  • "We were at the cottage late October."

The area was quiet and had a small amount of pretty cottages. The cottage was warm so we didn't use the log burner. The kitchen had all the usual cooking utensils. We loved our stay and hope to go back again next year. The only thing that was bothering us was that the knives! They were very blunt for chopping.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Barn cottage and look forward to welcoming you back in the future! The knives have been replaced with a new set. Property Owner

  • "Barn cottage is set in a beautiful location."

Rural, quiet but not isolated. Good for local walks and exploring the Dales. Also good for trips to Harrogate, York and Leeds. The cottage is comfortable, quite spacious and has lots of windows. This makes it very suitable for staying in autumn or winter too. It’s also good for watching wildlife. Even a barn owl visited us.

Wonderful peaceful location, but within easy reach of the many attractions of the Yorkshire Dales. The cottage was comfortable, spotlessly clean and well equipped. We particularly liked the window seat and the pretty secluded garden. The owners had thoughtfully provided a welcome pack which not only gave information about the area, but also how the appliances worked which was useful. Definitely recommend Barn Cottage and hope to visit again.

Loved the window seat in the lounge and position of dining table, both giving great views over the valley. Cottage nice and warm on arrival, much appreciated as weather was cold. Kitchen adequate but Rayburn (not in use) takes up a lot of room making exit by back door tight. Useful boot room at rear entrance.

  • "This is a very nice cottage in lots of aspects ."

It was in a lovely quiet location with ample room for parking . The beds were comfortable and it was very clean . The one room that let it down was the kitchen . The owners had decided not to use the AGA ( don’t really blame them it must be very expensive) but compared to the rest of the cottage which was lovely and warm it made it cold . There is a cooker which was fine and it did warm the kitchen up when in use . I wouldn’t really recommend it for 2 couples as there is no wardrobe space in the second bedroom. There were 2 of us and it was great . There is a fabulous pub just down the road and walks from your door . The kitchen hasn’t really put us off as we had a lovely time and would go back .

It kept its traditional interior with modern facilities, just what we were looking for. The shower was fantastic, the bed extremely comfortable and all rooms were spacious. The location was perfect also. A five minute walk to the nearest pub and signposted walks outside the cottage. The pub serves fantastic food and a variety of beverages. The owner and staff are very friendly and it has an open fire which was a bonus. The cottage is ideally located for beautiful scenic walks and within driving distance of most places of interest. Fantastic 360 degree views from the cottage, just made the whole break relaxing.

A credit to the cleaner. Location perfect, neighbours very friendly with a lovely vibe. Only one problem for us was lack of space to sit outside due to lack of garden space. Maybe if back patio area was cleared from some of the shrubs it would allow more comfort. As it was too many flys and insects mithering you. Beds extremely comfortable with good views from the arched window in the sitting room.

Thanks for your feedback. We have tidied the garden up a bit. The garden is a small Cottage style garden. It has a good sized patio area with an outdoor dining table and seating for four. The rest of the garden is full of shrubs and flowers, is popular with the birds and bees, and does burst into colour in the summer. There is no lawn area. Please see the pictures. Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback, We don't recognise the comments regarding the settees which are in excellent condition and cleaned on each changeover. However, we have doubled checked them. Beautiful location with stunning views across Bishopdale, the cottage has everything you need, whatever the weather. Inside you’ll find really well furnished, well thought out spotlessly clean rooms. The window seat in the living room is perfect for whiling away the time during the day with the focus changing to the wood burner once darkness falls. Upstairs is a big master bedroom with a really comfortable super king size bed, a second bedroom and bathroom. Shops in nearby West Burton and Aysgarth have essentials but with Campbell’s just 7 miles away in Leyburn you aren’t too far away from a great selection of food and drink. The butcher in West Burton has the most amazing, locally reared lamb and definitely worth seeking out. About the location

NEWBIGGIN

Leyburn 7 miles; Hawes 9 miles.

In lower Bishopdale, where the glacial moraine and drumlins cause small undulations in the landscape, the village of Newbiggin nestles close to the valley floor on the south side of the dale. Although Newbiggin means 'New Buildings', the term is relative since here are some of the finest examples of 17th century dwellings in the Dales. This pretty and ancient village in the heart of Wensleydale is situated in truly beautiful countryside, with old stone cottages set out in a long line through a minor road that wends its way through the village. This is a walker's paradise, with wonderful Dales countryside, magnificent views and the small, but spectacular Cauldron Falls still delighting visitors since the days when the great artist, J M W Turner, captured its watery magic. The local pub is set on the outskirts of the village and serves fine ales and excellent homemade cuisine. There is also an excellent range of amenities in the nearby market towns of Hawes and Leyburn.

Property accepts adults only.
