Inside, find a ground floor toilet, wet room and lowered kitchen facilities for your self-catering stay, plus there’s also a hot tub complete with an access hoist on your private decking area – so you can relax knowing everything’s taken care of. One for the adventurers, Glentress Forest boasts world-class mountain biking alongside picturesque walking trails, horse riding and incredible wildlife watching. With cabins on hillsides, deep in the forest or with sweeping valley views, you’ll find peaceful ponds to wander and ancient ruins to stumble upon.

Head down the valley and, along the twists and turns of the River Tweed, explore picture-perfect villages and a prehistoric valley landscape in a unique spot within the Scottish Uplands. Try proper pubs in Peebles and dive into the local delicacies. Soar the treetops on a Go Ape Adventure, tackle the 7stands mountain biking trails throughout the Tweed Valley Forest Park, or hike the pre-historic Scottish landscapes of the uplands.

Where you’ll be staying

Glentrool, near Newton Stewart in the county of Wigtownshire is often referred to as the Highlands in miniature, and entertains the visitor with its wild beauty and insightful history. Glentrool Visitor Centre is the gateway to the Galloway hills, a wonderful spot, where you can pick up maps and information on the hill ranges. The Merrick, South Scotland's highest mountain at nearly 2,800ft can be climbed from Bruce's Stone. Should you wish to take a break, there is also a small shop and café for a well-deserved rest. The nearby market town of Newton Stewart, famous for its salmon and trout fishing, lies in a superb location between the serene rolling countryside of the Machars to the south and the Galloway Forest Park to the north. The area is steeped in history. The beautiful coastline is a mixture of sandy beaches and rocky shores teeming with birdlife, whilst inland there is superb walking country to be discovered in the Galloway Hills and Forest Park. Sailing, riding and fishing are all available locally and there are plenty of excellent courses to keep the keen golfer busy.
