Places to Visit near Helvellyn
This isolated setting benefits from the wonderful Helvellyn mountain, popular for winter climbing. If you're feeling adventurous, take some camping gear and spend a night near the Red Tarn, offering some of the most magnificent views of Striding Edge and the Helvellyn summit itself. There is a village store and post office in the nearby village of Patterdale for the essentials, also boasting a local pub for refreshments. A few miles drive away is the thriving market town of Keswick, hosting a number of historical sites. Castlerigg Stone Circle is nearby, dating back to the Late Neolithic period. William Wordworth's former home of Dove Cottage is also within driving distance and is a must-see during your trip.
