  • "Very nice property, clean and comfortable with everything you needed on arrival to start your holiday (tea, coffee, milk sachets etc."

). The welcome biscuit pack was a nice touch. Would have given it 5 stars but for the lack of a cupboard or shelving in ensuite, also no curtain at the patio doors.

  • "Property in a lovely quiet area, beautiful part of the country."

Several reasons we would not return though. Generally the cleanliness was not up to standard, difficult to see out of the windows due to grime, terrible smell when we entered. Heating not accessible to guests, hot water not plentiful.

Very clean and kitchen was well equipped. Comfy beds too. Biscuits, coffee machine and capsules were nice extras. Location was great for walking but no shops near by and local pub was not serving food when we got there so you may want to stock up before arriving. Shops can be found about 20/25 min drive away.

Very spacious with modern decor and large ,comfortable beds. You are on the top of a hill with stunning countryside.Definitely need a car and probably 4wd in winter. There is a lovely pub 2 minutes walk away but you need to come well stocked up as the nearest shop is a good twenty minutes drive. We had a great time with our little dog and will definitely return.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at the cottage, very homely, clean with a well equipped kitchen."

Lots of local information provided ref to eating out, walks & sightseeing. The only small comment to make would be to have a unit in the largest double bedroom were you could leave hairbrushes, make up etc on as I had to use a small chair or the floor. Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.

  • "For us Wising Gill is ideal well appointed modern interior reasonably well equipped plenty of space for everyone in our party."

Families with young children need to exercise caution during the day given the number of quad’s and motorcycles making use of the right of way over the moor. However the evenings are lovely and quiet and no real light pollution! Also ideally suited for the staggered walk back from the Crown Hotel .

One thing - when I have stayed in Sykes cottages before there is usually Milk, Tea, sugar just to get you over the first few hours- this cottage was miles away from a shop … and although there was wine, coffee and biscuits I think milk and tea would have been lovely …

  • "The property was presented to a very high standard."

Everything was immaculate, and everything we needed was provided. There was a welcoming bottle of wine and packet of biscuits which was nice. The beds and sofas were comfortable. There was nothing to find fault with. As it was October we didn't use the outside space; the central heating system was very efficient and we were plenty warm enough. The local pub was so convenient, very friendly and welcoming and good wholesome food. All in all we had a lovely holiday.

  • "Overall was very happy with our stay."

Cottage was very nicely appointed. Only gripes would be that we had no washing powder / detergent for the washing machine and a single dishwasher tablet. No washing up liquid either.....would have thought if supplying those appliances would have been some even if a limited amount? No shower / bath toiletries either. We did have a power cut on our first night (approx 6hrs) but assumed is a norm for the location speaking to some locals. Be prepared to drive a lot as to get anywhere was minimum half hour or further for the likes of Harrogate and bigget towns / cities

  • "Super place to spend a week."

Great views and walks around you. Nice pub in the village. BUT it misses out on a 5 star because your dog can still escape through the gate as stated before. It’s not therefore enclosed. Also as stated before your neighbours can see in through the patio door. Both are a cheap easy fix. That said the property is new and spot on. I managed to keep my dog in by using the outdoor furniture. So would go back for sure

  • "Enjoyed a very pleasant week at Wising Gill House."

Comfy beds and sofas and decorated to a high standard throughout. Although the situation and scenery were beautiful, there are no shops nearby for basics which didn’t prove a problem for us but may do for other guests. Also the gate to the property needs some wire netting across the bottom as it leads straight onto the road and isn’t suitable for letting dogs out - only when supervised.

The cottage is great. It's clean and cozy with everything you could need for a weekend or longer away. The parking was enough for 2 cars and the location generally very quite at the farthest reach of the small village of Middlesmoor which has a great pub and walks from the door.

