try and resolve them as we live on site. We try our best to ensure that guests enjoy their stay in our unusual but very beautiful, quirky property. Ps we now have a large field set aside to enjoy Property Owner

  • "Amazing property and people!"

What an amazing place almost magical, my children were ready to move in! Everything you needed was at the barn, I took tea towels, washing up liquid, sponges and dog bowls etc but it was so well equipped I needn't of bothered. Katie and David have thought of everything! On entering the property on arrival there was a basket on the table with fresh eggs from the farm, biscuits, tea towel, snacks a little welcome note all in a lovely little basket. I have a toddler and was a bit worried about the stairs after reading the reviews but they are fine and beautiful. Each step has large flat grips on them and they were normal size if not bigger than normal and they had a wooden gate at the top which stopped the dogs from getting up and said toddler from falling down, such a relief. Everywhere had blankets if needed my girls loved the sheep ones and an extra quilt for the main bed although it was warm enough we didn't need it. The children loved the playroom and just everything you can imagine was thought of at this barn. It was beautiful and the decor was just perfect for an old barn. I must also add I wasn't kept up by dogs or heard them hourly, they do have dogs but further away from the property and its a working farm in the countryside so you are surrounded by nature and farm. The views are amazing and so much to do right on the doorstep, literally! If you walk out of the barn there is a footpath behind the owners property that takes you across a field over a small road and small footpath again to three chimneys cottage from the film the railway children at the bottom of the hill is the railway line that was used and you can still journey on a steam train if you wanted. Haworth is along the road and home to the bronte sisters and lovely quaint shops. Katie and David are amazing people, i was a bit worried at first being so close to the owners property but they didn't interfere or come over it was i that was popping to see them. Such interesting people and katie showed us her harps and played for us, my autistic daughter never talks but happily talked to katie and fell in love with the harp, will definitely be booking again! Thank you Kate and David for a magical week! X

  • "We booked Moldy Warp Barn because we thought we'd have a dog by this time, unfortunately that didn't work out for us."

So we didn't have a dog to irritate the dog's in the pen which did bark day and night, not continuously but at least hourly.... We left a day early because lack of sleep was driving me nuts... Otherwise Moldy Warp Barn was fine hosts were friendly, my adult grandchildren really enjoyed their chat with the guy about the old car renovation.

Thank you for your feedback and I know from chats with my husband that you and your extended family were really enjoying your stay and meeting up at Moldy Warp Barn. I am sorry you were disturbed by a dog during the night. I was quite baffled by this, especially since a family member had visited the property the week before to talk to our guests, and we’d not heard anything in the farmhouse opposite. Our dogs are trained sheepdogs and as such don’t really bark unless they are disturbed and I have seldom heard them in the night, and we’ve never had any issue other than a couple of weeks ago. The property has been a holiday cottage for 5 years and we’ve always had sheep and sheepdogs. They sleep in kennels at the other side of the farm from the barn. I know you were admiring them from the conversation with my husband. However I have since found out that the cottage at the back of the barn has been looking after a dog for a family member on and off for a few weeks and it was very unsettled. I have had words with them, the dog is back at it’s real home now permanently and all I can do is apologise for a situation that was out of our control. Please always talk to us about any issue as we live on site and we will always try to resolve it. Property Owner

The accommodation is quirky and comfy, with everything you need. We particularly liked chilling out in the large lounge cum bedroom area upstairs, which was very atmospheric with the minstrel style floor gallery above us, the tapestries and drapes, and lamp light. We had the honour to be the last guests to use the current stairs before they are replaced! The barn and local area are full of literary and film history, with wonderful walks on the doorstep. The nights were so quiet, apart from the odd owl hoot! The hosts are lovely and friendly, and Kate definitely deserves recognition for her work as a harpist, with wonderful tales to tell. We hope to return!

  • "If the owner is breeding dogs, and the kennels are directly outside the rental, this is material information."

Dogs barked day and night - meaning we slept very poorly and left early. The upstairs is also VERY dark with hardly any natural light.

Sorry you didn’t enjoy all of your stay. The kennels are well away from the property but your little dog, Monty, had a very inquisitive nature and was constantly exploring and sadly barking at our dogs, setting them off! However this wasn’t that often and certainly not in the night. The dogs are trained sheep dogs, are very sociable and very tolerant of visiting dogs as long as they don’t invade their space. I am so glad your children enjoyed cuddling the puppy and playing in the park. The property is over 1000 years old and as such has small mullion windows upstairs. The minstrels gallery benefits from a modern velux so there is indeed quite a lot of natural daylight and sunlight. Most people find the atmosphere beautiful and calming. Property Owner

It was great to have parking for two cars and some good dog-walking routes on the doorstep. Due to the steep open-tread stairs it would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues (or who is bothered by heights!) and it meant that our labrador was confined to the ground floor. But on the whole, a fantastic place to visit.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had a good holiday. The stairs are actually just standard so not extra steep or anything but are open tread at the moment. The property is over 1000 years old so it has taken a lot of planning but we are putting in another staircase in a couple of weeks! It will have a half landing and will not have open tread ! We desperately searched for somewhere else to spend our three night break. Fortunately, we found somewhere last minute with the help of Abby at Sykes. Moody Warp Barn was just that, Moldy. Downstairs was cold and damp and the sparse comforts were either set or damp. The bedrooms smelled of damp and the sheets felt damp. The stairs to the lounge were treacherous and that should be emphasised y the owner. My dogs refused to climb them and I, at 77 found them daunting. The lounge was dark and dreary. Clearly, the photographs of Moldy Warp Barn on Sykes website have been photo shopped because in no way whatsoever is it that bright and airy. It was a huge disappointment for my sister and I.

