  • "Angel Cottage is a Victorian mid terrace which has been updated and furnished to a good standard."

The theme of angels and hearts is used throughout. The beds are comfortable and the dining room is a great place to congregate in the centre of the property. The kitchen is very well equipped and the private courtyard garden is a real sun catcher all day for relaxing and al fresco dining. As with many older properties the ceilings are high so the stairs are a bit steeper than standard. The owners have thoughtfully provided rails on both sides of the stairwell. The ground floor has gloss tiles or laminated wood floors with rugs. Visitors who are not so steady on their feet need to be careful as the rugs are not held by grippers and there is a slight ramp at the threshold between the hall and dining room. The big plus of this cottage is its proximity to the amenities of Skipton. Rail station just 2 minutes walk as is the entrance to the canal towpath and the lovely Aireville Park. Supermarkets 3 minutes walk and the centre of town and Skipton Castle a 10-15 minute stroll. Less good was the noise from the main road outside which is persistent between 6am and midnight. When the traffic stops a bright security light for the railway comes on until dawn. This particularly affects the Lounge and Bedroom Two. Parking at the rear of the property was a boon as we often found street parking to be unavailable.

Plenty of kitchen equipment (including choice of cafetieres which was greatly appreciated). Beds were very comfortable. Ideally located for walks on the canal and up into Skipton. Close to the supermarket and station. Good seating area in the back however the weather meant we made little use of it. An ideal holiday cottage with a very nice feel.

Despite the road it was actually a quiet location and really convenient for walking into Skipton, either along the road or along the canal path. Will definitely make a return visit and bring some family with us next time as there is plenty of room.

We split it ourselves . Comfy furniture , beds were comfortable, bathroom was nice , lovely bath , shower room was ideal. Kitchen had everything you needed & more. We stayed Easter holiday time and you could always park out the front on the main road , which we had to do because there never seemed to be enough room to park our large vehicle in the private space to the rear of the property. Would recommend & definitely would stay again.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay in Angel Cottage."

Conveniently situated just a short walk along the canal path into the centre of Skipton - which is delightful, and a five minute walk to the railway station, Morrisons supermarket and B&M superstore. But the best thing was the cottage. Everything is provided and more. It's spotlessly clean, very comfortable, has its own parking space at the rear, very tastefully decorated and has a log burner in the living room with plenty of logs to burn. All in all I give the cottage a big 9.5 out of 10.

  • "A well presented holiday cottage, well equipped and with a pleasant, private outside space."

The road outside is very busy and noisy, not too much of a problem when the windows are shut but could be a problem in warmer weather when windows are open. It wasn't a problem for us as we were only a couple staying but I would mention that there isn't a master suite as mentioned in the cottage description. Upstairs there are three good size bedrooms. The "shower room" is literally just a shower in a cupboard across the hall and there is no sink in there so after showering in a very confined space you have to come out into the hall and then go in to the bathroom, also accessed from the hall, to finish getting ready - may be a problem if there are other people in your party. The bathroom is spacious but shower cannot be used so options are limited. The downstairs cloakroom was another confined space that opened directly into the dining room and so not ideal. None of the rooms appeared to have a super king size bed as stated. We did enjoy our stay and appreciated the easy walk into town along the canal towpath and it was an ideal location for exploring further afield.

Plenty of living and bedroom space. Plenty of towels and spare bedding . Televisions in every bedroom and living rooms. The bathroom was a beautiful feature room. The only negative we had, because of our family set up, was the cramped shower facilities and lack of a dryer. The house had excellent access to the canal, railway station and bus stops. 15 minutes walk gets you into the town centre where you have food and drink for every budget. All the pubs we used were staffed by friendly people.

We are frequent users of self catering accommodation and this was one of the best we've ever been in. I read many of the previous reviews and some had unbelievably petty comments, none of the issues mentioned were real issues or affected us in any way, so don't be put off. Maybe the front rooms used to be noisy due to the road and railway opposite, but the acoustic window mentioned certainly sorted that as we had no noise issues at all. We were very comfortable in Angel Cottage and slept well every night. We would certainly book this property again.

  • "Angel Cottage is a pleasant cottage with plenty of character."

