  • "Had a great stay at The Bridge Apartment, Masham."

Close enough to all the amenities of The Village and some great places to eat. Thirsk & Ripon are just a short drive away. The Apartment had everything we needed and was spacious comfy. Would certainly consider a return in the future. Only setback was the trek to empty the rubbish behind The Cottages.

Sky does nt work restricted what you can watch on tv. cleaner needs to look up as cobwebs every where. Called the owner three times when we arrived did nt answer and never called back. Wanted to know where we could park as was nt sure. We sorted this ourselves after asking in the white bear pub. Only a note when we entered properly to say we could park there.

  • "Very disappointed."

Only there 10 minutes. Could not stay. Initial impressions were poor, with a ripped net curtain at the window and a front door which needs a good wash. It certainly didn't look like the the photo. No tourist board plaque on the wall now. On opening the door there was a broken make up brush on the floor and the smell of dogs was overwhelming.....and we are dog lovers. The soft furnishings require shampooing, and a deep clean. My husband who has slight asthma very quickly became wheezy, despite opening wide all of the windows and door. I went to make a cup of tea before we left, but filling the kettle at the sink, I found both the sink and drainer to be dirty. The fridge was also dirty, particularly the door seal which contained lots of food crumbs etc, and freezer box door, (several unidentified dribbles of food down it) also it badly needs defrosting.  The interior of the microwave was also dirty, with multiple old food splashes. This property falls well below what we usually expect from Sykes Cottages.

Had to clean the fridge and oven before using. Tray in oven was filthy also. Very noisy from above. Up until around 2.30am and again from around 7. Was freezing on arrival. Took a couple of days to heat through. However!! Very comfy. Living room and bedroom very nice. Good bathroom but dripping shower and water went hot and cold whilst using. Bed was not comfortable and pillows need to be replaced, very small shower with damaged door and the cooker was very old by the looks of it. There is a kitchen bin inside but no dustbin or recycling boxes outside to put rubbish in when full, apparently down a hill through a gate behind the apartment building there was somewhere to put rubbish……. couldn’t find it and found it unacceptable for us to do both being in or 70s. Been visiting Masham for 40 years and this was the worst place we’ve stayed at. Booked for 2 weeks but left middle of second week due to becoming ill and desperate to get home to my own bed to rest and recover.

Has everything you need although there were a couple of frying pans which could do with binning as didn’t look clean enough to use . We had a couple of nights where noise from the upstairs flat was annoying ,don’t know wether it was someone working locally in hospitality as they came in after closing time and were banging about a lot and had tv on till 2.30 in morning then their alarm was going off at 5.45 next morning . Might be nice to have a couple of fold up chairs to sit outside when the weather is lovely as was the case last week ,but overall it’s in an ideal spot ,is clean and tidy and we will book again

Cottage is snug but a good size for 2 people and bathroom is nice, clean and shower works fine. We didnt use the kitchen really as only there a couple of days so ate out. Comfort wise, the sofa is ok but small to relax on. The bed is not very comfortable either, maybe time for a new mattress? Only other problem is there are no facilities to clean your dog after a long walk out. Ours is long haired and it was very hard to clean his hair after a rainy and muddy walk and as living room and kitchen are open plan, nowhere to keep him until he dried.

  • "The property is excellently positioned for Washam and the White Bear pub/hotel."

Other pubs are available just a short distance. As a dog lover, I appreciated the local walks from one to three hours. My comments on the property itself are as follows: *it would be a good idea to let users know that they can use the Brewery car park before they get to the flat, *the ground outside the front door is littered with cigarette buts. There was no broom to deal with this, *the central heating is very efficient and the flat is warm and cosy, *the kitchen area was well equipped, but the cutlery and crockery were stained and generally in need of a good clean, which we did, *the carpets were deeply covered in dog hair, which was collecting in matted lumps. We gave the place a thoroughly good vacuum throughout, *previous users had complained about the mattress, we don't believe that anything has been done about it. I was OK, but my husband found it uncomfortable, *previous users had complained about the shower - the drain is continually blocked so that it is necessary to use the plunger (provided) but you still have to keep turning the shower off to let the water flow away. The tray is very shallow and there is a danger of it flooding the bathroom if you don't keep an eye on it, *it would be useful to have instructions on how to use the TV, *the instruction for dealing with the rubbish was inaccurate, we could not find any bins and left it in the flat. Obviously, previous users had not left the property as they would like to find it - but maybe that's how they live at home. We didn't expect to have to clean it when we unpacked our stuff. The changeover cleaning needs more attention to detail. We left it as we would have liked to have found it. It's such a shame that I have to make these complaints. It's an excellent flat for two people and a dog and we would go back.

.. It is not a "ground floor" flat, it is more like a basement flat. Some of the steps leading down to the flat are coming loose and some are broken. The flat does not have a garden (listed as one of the amenities on your website). The shower in the flat needs some attention. The sealant around the tray needs replacing and the shower rail also needs fixing. The flat does have good equipment in the kitchen and plenty of entertainment. Easy to park nearby. To be honest there is nothing really wrong with the apartment except that it is a bit old fashioned with a feel of the 1980’s. That in itself is not an issue - it’s just that the decor and styling don’t match up to the cost of the rental. You’d expect a higher spec for the price.

The hotel where we supposed to pick the keys up from had given them out to another couple who had booked it for the weekend after . When i went to pick the keys up from the hotel the staff told me they had already given them out . As we arrived at 4pm and the other couple had got there at 3pm they were already unpacked and sat in the cottage. We then had to knock on the door and the other couple realised it was their mistake . We then had to wait an hour and a half to get in the cottage we had rented from 3pm while they packed back up again . The owner was informed by the other couple that it was their mistake , but never called or offered any extra cleaning. Given the current climate with covid 19 we then had to clean the cottage ourselves on arrival which took another hour . This was not the relaxing break we imagined .

  • "1. First impressions weren't good."

Your guide refers to 'off road parking' but doesn't say where this is (other guests have mentioned this previously). We couldn't find it so parked in the pub car park. There was a broken step leading down to the property, the window and front door were both filthy. The kitchen flooring is very badly laid and some of the planks move, there are also gaps in the flooring. 2. During the stay. Your guide says the property has been 'renovated to a good standard'. I disagree, it looks very tired and could do with a decent makeover. All the furnishings and fittings look tired and some look quite shabby (settee and carpets e.g.); the bed is also very uncomfortable (again mentioned by previous guests). Your guide also refers to a 'front seating area'. We couldn't find this either - unless you mean the communal bench opposite the pub car park. The kitchen area wasn't particularly clean (disappointing given the current situation with COVID-19) and the bin outside hadn't been emptied so we had nowhere to put our rubbish (hence not emptying the kitchen bin when we left). the property would benefit from having WiFi installed, especially as the mobile signal is very poor in the apartment. It must be said the shower was very good. 3. The overall location is great, North Yorkshire is beautiful and has a great deal to offer and there were some great dog walks nearby too. Masham itself is a delight with some great pubs and fantastic shops selling local produce. The White Bear Inn (right next door) is also highly recommended and the local Co-op is really handy and well stocked.

It is a lovely area for walking or cycling and very dog friendly. We visited Ripon, Pateley Bridge and Leyburn during our stay ,there is so much to see and do in the area, we will definitely be back next year!