. it’s a unique and quirky building and just absolutely amazing.. it’s peaceful and tranquil and has a wonderful air of calm about it… we were blessed with the best weather for the week and the barn was a welcome from the hot heat outside the barn stayed lovely and cool while the weather was boiling … but at night the barn held the temperature well due the building being old (very old actually) it’s a beautiful build.. we had the most amazing time.. the barn has a small enclosed garden that the doggies loved, it also had its own private park that the kids took full advantage of during the evening because we spent most day out doing things… there was load to do and the owners Katie and Dave where amazing and so helpful the whole time, they where a fountain of knowledge about the area and things to do and we took every opportunity to do all the things they suggested, from Hebden bridge, eureka centre, piece museum and my favourite was definitely the steam train ride from Oxenhope various destinations. We would highly recommend this as a day trip .. Katie and Dave made the stay so magical for the kids they got to see puppies and dove babies and a sheep being sheared and they have memories that will last them a lifetime…. The barn has everything you could need to live for a week or two… it was comfortable the beds where amazingly comfortable … we had read the reviews about the stairs and although it’s probably not ideal for people with low mobility there are two down stairs bedrooms making it accessible for everyone I think… it’s been the best week we have had for a very long time, the area is amazing the barn was spectacular and the owners are friendly and helpful… they never stopped working the whole time we were there they are hard workers and still found time to advise us when we needed them to… shops are super close and there is nothing you can’t find it has everything… if you’re considering a nice break away we would recommend mouldy barn it was fantastic… getting out in the Yorkshire air is exactly what we needed… thanks both for the best stay.. we hope to return again.. xx

We were sad to leave , so would definitely go back to stay again .

Thank you. We look forward to seeing you all again. Property Owner

Host, Katie, made us feel very welcome and shared some interesting local history. We really enjoyed our stay and found Moldy Warp (relates to moles!) quirky and homely. Good base for lots of interesting and lovely places to visit. Muddy because of weather, bring your wellies or walking shoes. It is a working farm. Many thanks to Katie and Dave for your hospitality, Sue, Steve and family x

  • "My wife and daughter and my dog and I had 5 nights at Moldy Warp Barn in the run up to Halloween 2021."

We were looking for a rustic getaway, walks on the moors, dramatic scenery and a warm comfy home for family evening relaxation. Moldy Warp Barn offers all of this with tons of charm thrown in for good measure. Our hosts were friendly and helpful with a few interesting tales to tell of the local area and greeted us with local honey, wine and Yorkshire Parkin. The barn itself has all the modern conveniences we needed including a solid Wi-Fi connection. Thick walls and flagstone floors, steep staircases, beamed ceilings and wood panelling all added to the sense of authentic, rural charm. Our days were spent exploring the world of the Bronte sisters, seeking out dramatic waterfalls or pottering through the beautiful local towns with great local pubs. Our evenings playing board games, cards or even watching a little TV in the grand high-beamed living room. If you like walking, adventure, history and culture, this hideaway in the Yorkshire Dales is a wonderful retreat any time of the year.

Our children have absolutely fallen in love with the experience Mouldy Warp Barn provides. Sitting within yards of a working small farm. Katie and Dave are tremendously kind and caring hosts. They are full of local knowledge with fabulous suggestions about all sorts of activities. They spent hours entertaining us with the going ons around the farm. Dogs, goats, sheep, geese. There are few things that can beat watching a sheep dog round up sheep. With lots of walks from the door with beautiful views everywhere you look. The barn is simply delightful, with character that only 1000 years can mould. The games room provided a cozy escape for our children and a bit of peace for us! We cannot speak highly enough of our amazing holidays there. We cannot wait for our next visit!

  • "This property was not listed with mobility issues as we were unable to access ..."

This property was not listed with mobility issues as we were unable to access 1st floor as stairs/ladder did not have top step to floor level, cannot see how this passed building regulations or your inspection, my wife has Rhuematoid and Osteo Arthritis also two knee replacements and I have mobility issues, We had to stay downstairs where there was no comfort just a table and hard chairs, the view from the front window was awful and the so called garden was just a strip of grass and shingle with a sign that said do not let your dogs foul on here so where are they supposed to go also it was accessed from outside the property, overall very poor, The towels were hard and rough it also advertised Sky tv but there was none only out of date receivers with no viewing card, we left on the Monday after two days and went home my daughter stayed with her family for the rest of the holiday, they had no issues with access

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are so sorry to hear encountered difficulties going upstairs. We do have several images of the stairs within the property on the website and an additional note to advise to take care on the open tread stairs. The property is over 1000 years old and we have tried to preserve this as much as possible. We advise that you do not allow your dog to foul on the grass outside the property as children play here. The property does include Sky TV, however it is not the full package so you do not have access to sky sports for example. Had we been made of these issues at the time of your stay, we would have looked to rectify these for you to make your stay more comfortable. Take care and Stay Safe! Property Owner

About the location

HAWORTH

Skipton 13 miles; Hebden Bridge 8 miles.

The small village of Haworth was home to the famous Bronte sisters, who were inspired by the surrounding moorland to pen their novels, which have become classics of English Literature. Haworth is a village that time almost forgot, with its myriad of curiosity and antique shops, alleyways and cobbled streets creating a wonderful period atmosphere, all set against a framing backdrop of countryside famously described in the novel Wuthering Heights as wild, rugged and barren. Nearby, the famous Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, an authentic steam railway brought to prominence in the film The Railway Children, provides a lovely day out with a regular service to the old village of Oxenhope. The area abounds with popular places to visit, including the Bronte Parsonage Museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and the National Railway Museum in York. The market town of Skipton, often fondly regarded as the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is just a short drive away, and also within reach are elegant Harrogate and vibrant Leeds and Manchester.