Although on a road the house is quiet and peaceful. All bedrooms were very comfortable. The house is spacious and well equipped. The kitchen has quality equipment and cleaning products. We enjoyed meals at the pub the staff were friendly. We visited Pately Bridge, Grassington, Fountains Abbey, the Hymalayan Sculpture Garden and walks around a few of the local reservoirs. Thrtr was an issue following heavy rain which the owner sorted out straightaway. If you take a dog the back garden is enclosed but as there is a gate dogs could escape so cannot be let out alone. We had a lovely stay and would recommend this cottage.

  • "Lovely property, couldn't fault it at all."

Would recommend to anyone wishing to holiday in rural North Yorkshire. The pub in village was also great, food served daily & enclosed beer garden if you have dogs. Two very minor issues, couldn't find any instructions for the hob (I'm not used to modern controls ) & it could say in visitor book that the water booster is in the cupboard. We spent ages looking in the utility room for it near the tank, haha

  • "The house was clean and comfortable with all we needed for our stay in terms of entertainment."

The only downside would be the view of the back garden as it's still unlandscaped but understandable as the house has just been finished being built. If I am being picky I would have liked a mat for shoe wiping near the patio doors and blinds up for privacy from next door, also the side gate requires netting over the bottom half to stop small dogs escaping. There was plenty of walks from the door but some walks due to the terrain and incline may not be suitable for some as Middlesmoor is at the top of a steep hill. Overall along with the friendliness of the locals we had a good time and will be booking again in the future.

Thanks for your feedback and the points you raise will be looked at, thanks also for being great guests and looking after our cottage while you stayed. Property Owner

This is an ideal dwelling for a large family or group of friends seeking the great outdoors and a quieter retreat from the hustle and bustle.

Parking in the off-road parking spaces, you are greeted by the traditional exterior of the stone wall cottage in a remote area surrounded by peaceful countryside.

However, Wising Gill House offers a stunning, contemporary interior where you will find fantastic amenities to make your stay a comfortable one; a stylish, open-plan living space is the heart of the cottage, where you and your guests can host dinner around the dining table for six, make use of the well-equipped kitchen to rustle up a hearty, pre-hike breakfast, and collapse on the sofas in the evening to reflect on the day's adventures.

A neighbouring snug is an extra space to unwind, with more inviting sofas and a Smart TV for evening entertainment.

Find the washing machine and tumble dryer to chuck in muddy clothes in the utility, whilst a handy ground-floor cloakroom has a basin, heated towel rail and WC.

Heading upstairs, Wising Gill House offers fabulous views across the rolling valley from three minimal, smartly furnished bedrooms and a bathroom.

A king-size bedroom has a convenient en-suite shower room, alongside a double, a twin and a spacious bathroom, where you can warm your towel on the heated towel rail whilst you rinse off the day or soak in the tub.

Take time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings on the rear, enclosed patio, where you can sit quietly with your morning coffee, or gather the group for an evening drink on the outdoor seating under the stars.

In Middlesmoor you will find more breath-taking, panoramic views from this elevated position overlooking the countryside, with plenty of walking routes, as well as a traditional pub for delicious dinners, whilst shops to stock up the kitchen are a short journey down the hill in Lofthouse.

For a livelier market town, head south to Pateley Bridge in the centre of Nidderdale with an idyllic high street, where you can discover local history at the Nidderdale Museum, dine at the lovely riverside tea room, or visit The Oldest Sweet Shop in the World, built in 1616.

The fascinating remains of the medieval Fountains Abbey are a short journey east and well-worth a visit, surrounded by 18th-century gardens to explore and stunning scenic views.

Journey south west to Grassington for a perfect base before heading off into the Yorkshire Dales, with a cobbled market square for shops and eateries, the picturesque Linton Falls along the River Wharfe, and the fascinating Folk Museum full of local culture.

Harrogate sits a little further south and is a picturesque town home to a golf club, the pretty Valley Gardens ideal for picnics in the sunshine, or catch a performance at one of Harrogate's historic theatres.

For a picture-perfect escape to the Yorkshire Dales, Wising Gill House is a wonderful base to return to and enjoy time with loved ones.
