We love the old but clean and comfortable character of this cottage on a tree lined green with just a short safe walk with the dogs into the market town of Thirsk or longer routes via the river. The cottage is very well locate for days out to the mix of attractions in North Yorkshire. Special mention to Helen the owner for her kind attitude when we had problems that delayed our arrival.

What lovely feedback Peter. So glad you were able to stay after all & the sun shone for you. It’ll be lovely to have you back anytime soon Property Owner

  • "The property doesn't quite match the photos on the website as it's starting to look tired, and in need of a refresh."

The tap in the kitchen was continually leaking, and the owner says she was aware of it. Had a parking issue with the neighbours as we weren't aware of the local rules. It was really easily resolved but letting us know beforehand would have saved us causing a problem. Location was great and in fairness the price charged was very reasonable.

Hi Sue thanks for your feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay. As soon as you left the tap was fixed as I was aware of it. We address any issues as they arise and refresh the cottage regularly to keep it upto date and ready to welcome our guests Property Owner

Cosy, clean and everything you could need is there. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and the additional details all really helpful. The comfiest bed ever! As 2 persons and a dog we did not utilise the other bedroom but the property would easily be spacious enough for 4 persons. Looking forward to returning

  • "You expect an old cottage to be quirky and full of character which it is but the cleanliness has let it down."

The cottage has not been properly cleaned for a long time. Upstairs was ok, (although I would have expected the bedding to be ironed) but downstairs needs a really good clean, so much so it takes away the comfort of what could be a lovely cottage. The shower head is a health hazard! We ate out because we didn't feel kitchen equipment had been cleaned properly and what we did use we cleaned first. The kitchen bins were particularly bad. The outside needs a lot of attention and cannot be described as a garden with garden furniture. All in all, the cleanliness, garden and maintenance let It down. It is such a shame as the location is great and the cottage could be a cosy retreat. Also a small carton of milk would be welcome after a long walk from the station

Hi Marilyn thanks for your review, it’s always good to get feedback. I am sorry you feel like this. I shall investigate further especially since all my previous guests have commented on how clean it is. I hope you enjoyed the welcome pack with home made jam and local eggs etc. I was glad to be able to help you with an early check in and booking taxis as part of our care for guests. The garden is separate to the back yard maybe you didn’t find it and it’s a small country garden with flowers and herbs. Property Owner

Myself, wife(both pensioners) and disabled son.It was very nice of Helen to leave us a welcome pack on our arrival. (Lovely jam and free range eggs!)Parking is not a problem, either directly outside the cottage or on the road outside. The cottage is quaint and all the features, and quirkiness, you would expect from a 500 year old building. Some care is needed as a result. The cottage is well equipped with all the present day mod cons available. The location is superb with all amenities close by as well as being a great base to explore further afield. The pub is a few doors away and it`s a 15min. walk to Thirsk centre. Helen is a friendly and kind host without being over intrusive All round a lovely cottage and location and we have already recommended it to our family and friends. We would love to return someday. Beautiful cottage. We aLeo loved our welcome hamper. The only thing that needs improvement would be the baby facilities as the high chair didn’t have a table connection for my son to eat off and the travel cot didn’t have a mattress so we had to use blankets for him to lay on.

20 mins from the moors and 30 mins from york and several other brilliant things to do. i will say that the cottage itself though lovely needed a couple of things replacing or fixing such as the dining table which had a very dodgy leg and some plastering in the second bedroom due to a spot of damp maybe? totally understandable consdering the age of the property but needs to be rectified as my son slept next to it and it did concern me a little. lovely touch of flapjacks, eggs and jam left for us to eat and tea/coffee facilities. beds were super comfy! very clean and tidy. all in all great base to explore north yorkshire.

Thanks for your feedback & glad you loved our cottage. The table leg has been fixed now once you alerted me to it and we have a builder booked to repair the wall. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful part of Yorkshire."

However, I would not recommend it for families with young children as the bathroom is downstairs and the stairs are very steep and uneven due to the age of the cottage and there is no stair gate. The kitchen is very small but well-equipped. Unfortunately, there was a lot of noise from 2 large barking dogs in the attached cottage. Also the twin bedroom was having work done to remedy dampness in the wall right next to the bed. However The beds are very comfortable and the cottage is full of character. We had a great holiday here.

  • "We had such a wonderful stay at Wren’s Nest."

Everything was lovely, and as we were told it would be. We are a family of 4 from inner city London. Our two small children loved the cottage and Thirsk & Sowerby so much, they never wanted to leave it even for day’s out! The location is superb, the cottage is clean, warm & cosy, and the owners were so lovely to check in on us to see how we were getting on. They also welcomed us with a basket of local goodies, which was the sweetest of gestures. There is parking for a small family car directly outside the cottage and the pretty market town of Thirsk is just a 10 minute walk away. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the kitchen is perfectly equipped, the bathroom has everything you need (primarily hot water!) & the sweet garden out the back is a lovely spot for morning tea. The only reason we wouldn’t recommend Wren’s Nest is because we want to keep it a secret! Thank you for such a nice stay. And thank you to Yorkshire for just being so beautiful and full of lovely people.

However one room was not usable due to a significant damp problem and the presence of a dehumidifier which had to be emptied regularly. The furniture was all out of place so drawers etc .again not usable. The shower in the bath was cold to very like warm. Neither the shower nor the stairs were suitable for anyone with any physical difficulties and this should be highlighted.

I am sorry that you feel so disappointed with your stay. I made the mistake of assuming the 2 of you would be in the king bedroom.