The listing didn’t mention how close it is to the railway station although it wasn’t a noise issue overnight at all. The rear access is a bit hairy if you have a large vehicle and it is on a busy road so care is needed when you exit. There was usually a road side space available though, so it wasn’t essential to use the rear access. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped; two out of the three bedroom doors wouldn’t close, and we would have appreciated a wooden spoon in the kitchen. When we arrived we found a bottle of wine on the table, which was a lovely touch. The location was good for us - we know the area very well but it was the first time we had stayed in Skipton. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

  • "The property was well equipped & very comfortable."

It was well cared for and beautifully clean. We thought there were two bathrooms in the property, one with a bath & one with a shower, plus a downstairs wc. There was a downstairs wc. There was a bathroom with a shower over the bath/shower. There was a notice on this shower advising it was for decoration only, not for use. There was a shower cubicle in a separate room, just a shower cubicle, no sink or wc. The property sleeps 6 - one usuable shower between 6 people is a potential problem. As we didn't have more than 4 of us there at once it was manageable. Yes, there is a bath. A beautiful, large, free standing bath that would have taken an age to fill. As all but one of our party are 60 over we tend to shower rather than bathe. There was no QR code in the property on arrival. There was a file on the dining table table with a phone number for a caretaker. I called this number and the caretaker advised she would contact the property owners and provide the QR code as soon as possible. Our stay began on a Saturday, the QR code arrived on Wednesday. Our friends had left (due to an unrelated issue that arose) before it arrived so did not actually check in. Shower & QR code unavailability are where Angel Cottage failed to meet expectations. In every other way it met or exceeded expectation. We had no issues with parking (two cars) or noise. For most of our stay the weather was colder and wetter than wished for so we appreciated that the heating was on. We didn't use the outside space because of the weather. It was an easy, 10 minute walk, either along the road or the canal tow path, to the bottom of Skipton high street and everything the town has to offer. A less than 5 minute walk to the train station, Aireville Park and a large supermarket. It's a bonus not to have to drive everywhere. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider booking Angel Cottage again. We'd just need a rota for the shower if there were 6 of us.

There was quite a bit of noise from the road outside and the railway opposite, but once the window was shut this wasn’t a problem. The other two rooms faced the rear so there was no problem. The kitchen was well equipped, the outdoor very private space perfect and the parking space at the rear was ideal. There was only one thing; we appeared to only have one bath towel per room, unless of course we didn’t find the other ones. All in all a very nice property ideally positioned for the town and the railway station and offering excellent value. Would definitely book again.

  • "If we had known that Angel Cottage was on a noisy main road we would not have booked it."

We left early due to this as we could not relax. The pictures of the back area need updating as the 4 chair table is now in the front garden (by the main road). There are 2 large, locked storage chests on the back patio which reduces the size considerably. Not a problem for us in March. There is a designated parking space at the back of the house which is clearly signed but it was not big enough for our car. So private parking for a small car. The house is very nice inside with lots of storage and nice comfy beds. The photos are a true representation of the inside of the house. Good position for walking down the canal into Skipton and beyond with access very near. Shared garden area scruffy.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for Angel Cottage. Whilst many of our guests enjoy the ambience, I have taken your comment on board and we have arranged for acoustic glass to be fitted to reduce the noise. The back garden has now been cleared to provide as much space as possible. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the location of the property. However as this cottage sleeps 6 we consisted of grandparents and a family, hence had two cars. Parking is not good at this location. You can get in round the back but on the street in front it is near impossible. Also perhaps not clear that there is a busy road and railway line at the front. Maybe the owner could have a word with the owners at No. 20 as we were kept awake for two nights with a man talking loudly on the phone at 2am in the morning (his bedroom would be above the archway at the front). Ended up banging on the wall.

It was very comfortable but teabags would have been useful rather than bottle of wine. On the downside, the parking was not available as someone was parked directly behind the cottage all weekend so we had to park on the road. Also the noise in the front bedroom from the freight yard at 4.00am was quite loud. The most bothersome issue was that when we returned on the Saturday from walking, the TV was on. I would definitely use Sykes Cottages again and would highly recommend. The only criticisms I would make are the key safe was around the back and it was difficult to see as everything was in the dark ,a sensory light would make it easier and parking was a bit hit and miss , it seemed to be a free for all and people parked wherever they wanted which was a bit of a nightmare.
