  • "The property was everything we hoped for and more!"

Every little detail had been thought of. We brought all our usual self-catering essentials for the kitchen but they weren’t needed. The property was so well thought out and spacious too. It was so peaceful we didn’t want to come home. To say it’s on a livestock farm, we didn’t experience any animal noises or smells. We were chatting to another couple who were staying in one of the other properties and they’ve been returning to the farm every year, for years. I hope we get the chance to come back again. Thank you James & Julie for such a fantastic holiday property.

My husband and I took both our Mum’s away for a break. We were all impressed with the quality, comfort and cleanliness of the property. It’s been decorated and maintained at a very high standard. Ed and James were really friendly and my MIL loved meeting the Alpacas with my husband. The property was lovely and warm and welcoming after days out and the location couldn’t be better if you wanted to see everything Yorkshire has to offer. We really recommend the World of James Herriot in Thirsk. Was totally wheelchair friendly and the staff were so knowledgeable. We also visited the Wensleydale Creamery in the Dales and took the Cheesemaking tour which was fab. Whitby is also easy to get to from the property through the North York moors and “Heartbeat” country where you’ll find Goathland aka “Aidensfield” Absolutely fabulous week!

The owners were friendly and helpful. We took many day trips to the local area, notably Helmsley, Thirsk, Redcar, York and Pickering. Sutton Bank was a lovely place for a walk, good cafe and children's play area. The cottage was clean, well equipped and warm. The upstairs shower was difficult to get to the correct temperature but a minor point! The shared utility space was great with refills for toilet roll and kitchen roll. Would highly recommend.

The barn was the cleanest accommodation we have ever stayed in. Beds were extremely comfortable. My Mum struggles with steps so it was great that there's a bedroom on the ground floor as well as a bathroom. The only downside was the crows & the noise they make - but this isn't a reflection of the barn itself or the owners. It's wildlife after all. I'm sure we will be back!

This accommodation with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen lounge was one of cleanest places we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in numerous places. It was immaculate and could not fault it at all. The kitchen was well equipped. Sachets of tea, coffee and sugar were provided together with a bottle of milk and some cleaning products. There were also toiletries in the bathrooms. The owners and staff were great hosts. We loved the Alpacas and seeing the new born lambs. Thirsk is only 4 miles away, a small market town. The farm in Sutton -under-Whitestonecilffe lays at the foot of Sutton Bank Yorkshire moors. There are plenty of walks and places to visit. Better instructions on how to reach the cottage, which is off the beaten track OR signposting from the Main Street would help. Flexibility on leaving time (even if it’s just half an hour ) would be welcomed. Hosts did not reply to request left on answerphone - an indication would have helpful, either ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Guests usually only ask for extra time if needed. Induction frying pans are not the best (poor contact resulting in poor cooking). Takes twice as long to cook a fried breakfast (which is purchasable on the farm). Otherwise a fantastic stay. Ed is an excellent host.
